We have severe soil compaction on the farm and if we cannot get it corrected, it will cost us big time for many years to come.

Have you ever struggled with soil compaction in your market garden? It can be a real nightmare, affecting not only the health of your crops but also the productivity and profitability of your business. That's exactly what we experienced in our own market farm until we found a game-changing tool that saved our business and garden.
In this video, we'll show you how we discovered and used a spring tooth plow to correct severe soil compaction and transform our market garden from a struggling operation to a thriving one.
Not only did the spring tooth plow improve the physical structure of our soil, but it also enhanced the soil's nutrient absorption, which translated into healthier and more productive crops.
If you're struggling with soil compaction in your market garden, don't despair, a spring tooth plow could be the tool that saves your garden too.

Wow! That harrow could easily triple+ your vegetable output. And it isn't such a grueling, back-breaking task. Brooke's savvy shopping to the rescue yet again. There's few things more attractive than a loving couple being supportive of one another and working together as a cohesive team. (Having Holly included is a total plus!) Such great prices on the flowers. Brooke's shopping skills never cease to amaze.

Good morning Jason. That spring tooth haro is about the best choice you could make for breaking up compacted ground. Now if had that disc you could go over the same area and break up all the clods. Or you could go over it with your tiller. I put Chisels across the back of my tiller to form rows as I go. Just a thought. You might check with cattle and horse farms around your area, a lot of time they'll either give or sell you their manure by truck load and be glad to get rid of it. Just till it in and your all set. I get several tons throughout the year and add it into my gardens. I'm planting 8 acres this year. Jason when I was 12 years old I collected bottles and mowed grass to save up to buy my first .22 rifle. Funny the stuff you remember.

That's her tractor. He gets to use it if she's not available. A harrow needs to be decent sized so her tractor makes sense. The next toy they get needs to get hooked up to dad's tractor. Like a radio with stereo speakers. Now I know they had all weather radios to be mounted on the fender back in the 70's. Never seen an 8 track or cassette player on one. But I never sat in one with an air conditioned cab either. How much time was spent with a radio playing in the background while working outside in the fields or in the sheds? There was always a tractor close by with the box turned on. While the youngsters were rockers at heart they never spoke up about the bosses choice of WMAQ which was AM country out of Illinois that broadcast into Wisconsin quite a ways. Probably why there's a lot fewer Eric Forman and Fez's that came out that state in spite of disco. I'm not saying Brook doesn't deserve a stereo on her tractor. But now Dad is going to want to come over and see his old paint look spiffy. I don't know if you can find a cultivator to mount on it for running up and down the rows but there's no end to what can be hauled around by that little bugger. And it fits real nice on the back side of the house. Just don't start painting it like a Scoobie Doo van. Wait until Mary Carl wants to do it. That way you're only an enabler. If your dad's around he might not like a custom paint job like that. But Mary Carl will get away with it and leave him grinning.

I remember my parents buying 8 packs of glass bottles of Royal Crown Cola. 16oz bottles. And we had to return the bottles for the deposit after they were empty. We would go out looking for empty bottles that people had thrown away and we would return them. Take that money down the street to the Candy House. They had penny candy. How about fencing a smaller area at a time and running pigs on there. They will root up the ground and fertilise it too. Then plant something quick and green leaved to plough in and add to the soil. Soil building is the slowest , but most important basis for farming. Keep moving the pigs around as they do their work.

Jason, you crack me up! You have your own forest... Buy or rent a woodchipper and you'll never be short of wood chips. Also if you use the tractor to scrape an acre of forest floor (about two inches) every year or two, (leave it in a pile for a year) and you will have enough compost to top dress your garden forever. Keep up the great work.
@tankscrittersandurbanhomes5579

When my grandfather started his garden, he had the same issue. Now, this was 30 years ago. He tilled, then bucket all the soil off into a pile. Then tilled again. Then, leveled it with the soil he took off. He got about 7 inches of planting soil.

My hometown pf Hammonton in southern NJ had so many farmers back in the 50's. So many different options that they grew then: peaches, apples, strawberries, blueberries, sweet potatoes, asparagus, peppers, tomatoes, egg plant, cucumber and zucchini. We still have home gardens that grow the different vegetable varieties but the big farms now concentrate on one cash crop: blueberries. I miss the peach orchards the most especially when they bloom. I like Brooke's ability to steer Jason to the bargains she finds online.

I remember returning bottles to the grocery store. You had 8 or 10 packs of pop in cardboard cartons. You brought them to the customer service desk and they paid you for them or gave you a voucher. You them took the bottles to the back of the store and put them on a conveyor belt before doing your shopping. This was before plastic bottles. Cans weren't common then and were just thrown away. Dealing with the bottles was the kids job, Mum just oversaw the process.

A lot of folks don't realize that, even when you want to do no-till/no-dig, it's often necessary to disturb the existing soil deeply in order to be able to do no-till/no-dig. Some think that is a major sin, but you do what you have to do to get it started.

We had a similar problem in our field. I ended up getting a guy with a chisel plow and was able to break the hard pan from years of plowing with a regular plow. It eliminated the issues that we had with poor cultivation, it really improved production. It also increases the retention of moisture deeper into the soil. We had ours go down one and half foot because our soil had a lot of clay in it.

When I was little, we could only get Coke in bottles. We would then have to take them back to the grocery store every week. There was a rolling conveyor belt in the back of the store and I would love pushing the bottles on there and watching them roll away to be cleaned and reused. Pop just tastes better out of a glass bottle!

I remember picking up soda bottles and earning money on the return. Finding a 32 oz Coke bottle was like winning the jackpot back then.

I love seeing you all so excited about improvements on your farm. Cannot wait for the produce to start popping up for you all. Your roadside cart is going to be a huge hit. Are you going to hatch any chickens to sell? Then you could call your cart the "Chick Shack".
