It is a dream that was seen and cycled so many times that it emerged into reality Falke, when interacted with the artifact at mines, got poisoned by two minds of both Ariane and Elster, which made her go sick and eventually fall in coma While in coma, she was so torn apart, because she was both Ariane and Eslter, who both wanted to spend with each other at-least a few more minutes and have their last dance (which was their promise in the game). So, Falke became dreaming of Elster finding her way to Ariane. This dream repeated for so many times, and for so many times Elster have failed, and would never succeed cause it's all a dream and none of it's real anyway. Due to Falke being the most powerful bioresonant unit (which literally meant powerful manifestation of dreams into reality) she manifested this dream that she kept dreaming of into reality itself. It was not instant, it was a slow degradation of reality into Falke's dream. Almost if you took a book and slowly started to change it's plot into something new, step by step. This lead to Alina Seo, which was working at the facility, slowly turn into Ariane, so that Ariane could have a body once more (Alina was mentioning that her hair turns white and she starts to have memories of another person, as well as a memory of Ariane's relationship with Elster). This is just a short description of what's actually happening in the game, and is missing lots of other details. I hope this had cleared the plot a bit for ya.

I just finished my 3rd playthrough recently and I tried so hard to get the promise ending but I still got the memory ending, it seems I'm stuck in my own endless cycle.
