@@ziga1122 If you can, find a partner. It should be someone you trust who fills in the gap in your knowledge. We have partners, but everybody is an engineer-it would have helped immensely to bring somebody in with business acumen. Search for and join any local town, city, or county business entrepreneurial program near you. If you can benefit from a strong internship program, so would the students at any higher education program-start it alongside your company as soon as you can. If you are successful, having both a path and the candidates to grow is great. Prior experience, skill, talent, education-it's all great and don't take it for granted, but also don't be afraid to look at your problems from a foundational perspective. We saved a ton of money by not being traditional with our agency-no offices, 4 day work week (8.5 a day), flexible schedules revolve around the jobs we're doing for our clients. You're going to make mistakes, but if your approach is disciplined you'll learn and adapt. Most people (other than those you meet online) are actually really helpful. Join some local business groups hopefully you have some in your area.

First, I can't wait to see what you'll be doing. Two, thanks a lot to Pirate Software. Honestly, I've only started watching you less than a year ago, but you've changed my perspective on my side projects. I kept having projects I'd think were good but would never finish and projects I'd finish but weren't that great. You were the one who allowed me to actually push through and continue projects I'd lost interest in. Asperger really makes it pretty much impossible to work on something I'm not interested in, and thanks to you I found new ways to make things interesting. I found challenges where I only saw boredom, I found ways to make things harder to myself so they'd easily keep my motivation up. Every year for the past 14 years, ever since I was 8, I feel like I wasn't half the programmer I became the year before, and it's especially true of this year. I went out of my way to learn so much more about everything, to challenge myself to do insane things (building a compiler, a VM and a programming language without looking at tutorials or documentation), and so much more. So thank you from the bottom of my heart, and congratulations on this first step!

Although we come from different worlds (I am a .NET Developer), I whole heartly wish you the best of luck in your endeavor. Eventually, I plan on creating a stream for the .NET world soon and develop fun applications for developers learning technologies in .NET and in Microsoft stack in general. It's like riding a roller-coaster: the decision may be a scary one, but the thrill of the ride is going to be worth it. Best of luck on doing what you love, I hope to see you in the streaming world soon!

Make sure you got all your stuff before your left the office. When I got laid-off from R&F back in January I left a cupcake in the empty locker next to mine. I really wanted that cupcake, it was chocolate with chocolate chips in it and some white frosting on top.

😅 Not going to lie... Prime had me sweating as there are so many ways a video with this kinda title could go. Wishing you all the best Prime and looking forward to more epic videos. Out of all the programmers I know both online and offline, you've had the biggest influence on me. A year ago I took your "Vim Fundamentals" course on Frontend Masters just to see what the hype was. Back then, my entire world was VS Code and JS. Now I'm watching this video while using Neovide, learning Rust, and C/C++ for DSA... I still have skill issues but who doesn't lol

What makes me respect you all that much more is your troubled past around excess drug use and still being able to take big chances like this. I'm scared to even get back into a tech role after melting my brain with drugs for years, never mind leaving a company like Netflix. Years of sobriety still haven't persuaded me to bet on myself and yet here you are, cool, confident and ready to run to your next venture. Good on ya, Prime. I truly hope you succeed!
@Gigusx

I know it's easy to say, but the sooner you bet on yourself the better. It's more likely than not that you'll not live out your life without ever taking a radical chance, and when you do you'll be angry with yourself that you haven't taken it sooner. It's in a way just delaying the inevitable and the consequences grow with every passing day.

It's crazy because one of the things that I thought separated Prime from the rest of the influencers, was his presence at Netflix. I thought he was different because he was "in the field", like us, and delivering in prod, as he spoke to us, so his insight seemed more valuable to me. Compare that with other tech influencer that "were" in FAANG (or other), and get more and more detached of the reality of the job, as time goes on. These influencers tend to end up jumping trend to trend to stay relevant, and lose sight of company goals and job market. Anyways, wish him success.

Im suprised I to scroll this far to see a likeminded comment All these full-time-youtubers / pundits / consultants become repetitive real quick The only interesting people on here are those having skin in the game, doing something usefull in the real world and then talk a bit on youtube or other on the side How could it be otherwise?

Netflix is made of engineers, the real difference with other influencers is that he was likely a central figure in Netflix, one of the OGs. He was Netflix more than he worked at Netflix, to some extent at least. He still is the same amazing engineer by the way.

Good on you. Having been in software for 25 years, I have seen people get nervous about leaving a job after a long tenure. Think about it like this; You learn new programming languages and methodologies on a regular basis to keep up to date and exercise your brain. Making a job change is no different, sure there might be a few bugs early days and maybe things are a bit wonky here and there. But in the long run you will be able to achieve great things (if not greater) in your new job because you bring with you all the skills and experience from the last. No need to be nervous! all your Javascript skills have lead you to Go and the great things you are doing with it. (Netflix is Javascript in this scenario ;))

1. I'm happy you actually outro'd as Primeagen 2. THE CHANNEL NAME IS FINALLY CORRECT OMG. WTF IS THEPRIMTIME ANYWAY As a youtube frog and as someone who is working as a SWE, I enjoyed this channel because you were also in the trenches. You weren't some UI developer who got youtube clout and went on to become a Dev Rel claiming to do engineering work. You actually did the work with scars and war stories to show for it. I'd like to congratulate you. Your career is #goals and I would be stoked to have an iota of it in my career. I'm rooting for you on this new endeavor. It only makes sense.
