Going into a port can be a confusing. The first time I came to a port I felt like a chicken with a head cutt off. Today I got to go into two ports in the Houston area and It's a big cluster of trucks just going every witch way. After going into the first one the other port was almost exactly the same. If you have to go to a port try to get information from a driver that has been there before so it will be less confusing for you. I hope this video helps you guys out.

I grew up in Seabrook just a few miles from Bayport. I volunteered with CLEMC (ambulance) that covered Clear Lake area and included Bayport 20 years ago. Also volunteered with Seabrook Vol. Fire Department for 5 years. I enjoyed seeing you film part of my old stomping grounds 😀

That's quite complicated! In Rotterdam harbour (the Netherlands) it's been completely automated for at least 10 years now! You have to log in with your driverscard and then the Straddle-carrier knows exactly what container to pic for you... On a good day you're in and out in 20 minutes or les!

I miss the other kind of semis "cabovers". Back in the '80s I saw them everywhere. Also I remember real well there was a mix of conventional cabs & cabovers around back in the '80s. Today the only cabovers I see around are fire trucks, garbage trucks, yard trucks, & small non semi box trucks like the ones that furniture companies have.

Enjoy your videos. I’m from Pearland and have been a OTR for a handful of years. Getting burned out and to be honest. Want to spend more time with my family. I’m thinking of coming aboard to a company out of LaPort who main transportation is hauling containers. Now I’ve stayed away from the ports. Cause of the long down times I’ve always encountered. But My question is. 1). Have you ever experienced long (4+hours) wait times being there? 2). Does your company supply the trailer or do you have to hunt one down. You know out of all my years of trucking (DV, Refer and Flatbed) this routine will be completely different. Guess I will feel like a new born baby deer learning how to walk. But guess by doing this over and over everyday. One can doing it blindfolded. PS. You mentioned the short container is the most dangerous to haul. Is that because it’s top heavy to the length of the trailer. Thx

I never knew the short semi trailers could be dangerous like you said you've heard.

Hi if your load is less than a full container, how does it get unloaded? Does your load get taken to a warehouse on or near the port? If it does go to a warehouse, do you have to have a CDL to pickup or can a regular vehicle pick up the load (only 2000 lbs load)?

Greetings from California. And I have a few questions like how restricted is it to record video inside the port because here in California it's prohibited but people still record anyways and don't get in much trouble when caught recording and my second is how is the work flow does it slow down at times or is everything smooth and what about the port clerks/workers do they ever get lazy and are they mean because over here they are lazy and the worst people ever they think they are tough because they have a good union.

Did it for 5 years in long beach California, playa larga time. For me it was great o operator average $2000 to $2600 for 5 days of work. I miss it ,left because of the carb regulation in California. Regional after that.

What year semi can you use in the Houston ports? And does “carb compliant” zero emissions exist in those ports? Here in California Los Angeles/ Long Beach ports 2010 or older will not be “Carb compliant” so we won’t be able to use these trucks no more.

---------- concerning the 20ft containers -------- small but heavy when put on chassis makes truck extremely top heavy --------- WHY can't a lowboy/ dropdeck container chassis be made available to get load (grain) closer to ground where the stability is increased significantly Status quo only puts additional responsibility on driver -------- its about money shipping firms worth billions ------ put burden of unsafe load on trucker ----------- and so it goes.... stay safe Jorge -------
