My dog definitely helped me with my depression. I wouldn't even feel like getting out of bed but I knew she needed me. I got up to take care of her and ended up taking care of myself too. In retrospect, I think God decided He wants her to come home at the pinnacle of her long life, all though her admirers were not ready to let her go! Betty suffered no pain went to sleep happy and looking forward to her Birthday celebration, and woke up in Heaven. I will miss you Betty, but you made a perfect exit from this earthly life, you always were a class act!

Betty's dear friend Mary Tyler Moore was also an incredible animal lover. More than 20 years ago, Mary and Bernadette Peters created Broadway Barks, a once a year animal adoptathon in Schubert Alley on Broadway in NYC. Thousands of dogs, cats, bunnies have been adopted over the years. Mary is gone too, but hopefully she and Betty and Allen will be laughing together in heaven and cuddling all their departed pets. I don't think heaven is heaven unless our departed animals are there too.....so I hope she's surrounded with furry love as well.

There is a fine picture that made the cover of KENNEL REVIEW magazine March, 1983, Betty White with Ch. Vin-Melca's Before Dawn, a Norwegian Elkhound that had taken Best in Show in her most recent competition. It's hard to say which had the wider smile or the brighter eyes. We can be sure Betty was MOBBED with the welcomes at the Rainbow Bridge. She may be at peace, but I doubt that her animal-companions will give her (and Allen Ludden) much rest.

Nothing should be addressed by the insulting pronunciation that this breed has endured for far too many years.
