^^ not everything is a castle here in Germany because we would use different words for different styles in which they were builded... Here in Germany we would differ between eine Burg and ein Schloss but in English both words get only translated as castle 🙄 and then we would also have the word Palast that would mean palace 🤷

There are some beautiful parts of Germany, but in general, as a German I feel most of our landscapes are really boring compared to the breathtaking landscapes on other continents. Not only did German-speaking Prussian lands once extends as far east as Königsberg/Kaliningrad all along the Baltic Sea and the Danube river, but those are no longer part of today's Germany. And most of the country and its forests have been extensively used and moulded by agriculture and forestry since Roman times. There's, like, one small "Urwald" (primeval forest) left and its under nature protection. And our North Sea coast with its small islands and the Baltic Sea coast are not as majestic as i.e. the French Bretonic coast or the Atlantic coast.

Some cities and towns still have buildings in use that are actually more than 800 years old and I don't mean palaces and castles but buildings that were and are hostels, pubs etc. Unfortunately, in the 19th century, a large part of the old buildings in my native town fell victim to a fire.

Everywhere you go, you’ll encounter castles in Germany as almost every city has at least one castle somewhere. Some are rather new (200-300 years old) while others are over a 1000 years old, like for example the castle in my city which was build around 800 AD in order to withstand the attacks of the vikings. 😄 And concerning the islands: Germany has 77 islands. The biggest island of Germany is Rügen in the Baltic Sea. The biggest German island in the North Sea is Sylt. 😄

The war didn't destroy as much as we think. After war, 80% of industry was still in good shape. That's why (west) Germany was able to produce again really fast. Some towns and areas were really blown away. That' s right. Ruhrgebiet, Hamburg, Dresden, Berlin, Frankfurt, Nürnberg and some others really got full package. But many parts of the land were still ok. Also the rebuilt was really successful. Many "concrete-sins" from the 60s are corrected meanwhile. And look at Dresden, as sample. Dresden is a real treasure today :)

Hey my friend. I was born in Germany and grew up there since 1981. One of the reasons why we have so many castles and similar fortifications is because of our history. The Germany of today was preceded by a period of time known as the Middle Ages that was characterized by noble families, their possessions and the people who lived there. During the so-called feudalism, those people were just as much property of the sovereigns as the land on which they lived. The central point was usually the castle of the respective nobleman. A castle that was both a symbol of his power and the place where he lived. There were many noble families and the number of castles was correspondingly large. A few could even afford to own more than one castle. The castles that can be seen in Germany today date back to this early historical period.

4:15 It depends. What is a castle to you? The estimation for castles originally used as fortification or (in the broadest sense) military buildings is about 25,000 - that includes some ruins, but not palaces built for representative or governmental purposes (except for some (re)built in the 19th century in "medieval" romantic style like Burg Hohenzollern (1:29) or Schloss Neuschwanstein (1:04) and some others) or e.g. abbeys which were repurposed in the 19th century as palaces, army barracks or infirmaries or e.g. municipal fortifications.

@@giobozzde Do it. With a little plan. Comparing to US, Germany is small. But everything is much much closer together. So there is a LOT so see. Germany has many nice and cool places. But, as in every country, there are also some (rare) spots not so nice as in the video :) If you make a plan before, it will be a stunning experience. Hamburg is a must. If you'll ever need a guide for Hamburg, fell free to contact me ;)

I hope you will enjoy our country. We do have a lot to offer even at about half the former size. You will meet all kinds of people here, Germans and foreigners. It’s a very mixed experience in both temperament, regional and international diversity. We would be happy to have you.

I'm pretty sure the island was "Baltrum" my favorite place on earth. It's tiny and there are no cars (besides firetrucks and an ambulance). It's the best place to recharge.

The wonderful thing is, this video goes through all major cities and regions of Germany one after another, showing nothing twice! When I look out my living room window right now I see one of the prominent scenes from this video from the exact same perspective live.

I think the reason is the much longer history of germany. The most experts are shure, that the history of germany is longer than 2000 Jears. In this time they had a lot of wars and many different peoples. And this you will find also today with the castles and the diffrent accents and dialects and architectures. Greetings 🙂

Hallo Mein Freund I just landed on your page by luck excuse my bad english But while I was watching the video about my country, im a german where I was born where I grew up as a child where I got married where I had children tears came to my eyes and I cried We Germans live in such a beautiful country with such an incredible history and it occurred to me that today's generation doesn't really appreciate all that I hope this generation doesn't gamble away what our parents have left behind The video has a different perspective when you see it through your eyes So many thanks for that

Beautiful video, even if the music is laying it on a little too epic. Listen Bud, if you come to Germany and decide to go see Nürnberg (Nuremberg), then I will give you a free of charge tour guide of the city, including the Castle and the crazy weapons museum inside, the dungeons and torture chambers, the cellar network that went all the way from the castle to a neighbouring town called Fürth, the Nazi party rallying grounds where Hitler held one of his famous speeches, and much more as best as time allows. Oh, and in case you want to speed things up, the Autobahn will be an experience for you 😉

Castles were mainly built in the Middle Ages which is roughly from 500 - 1500 BC. So it makes sense they aren’t a part of American US culture as the Native Americans in what’s now the USA were mostly nomadic as far as I know. There’s the Inca’s and such in South American that have ancient pyramids and such.
