These are all my best tips from deciding to embrace a lower-stress life 5 years ago. I've been slowing down, minimizing and learning lots about myself in the process. I hope this video leaves you with some fast-acting relief that you can apply to your own life today!
So grateful for the kind of women who find this channel.
I love reading your comments, and emails!
Big love as always,
Madi

I am in the middle of my healing phase. I just quit my job as a professor to become a nanny. While I did not pursue entrepreneurialism, nannying for a good family has allowed me to live slowly while I am at work and feel all the oxytocin from caring for a child. I have started to love my life more than I have in years. This decision was inspired by your videos, so thank you ❤

I have done the same thing and have found the same reward!!! Although, I only work one day a week or less (which is not sustainable), but it is highly rewarding. I am so happy I found your comment. Being a nanny makes my soul sing again… I was a nanny before I chose to “adult” in this world. I realize now, I chose wrong, but now want to make it right. I’m healing too, and I hope we come out a new woman ❤

11:25 “It’s not gonna look normal.” This hit home for me. That’s been one reason it’s been hard to live this unconventional lifestyle. Everyone expects me to live like them and do the 9-5 and be stressed and always go, go, go. It’s hard when people just don’t understand this is actually what I want and it’s good for me. I need to accept that in today’s modern age, it’s not normal and that’s ok.

This! Exactly this! I had a television for 17 years even though I have never watched it. Everyone told me I couldn’t get rid of it….everyone has a tv. So I kept it. Paid the tv bill (UK license) £2500 I’ve wasted. Never switched it on once. Everyone lectures me about having a kindle because I read. I got a kindle. I hated it. I love books. Now everyone is telling me I need an air fryer. I don’t want an air fryer or a bread maker or a mixer. I do things by hand and just in the oven. I don’t need all the clutter. I’m finally learning to say no. I don’t like or need these things. I’m happy being the way I am. People still struggle to let me be but it’s improving because I’m certain of myself now I’m older. Respect peoples wishes and let them be.❤😊

Madi you nailed it! What I love so much about your videos is you don’t give a list for everyone to follow you give practical real life examples of where disorder in your personal life caused chaos and harm. That healing process of re- prioritizing can be difficult but so worthwhile if we allow ourselves the room to be like a little child learning to do something for the first time. We all need grace and you are so gracious with giving grace and love in an area where someone could feel like a total failure. There is no failing. There is only ever growth! ❤

Madi, I found your channel just a few months ago. I don't do social media and not much on youtube. Your channel is the only thing I'm wanting to receive right now. Except a few pretty gardening channels. Trying to live light. I have to finally leave you a comment because your content is part of my healing and I am loving you. My husband was taught people pleasing from childhood. The thing about people pleasing is you don't know that's what it is. And so I "learned" it too. I am realizing this. I have been a mother for 13 years, I have three boys, have always homeschooled, and have invested my heart and soul. I have savored every moment, and yet I have slowly realized that really I've been in survival mode for so very long. I have worked for years to naturally manage adrenal fatigue and high cortisol has actually harmed my hormones and liver/gallbladder. It's all connected! I eat clean and am natural minded. So I can 100% see how it's stress that harms more than anything. Working to heal completely. It's a delicate act because we can even stress about healing. (Currently I am trying to minimize my house more and with three wide open boys and my husband's odd work schedule I'm feeling it.) You encourage calm and I appreciate that and just wanted to say so!

The dark chocolate tastes different when you're not running around your kitchen doing a million things.....oh I gasped and laughed because i do that! I don't even taste it! Thank you for this one-really hit home in a lot of ways. I'm still trying to believe that when I let go of what really is not for me, that I really will still be there on the other side of it and maybe more recognizable to myself than I can even imagine.

Thank you so much

When I was 12 I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. The career I wanted involved a lot of higher education. God opened so many doors for me to complete that education debt free and I'm so thankful for that, but college is stressful, and 7 years of it was really stressful. Throw in the major life changes of getting married (going on and back off the pill), covid, job changes, and buying a house, and it's been a tough but good few years. I found your content, Madi, and Margaret Matheny's around the same time when I was at my most stressed and anxious and you guys helped me see how I could heal. God has been so good to me and now it's my first summer working the job I love and I'm starting to grow into living slowly while working my 9-5. This stage isn't forever and there will always be more change ahead, but now I can see how much more I am able to savor what I have and receive good things with most of the physical and mental clutter gone.

I heard a quote that said do you want to appear happy or do you want to BE happy and it’s really stuck with me. And in this video I just kept hearing it over and over and I love it! Thank you!! I have 1 questions for you, how do you gracefully accept a gift as a new minimalist and someone who is actively trying to declutter their life?

Love the way you discussed the cycle of giving and receiving. As women we are wired to be givers. The hard part is being open for receiving the gifts of others. My daughter in law has blessed me with my first grandchild. It has brought my son and DIL closer as they are both looking at their family lifestyle and have been open to my perspective as a woman who worked outside the home. I have encouraged them to embrace SAHM and simple living.

I have followed you for months and have implemented your strategies to become more of a minimalist. The problem is my husband does not embrace Minimalism. He doesnt allow me to declutter too much and make our home more relaxing and slow. It is a big roadblock and I dont know how to overcome because he hasn't displayed any sign that he is changing anytime soon. Since my husband is not on board I feel stuck in this journey. Also my stepdaughter is a maximalist teen and not on board either. I don't know how to have peace in my own home with opposite mindsets.

I think living the way you do in the US is much more “rebellious” and “courageous” than living like that in Europe or other countries. Not that mass consumerism doesn’t exist over here, too, but living simply is so much more common over here, so much so that people wouldn’t even call it that way, because it’s just “normal”. I think your work is very important and I love that you inspire so many to look beyond. x
