I've had numerous Style PS and PS4s over the years and I think the longest that a scissors spring lasted was about 6 months of infrequent use. I still like and carry them with the broken spring because most of my scissors use can be accomplished without a spring. But yeah it is frustrating as hell that a large manufacturer hasn't been able to fix this problem in well over a decade. Never knew about the bit adapter for the Style, very cool, thanks.

Wow, that's such a short time for them to break. I was surprised when Dominic said his broke when just sitting there on a desk top. It's crazy to me with such a well respected brand.

I gave up on the scissors, took the knife out of an old CS and put it in my PS. More times than not lately, I find myself reaching for my Gerber dime, working in a retail environment it’s nice to have a knife and albeit not the best but functional scissors and an amazing package opener ( I use it every single day!)

That's what made me fall in love with the minichamp working retail over the last 15 years. You can use the cut and pick to open stuff, you have two blades to use, a backup pen for when you inevitably lose your pen and a useful screwdriver with the Philips combo tool. Plus the ever reliable and capable victorinox scissors, i pretty much never carry a multitool if it doesn't have scissors and any of the tools I have tried never really compare to the victorinox ones for me.

Totally agree with you. I had the same thing happen to the spring on my Gerber Dime scissors. It was surprisingly the most used tool I used on the Dime. It is the poor heat treatment and when closed there is some pressure applied to the spring causing it to break. At this point, it comes down to poor quality control and or the lack of doing anything about it. Great points👍! Kudos from NYC🗽.

Ever notice the shitty scissors on the original line of Swiss Army Knives? The Wenger Line was folded into the Victorinox Line, but retained some of the items in line. Only those knives have decent small scissors. See the Evolution Series 14, S14, S17, S18, S23, S557, and a few more. I am partial to the S14 & the S557. But the scissors of the Leather Micra keychain multitool.

This why im always a victorinox fan, for quality and fair pricing. Plus i rarely use pliers and when i do need them, victorinox small pliers get the job done for me. Most of my tools is victorinox because they're very dependable and never broke one in proper use. Though i like supporting American business, swiss and european made products are phenomenal in both value and quality. The only leatherman i have is oht which isnt bad at all and the wingman where i was kinda disappointed with the scissor performance though not bad either, just the price gets me when theres others that are cheaper with scissors that outperform

Yeah! It’s an on going problem! One would think that it would be a simple fix that could have been implemented years ago. I have SAKs that are almost thirty years old and they work great! No issues! Leatherman has had a lot of distractions (lost talent, shrinking margins, COVID, labor issues, side projects, new competition, ….., etc) over the last five years! They really need to get back to basics, buckle down, and design some new great products! Hopefully, their doing this! A little bit more communication from the company would be a great start!

Leatherman just can't seem to do scissors really well. With very very few exceptions. As you mentioned, Victorinox does it better. They keep it simple. But the crazy thing is Victorinox stuff are super sturdy. I saw a person trying to mod a Victorinox scissor into a Wave and all the drills weren't strong enough to cut into the metal cleanly so it's surprisingly sturdy stuff. Great ideas and thoughts all around MaxlevelEDC! :D Really love your channel and have learned so much from you! :P

On my third one and putting in the warranty order for replacement once again… I love this tool as my daily driver and never even notice it on my belt loop, but SO SICK of this. Update 4/28/24, scissor spring just broke again for the 4th time and they are never being used when it brakes. Done with Leatherman. Sending it back for its final repair and then posting it on EBay to pay for its non- Leatherman replacement.

Might be possible to replace the Style PS' scissors with the one found on a Victorinox 58mm. Just placed them side by side and the dimensions seem te add up (with, length and handle/cutting edge ratio) don't know about the pivot point though. Would be my bladeless pick with best of both worlds, essentially a Ramble (EDC and personal favourite) with pliers sans knifeblade.

I carried a Style PS for 10+ years until I broke the pliers on a relatively mundane task. I quickly bought another, but never again trusted the pliers. I now EDC the Knipex tiny Cobra (87-100) and the Klein scissors (102) in a leather sheath, and that combo is HEAPS better than the scissors and pliers of the Style PS.

Mine is just now somewhere between Spain (where I live) and Germany, where they send them for repair. I bought it on Xmas eve, and exactly the same way, found the little metal in the floor, when the tool was laying over the table . So as you said, you pay 40 something bucks, and that's already an expensive tool, but if you need to factor in adding 10 to 15 more every year or 6 months, then it becomes a very very expensive tool. Luckily I played dumb and brought it to the store so they take care of the sending to Germany. Anyway, I was really fed-up because i love the tool. I don't understand why wouldn't they send a screwdriver and the piece for people who want to fix it themselves (or not even the screwdriver) I am sure it would be cheaper for them. It doesn't look like a very complex thing to fix when having the new piece. And then, what does it mean when people say that it is a poor heat treatment? Is that something that they are aware and It can be corrected for the new parts? is it like when swordsman put the red iron in cold water to cool it down? cant they do the same with that piece (of course when is not broken)? I understand what you said once, they probably discontinued it to minimize loses, because they have a time bomb in their hands, the more they have around the more replacements they need to do and pay for it.. Sad about the situation

it feels like SOG could dominate the small-tool market if they took the powerpint and removed the blades, can opener (the awl works fine in a pinch), eyeglasses driver, and line cutter and made the frame flush with the pliers. And fixed the heat treat. But that'd be a lot of tooling. That said, the powerpint has been out of stock on SOG's site for awhile, so... fingers crossed they're doing SOMETHING with that platform. Leatherman has quality at the Wave-Signal-Surge and arguably skeletool (CX, RX) tier, but their smaller tools have been disappointing. *some* of the juices have been good, but the rest too thick. style PS dominates on size, but at that point I feel like I'm better served by a victorinox rambler/manager between a pair of pocket pliers.

Yes. We absolutely need bladeless multi tools. What is the issue with this? Do they think that they are selling out to the anti-knifers? I'm not saying that all multi tools need to be bladeless but come on, people. Look at the world! Not to mention, nobody nowadays wants to give their kid a knife, it seems.I mean some people do but for those that don't - don't the multitool companies want to make those kids into future multi tool consumers by making multi tools that are appropriate for them now? I'm so irritated with this because I really don't like the style PS and I don't like the Gerber MP 600 bladeless and I don't want to pay for a knifeless rebar and the jetsetter - give me a break! No offense. Yours looks very nice. And I work in a hospital so I literally leave a little bit of my humanity in the car every morning, and go in... disarmed, I guess is sort of the word I'm looking for. Okay, just ranting, but SERIOUSLY!

sad thing is that even though my scissor spring still works as i am typing this (sweating) the blades themselves are dull as shit, and improperly tensioned. that is honestly what i thought this video would be about. overall poor quality control i feel

I got a Squirt P4 and was looking for a PS4 but I saw that the scissor spring breaks for no reason so I stayed away. And I got another P4. They know about this issue. Why does it make sense to them to ignore it? Not cool.

Off topic sorry, but do you know if the locking bit holder from the skeletool can fit into the signal? Would really love to be able to have that locking feature! Thanks!

Been thinking about getting a Nextool Flagship Mini and replacing the blade with a washer. Any chance that someone has had success with that mod?

10 years with a documented issues that hasn’t been addressed is silly. They probably figure no one will take em up on the warranty.

You’re not over-reacting. This issue is symptomatic of a much larger issue that does not apply solely to pocket/EDC knives-i.e., folks that design things (e.g., kitchen appliances, chairs, airport signs, etc.)…don’t use them!! 👎🏻😡👎🏻

The tweezers are put together like crap too. They ALWAYS come apart because they are just folded over and crimped.
