I once dropped my KLX300SM. I was sad for 5 minutes then picked it up. Then I realized that she was… completely fine. I have a very bad habit of using the front brake in low speed, and honestly I’m surprised that I haven’t dropped her more.

Just an addition. If the bike dropped on the exhaust side: Put the kickstand down BEFORE you pick the bike up. And be very careful not to burn yourself on the exhaust while you lift the bike.

Man this made me feel so much better. Stopped in a parking lot with a slight slope and uneven pavement earlier today. Been riding for a few weeks now and things were becoming second nature. Went to get off the bike like I have a dozen times before - and my brain took a bit too long to realize why it wasn’t settling on the kickstand. I forgot to put it down. Amazing how the bike goes from completely manageable to what feels like a million pounds in just a few seconds. Just a few extra degrees of lean angle and it’s all over. I felt so disappointed in myself - like maybe I’m not cut out for this - despite loving every second on that bike. Yam - hearing you say it’s not a big deal and hearing everyone else’s experiences goes a loooong way. My lesson today was complacency - it’s easy to forget how heavy the machine you are on is - and how you really need to stay focused at all times. Even something as routine as getting off the bike can go wrong quickly. Mistakes are fine - as long as you learn from them. Glad I’m not the only one still learning.

Here's one, I was TEST riding a brand new z650 and thought I could pull a tight U-turn and dropped it. Fortunately for both the dealer and I, I was already set on buying it. Here's another, brand new Ducati Monster 821, I'm at a stop light. Once the light turned green, got off the rear break and didn't put my foot down all the way, tried to get in gear but didn't, got my right foot back up (both feet on pegs now) rev bombed on Neutral!!!! Tipped over and dropped it lol. Last one, washing my 2006 Ninja 250 and cleaning the chain... I was pushing the bike back into the garage with chain cleaner and soapy water on the floor... you guessed it, slipped and fell hit my chin. It's always something stupid, my advice is be patient, stay mental engaged in what you are trying to do, and think everything out. You'll thank me later.

2 weeks into riding my brand new 2005 CBR125 as a basic course passer, I dropped in in a car park on the right after losing my footing on wet diesel. I wish I’d known to put the kick stand down before I lifted it, would have saved buying the left side indicators when it fell over that way after standing it up and loosing my footing on the same slippery patch or tarmac. But the first thing to do is make sure the engine is off!!

Great video Yam. I've been riding for about 15 years and I've dropped every one of my bikes. I always wanted an adventure bike so when Harley came out with their Pan America I excitedly got on the waiting list and bought one (2022 Pan America S). I love the bike but I've dropped it a few times while maneuvering without power (backing up, or mounting the bike). The problem is I'm only 5'8. I thought the adaptable ride height would be my savior but alas it was not. I also got the lower seat. Fortunately I've never had to lift it alone, people seem to always want to help in Central Georgia.

My first bike was a 2005 Suzuki Katana. Back in 2008 I was riding out of a gas station through the car wash area. The ground was slippery and soapy so when I put my feet down I started slipping and sliding all over the place and comically laid the bike down. I danced around trying to get the bike up and finally did so. I barely made it out of the gas station that day. The crazy thing is people were staring and not even offering help! In hindsight it was probably hilarious to watch for others. It happens!

As others have said, first step kill the engine (if it didn't automatically shut off) and turn the ignition off. I think you can also turn off the fuel valve on a castrated bike. If the bike is on the right side, put the kick stand down before you lift the bike. If the bike is not in gear try to lock the front brake so the bike doesn't roll around/away from you.

@@stepintotheunknownnowKeep the revs slightly above idling at all times and gently control your speed with the clutch. If you feel like you're losing balance straighten your steering if possible and gently ease on the clutch while keeping your revs constant. Once you feel the clutch engaging HOLD IT at that exact position until you've gained enough speed and balance. I'm a beginner too so please correct me if I'm wrong but this is essentially what my instructor told me after I dropped the bike during slow speed (5 km/h) maneuvers.

1 month of riding and i dropped my 94 Suzuki Intruder in the lamest way... Starting it up in neutral so it could warm up while gearing up as ive done numerous times... I dont know why i did it differently this time but i had apparently straightened the handle bars this time on the slightest downhill inclined parking space... Turned around to grab my helmet and next thing i know it was on the ground. Don't start your motorcycle in neutral with the handlebars straight on an incline unless you are on it! Lesson learned. Barely any damage cept a scuff on the fork, but noticed the next day fuel leaking upwards from a valve above the fuelcock while fuel is off... Doesnt leak while on and im stumped how it happened because all of that stuff is recessed into the bike. Maybe its age outlined another problem or wearing out o-ring or something? Ordered new valve hose and clamp, hopefully that fixes it cuz if not i wont know what to do.

It kind of depends on the weight of the bike and your strength. I've dropped my CB500X more than once, but it's light enough and I'm strong enough that I can just pick it back up without much effort. If I was picking up a 'Busa I might have to think about my lower back, but for most bikes I'm actually considering owning I can just snatch them off the ground. My wife on the other hand, this video is definitely for her. Her power to bike-weight ratio is significantly lower.

Dropped mine twice within 5 minutes of each other. It was about a week after I picked it up from the dealer. I got distracted and went to put the kickstand down while the bike was still on, hit the shift lever instead and it got away from me, broke my brake lever and scuffed up the mirror a bit. Second time I didn't realize the kickstand was up and it got away from me again, bent the shift lever and the clutch lever.

Low speed parking lot maneuvers, car speeding around the corner on the wrong side of the lane, I hit the brakes while he swerved, slow motion tip over so was able to just step off and not go down myself. I not only avoided getting hit, but the peg caught in a hole in the ground and propped the bike up. It really only tipped 45° and stopped. I just hopped back on and straightened it up.

It had no number plates, I had no papers on me bc I left them in my car, nothing. Just started rolling when from the fog a police car appeared and pulled me over. I got so scared that I didn't notice that the side stand jumped back so I laid down the bike right in front of the policeman....can imagine, what he was thinking. 🙂 Strange thing, laying it down like that on the asphalt I didn't see a single scratch on it afterwards...or maybe it was the adrenaline making me blind? 🙂 Anyway, I paid the fine, bought the bike and whenever I think back on it, I just smile. I felt soooo stupid.

Lame but I was warned it would happen as you say. Basically, I tried to do a U turn at night, right left turn, and I didn’t realize how inclined the road was so I leaned too far. But I don’t regret letting it drop, for a split second I could have MAYBE saved it but it was gonna be close and I didn’t want to hurt my wrists back or foot tbh.

We both took the Manitoba motorcycle riders safety course together. Passed with few mistakes and of course I drop his brand new bike. Granted the bike is a bit too tall for me and a bit heavy for me. We just made a deal on a 2019 Honda Rebel today which is so much better for me size wise. I’m sure I’ll drop it too. I don’t even remember what made me fall. I had been doing great riding all around our neighbourhood and then just this one stop sign I came up to after about an hour of riding and I just started to fall over and that was the end of it. He was so mad at me. And then this summer I had been doing pretty good riding his bike again butWTF it happened again. And again I can’t remember exactly what caused me to fall. But I sure felt pretty stupid and really bad. He was really mad at me. That was last week and I haven’t even asked when I can go back out on the bike again. I think I won’t be riding till we are bringing that Rebel home

Hi Papa Yam. There's actually an easier way to pick up a bike: Stand on the part of the front tire that is touching the ground while facing the handlebar and grab the handle near you with one hand and a straight arm, then bend in the knees and hips and stick your other arm and your behind out backwards while twisting your torso backwards and using your bodyweight as a counterweight to lift the bike, and you'll be saving yourself a lot of strength.

This is an excellent method, IF you've got a suitably shaped bike. Taller, heavier bikes are VERY difficult to lift this way, particularly for shorter people. Most relevant for adventure bikes, which tend to be tall and (comparatively) heavy. This method is best imho for sport bikes, where it's wildly superior to the butt lift.

Dropped my kawasaki z400 in my barn(dirt floor that's got lots of bumps) got off it and went to put the kickstand down, had to lean it to the other side more cause rocks the kickstand was hitting and it slowly fell over, the whole falling time had to be like 4 seconds of it just slowly falling, kinda sucks but there wasn't a single mark on it. Been riding for almost 5 years now too

I rode the friggin Dragon, skyway, parkway etc. all in one day. After that, I dropped my Tuono 660 while busting a u turn in the parking lot of the hotel. I couldn't help but laugh. I had just spent the day riding some of the most dangerous roads I've ever been on at a spirited pace, then immediately dropped my bike doing something so simple. It happens. Only problem is, I still can't find that Aprilia "a" decal in stock anywhere.

Quickly get an Uber to a party shop, purchase a bunch of helium balloons, go back and attach them to your bike to make it easier to lift. Pro-tip: It also makes the impact less damaging if you do this before you drop it.

I was turning my bike around in the garage which my fathers truck was also in. I was using the clutch to move forward when I put the front brake on too hard. I dropped it really slowly fortunately. I scratch on the exchaust and thats it. No chips on the plastics, the bars hit the ground so soft they hardly moved. But damn. If I were just a little more attentive i wouldnt had dropped it.

All I know if I was scared to death to ride it for the first time . I fought it was almost able to keep her up but I let her down slowly it did break just a small piece of the break lever we looked he over she is fine . Buddy offered to drive it home for me if I wanted but no I was determined to get it home with me riding her. Loving that bike so far.

I have been riding street bikes since 1994 dirt bikes long before that. I ride a Harley. Last summer my girlfriend and I were coming out of a parking lot. I put my foot down on a big round rock about the size of a baseball. That rock rolled and took my leg with it. There was traffic all around us, cars waiting to pull out of the parking lot behind us, cars pulling into the parking lot in front of us and over we went. All I could do was laugh. I knew the bike wasn't hurt; we weren't hurt but I was so embarrassed. A cager that was pulling into the parking lot seen the bike on its side, stopped and told me he was a rider then the two of us picked it up really quick. But yes, everybody drops their bike now and again.

Yam, next time show us how to pick up vespa or grom. Please choose something worse to showing, something like elerctro glide, gold wing, 1250 gs. Handling of small bikes (especially KTM with one cylinder) doesnt require any spacial technique, big bikes from other hand really does, without it you wont be able to pick it up.

Worst one for me was dropping the bike WHILE doing an oil change. Half the oil spilt out the fill cap. Make sure your handlebars lean the right direction when taking the rear stand off. And even if you're confident, put the fill cap on... Oh, and maybe just use a front stand too so you don't have to precariously hold the bike while trying to check the level by yourself

I bought a front stand of yammienoob shop after this happened ;)
@MrEiniweini
@MrEiniweini Жыл бұрын
You might want to check that out dude. The fill window is positioned so that the oil shows correctly while the bike is on the stand because obviously you can't have it upright unless it has a middle stand. The designers thought about that one. It is not meant to be a two man job.
@nickmcpimpson
@nickmcpimpson Жыл бұрын
@@MrEiniweini what I was always told is to have it off the rear stand to check. The service manual only said "perpendicular to the ground"
@MrEiniweini
@MrEiniweini Жыл бұрын
@@nickmcpimpson I just suggest you follow it up. The idea for the window is that in pre-check you can look at the window and see the oil is visible. If you stand the bike up to level it and then rest it on the stand, the oil drops under the window and shows empty. There would be no point in the window.
