I like that he states his preference for 'taking heads' versus leaf propagation. Good tip for this newbie although I'll do both until I have more plants.

The plant u showed around 9 min looks very much like vera Higgins. Some of them have such small differences. Edit: I also propagate all pieces of mine to maximize my numbers. I've recently multiplied mine by approx 200 individual specimens this way. Love ur vids I've watched them all several times since I found u. U have reassured me so I could move forward. Thank u. I am fascinated on how you propagate those beautiful succulent. Cut the big heads let it dry and leaving the stems to produce more pups. Same with Laura Eubank of design for serenity just planting succulent right after she cut and set it in soil without drying. I love watching you guys.

thanks for sharing another informative video. I do quite a bit of cutting prop myself but I find that the stems dont put out much growth to not survive at all. what could I possibly be doing wrong? I usually have them under grow lights to keep them alive in winter months. ty

I am a beginner, but the propagation part attracts me mainly for the purposes of saving something of my plants if I mess up and they die 😅 I was given two cactuses as a gift last year, tiny little things in tiny pots, and I wanted to take good care of them because I've always been a plant momma (though my green thumb has been painstakingly developed and far from innate). So I figured I should repot them, give them some more space, and then I remembered some succulent arrangements I've seen, figured that succulents and cactuses require more or less the same kind of care, and that I could both spruce up the look of my two cactus babies and also have them not be alone by planting them with some succulents in a big bowl. I got an echeveria perle von nurnberg, another echeveria agavoides (can't avoides the agavoides?), a cotyledon tomentosa and a haworthia. All of them were way bigger than I expected or wanted, but the haworthia had a bunch of pups trying to push out of a too-small pot already (mom is flowering right now!) so I gave each a separate pot and put the biggest one in the big bowl, cut off the two off-branches of the cotyledon and those are two separate plants now, and just kinda cut my losses with the echeverias and planted them as they were. The cactuses are growing quickly, though, so it's all good. I have a question, though, I'm not sure if you would know the answer. The echeveria perle von nurnberg seems to have developed, in a very short time, a section of the stem of maybe a cm, right above soil level, that looks almost shriveled or withered away. The sections of the stem both above and below are totally fine, but that section couldn't bear the plant's weight and it fell over. I beheaded it, pulled out the stem with the roots just in case this is a disease, but the roots were perfectly fine - no sign of over- or underwatering - and I just recently got rid of like five mealybugs, there aren't any more on it. Is this etiolation? The arrangement gets sun from about 9am to 1pm right now because we're nearing the summer equinox (center of Spain) and the cotyledon is staying just as compact as it ever was, I don't have the impression it's not getting enough light... could it be a disease? I can't find information on this, if I look up anything along the lines of 'shriveled stem echeveria' I just get pages about underwatering but the leaves are nice and strong and not dry. Or could it be... sun damage... even though this particular section of the stem did not directly get sunlight on it and the rest of the plant is fine? I've been seeing its lower leaves dry out and fall off for a while now, when I found the mealybugs I figured it was their fault but maybe something's been wrong for longer? It still has plenty of leaves on top though...

Lol I’m so glad I didn’t watch this until now, my interest started in October 2020, and I started with rare seeds, so far so good, have only failed with sedum seeds. So beginners luck would have it, I’m up to almost 20 little pots of seedlings, I hope the grow up big and strong. ☺️

I’m a first time succulent parent. Just trying my hand at leaf propagation. Some pups and roots have appeared. Hopefully, I’ll get plants from them. Haven’t ventured into beheading and stem propagation yet.

How do you propagate the compact species with head-chopping? Do you cut the center of the rosette? Or do you just WAIT for an offset to form?

Wondering about a head chop, I've worked out in my head (haha) but havent enough guts to actually do it.. ok . I have a variegated ghost plant that is super etoilated (sp?). Sure I can chop the head off and reset it and then I would leave the stem behind to grow some babies. Fingers crossed. Here's my question. Should I leave some leaves behind on that stem. Does that help it photosenthisize (sp again?) Or should I pluck those leaves and propagate them as well bc leaving them on the stalk wont do much of anything?? Yes I'm a beginner, if it isnt too OBVIOUS!!

I had success in CA, but in the desert it’s awfully hard to grow succulents.

I have been collecting succulents for 4 years and it is significantly harder to propagate them were i live because of how cold and dry it is, I have finally figured out how to do it from a leaf with about 9 out of 10 leafs surviving.

Hallow chuck.. l'm from india, Westbengal. In my pace, the weather is hot and humid ... Have experienced a lot of fungal attack.. and in every cases, it has been a stem rot. I have seen many people suggesting that we should mix fungicide in the Soule mix while soil mix preperation.. is it a good thing to do? And plese suggest me a good fungicide... thanks..

Ahh I guess I am a beginner. I take the leaves from Lowe’s that have fallen. I di ask the manager for permission. Free! Now I have become a succulent lifter (a.k.a. Shop lifter) I take cuttings from pots from other people. Again free! Ha ha. One problem I have to research the name of the plants.

Surly not all succulents are suitable for the chop top method eq. Haworth's, Aloe's, in fact any succulents that do not have stems or have I missed some of your excellent videos that deal with these plants?

Hello Chuck Difficult question, in most areas I’m a beginner as there are so many varieties that I wouldn’t even know about let alone propagate An intermediary in a few types of succulents that I’ve been propagating for about 8 years I started off doing lots of leaves and was successful but I agree very slow in achieving reasonable sized plants -I now use offsets but may try some leaves from Echeverias that I only have one specimen ( especially the ones that I purchased from you) I must add you are a wonderful loving father Cheers Maria 🙋‍♀️❤️

I watched this entire video to find out "how" and you tell me 2 words, head chop? As a beginner, (started with 2 aloes last summer and now have been accumulating succulents), the idea of a head chop seems drastic and I would not know where to begin. Now, on to continue my quest into propagating...
