Einstein said "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" and the way you explain things makes it clear you (a) REALLY know your stuff and (b) genuinely want to share that knowledge and (c) have a real talent for (b)! Great video Damo. The key point for new investors is "It's not about trying to time the market but it's about time in the market" Simply put, get involved and keep adding and ride out the peaks and troughs that will happen along the way. If you try to buy the dips and sell at what you think are peaks then over time you will get it wrong and drive yourself mad.

Thanks Carol. Great info as ever and I was mentally checking what I’d done so far with my investing against your content. Your right that it’s never too late to start investing now and like everyone else who watches your channel, am kicking myself I didn’t start sooner. I grew up in a time where saving was considered good and it was instilled in me by my parents. Not a bad thing but only later in my 40s did I appreciate the difference, good and bad, that investing brings. Cheers again.

I see it as less of a get rich scheme and more as an extra pension that will hopefully have a bonus attached to it when i do retire. I'm recently 50/50 invested between LS 80 (a set and forget) and the Sustainable Life 60 fund (something I watch a little more but is close to my heart). Thanks to your videos for a lot of help picking up the confidence to do so. Would love to hear your thoughts on Sustainable (in environmental terms) investing and the future of it if you have any!

I think anything that has a sustainable focus is a positive and with sustainable life I think there is a really good ESG team behind the scenes making sure the guidelines around sustainability are being followed. Everyone needs to do more and financial powerhouses like Vanguard has the influence and reach to really create change. For that reason I am for it, to play devils advocate I do not want to see investors charged more just for an ESG sticker.. Like vegans being charged more to not eat meat.

Hi Damien, fabulous video as always, thank you. Can I suggest a future video on the differences between ETFs and OEICs. I think the latter have slightly greater regulatory protection, and thus may better for long term investors, ie those using pension wrappers. Just a thought.

Great video. Not yet started investing but looking to make a start this year. It’s all very confusing so it’s been great to find your Chanel that breaks it all down and makes it, make sense. I see how a stocks and shares isa is a great idea. Do you have any info on short/medium term investing to look at along side an isa?

You can do short and medium term stuff inside your isa if you choose the correct platform! It will just protect you from tax.

I'm a big fan of the channel, but I think characterising index investing as a Ready meal versus a top-class restaurant makes it sound a bit underwhelming (like maybe you're having to compromise a bit because you can't afford the good stuff ?). Virtually all experts and academics agree that index investing is far and away the best approach for building wealth. Trying to pick individual stocks is a fool's game, because nobody can predict the future. It's worth noting that even Buffett has lagged the S&P500 for a couple of decades. Buying an index is almost always the smartest move, no matter what your level of expertise. Great vid.

I completely agree with this comment and thank you for posting it. I meant ready meal in the sense of something that is easy to consume and use, yes I described them as adequate but I also pointed out the excellent returns. I only used this comparison so beginners,who the video is aimed at can grasp the concept and of course I am massively over simplifying the topic for the purpose of the video. I did not mention active funds in the video and I was critical of fees within the investing world, so honestly I share your opinion that for 99.9% of people indexing is the best option.

I put into berkshire B and s&p 500 to me Warren buffets berkshire B Is a great start and the S&P 500 is great. My choice of the S&P and berkshire has given me profits year on year.

I opened a Vanguard life strategy 100% equity fund last year after watching one of your videos. I put a grand into an account for a laugh to see if it actually works. A year later and it’s made 21% back. My only regret is that I didn’t invest more. Imagine if I’d have invested 10k. I plan to put a lot into one of the long term environmental friendly accounts shortly.
