Stats, technical and tactical analisis, neutral players/coaches speaking about which one is better (meaning the ones that didn't play with or manage either), etc. You can like Cristiano Ronaldo better and that's valid. But when it comes to who is the better player....liking is not the answer. It's Messi whether we like it or not. Not admitting so is either football ignorance (technically and tactically) or being to fanboyish.

It is just testimony to how biased much of the media is nowadays. I didn’t grow up watching or playing soccer (football). But watching a random Messi highlight film started me on a journey that has me planning a trip to Barcelona to watch the man in person. And for as well as Messi plays, he seems far less cocky than the NBA players here in America that act far more cocky despite having accomplished far less in their respective career.

well said Cesar. He has been the most defended attacking player of his time. In those second placed Copa finals he was literally brutalized. Always double and tripled teamed with constant fouling and yet his figures are some of the best. Best player in the world over the span of his career. 6 Bal O'Dor, best player in Olympics and 2014 WC. Also best player in Copa this year. Anyone who says otherwise is simply an overly passionate fan of another player.

Many of them had other jobs besides football, like firefighters, janitors, plumbers etc. They also smoked cigarettes, marijuana, drank alcohol and some of them did cocaine. And there was no science behind the defense, no tactics and detailed studies, they just had defenders who chased the ball like dogs. There were some great defenders back then, but they were very rare. They didn't have defenders like in modern football, and the managers were not focusing on defense, they focused more on attack. Pele was lucky to be playing in that era. If you put Timo Werner in that era he would score 10 goals every match..
