THIS Is How The Indiana Fever BARELY Defeated The Minnesota Lynx
The Indiana Fever just won a TOUGH game against the Minnesota Lynx. Although Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell didn’t have their best games, the Indiana Fever pulled off a comeback win. How did they do it? They changed the pace of the game.

CC has the same problem John Elway had for many years: a coach who didn't respect and/or didn't understand his abilities. Dan Reeves would keep him on a short leash for three quarters. When the Broncos inevitably fell behind he'd let him play his game in the 4th, and Elway would pull out a win. CC has to deal with Sides, who wants the team to play slower. Good gravy, CC's super power is that she thinks faster than the other players. She sees the game faster.

I think Sides is fully aware of Clark's abilities, but for whatever reason is hell bent on making sure she does not use them. You can't be in a game winning by 20+ points, then slow it down and almost lose without being aware of how you got to that point. People are yelling at her about losing that lead. She knows who helped them get it. That woman has issues and mad disrespect for Clark. The whole team needs to just take over and stop listening. As long as they are winning, then Sides won't have a voice (At least it will be weaker than it already is).

Sides wanted them to push when they rebound. The problem was they were not getting stops and giving up offense rebounds. Sides has done a good job for the most part. She has had to change her entire philosophy to fit CC and Mitchell’s skill sets and the team is responding. In a couple of years the Fever will compete for a title. You have to give Sides some grace because she is outside her comfort zone. She’s also young. Sides also went in the lab and consulted with the Golden state warriors over their 5 day break a few weeks ago. CC is now playing a lot like Steph. They are helping her get off of these tough defenders.

No, watch the game again. The 1st & 4th quarters are the same style. People are not analyzing the games just repeating the same tslking points. In Q1 Fever was pushing up the pace constantly, credit to the Lynx defense because they were always a step ahead. Also notice how this time there isnt a defender pressuring Clark full court, defense pressure was always past the half court, its harder to have successful fast brakes this way.
@Rdkng07
@Rdkng07 Ай бұрын
@@Refreshment01 No, I just finshed watching the game again. The first quarter is not wide open, faster than the 2nd and 3rd, but not full speed. In fact Sides pulled Clark out and told her to SLOW IT DOWN. Lynx is a good defensive team, especially against Sides's slow grind ball. It gave them plenty of time to set up.
@Refreshment01
@Refreshment01 Ай бұрын
@@Rdkng07 Clarck was pull out after that logo 3 that put the fever behind 5 points. The team got the game closer with Clark benched, which was a couple of minutes anyway. Theres no difference between 1st & 4th offence play styles. Notice the Fever constantly tries to push the pace but Lynx defence keeps up. So what changed 4th Q? 1) Notice the Fever defense is actualy good. 2) Clark herself is far more aggressive when taking the ball near the basket. 3) Fever players where actually connecting shots. Examples, Samuelson drive to the basket with clock runing out which is an unplanned play and a rarity. Mitchel quick layup after CC bricks an actual open 3.

@@Refreshment01 Ya, Clark put up a brick, but you make it sound like she's the only one missing open 3s. Gotta hate I guess. Good thing Clark was back to point guard in the 4th and scored 10 points in that quarter alone. I stand by my analysis, you can think whatever makes you feel better. Clark leads the entire league in combined points, I guess that's shit too.

As an old guy who has discovered real basketball in the W and particularly the Fever I agree with almost all of your analysis. As we used to say SPEED KILLS. I’m glad you gave Aliyah Boston some recognition at the end of your video. Without her solid, almost dominant play we would have been behind 15 in the fourth instead of 7. I also appreciate your even handed treatment of Christy Sides. The play she drew up th start the fourth was exactly what they needed. She is learning just like the rest of the team and she is getting better. It is notable that on a night when Clark had a sub par game, the fever beat one of the top teams in the league. Every coach in the league should take note. I really like the starting lineup of Clark, Mitchel, Boston, Smith and Samuelson with Hull as the Sixth with lots of minutes and the ability to infuse intensity when it’s needed. When Fagbenle returns she will have significant minutes as well. This type of rotation keeps fresher legs because SPEED KILLS.

This analysis is spot on. When Clark pays her natural game the opposition are always at a disadvantage. She will find a way as long as her team go along with her. It does not matter who gets the baskets. When Sides interferes with the flow it is a disaster, and we have seen that demonstrated only too often. Maybe the coach should merely concentrate on rotating her players just enough to keep them fresh and up to pace. Wheeler should go. She is in the wrong team.

Just a solid analysis. And yes, Boston is playing well and Mitchell forced in the first half and not so much in the second half and made a huge defensive play. I only want to say that Caitlin's next step is to be able to play in a slowed-down offense. Playoffs and against certain teams, Caitlin has to figure out ways to break down the defense to get buckets. I think she's keeping her dribble alive better now, maybe improved her behind the back ball handling move some, so she's not picking up her dribble so much like she was earlier in the season. Her next level to get to is play well in a slower offense, shoot midrange shots, get floaters from both sides of the floor with the aim of finishing with her off hand.

I don't care if Angel Reese bats eyelashes. What Sides and teammates of CC need to understand is CC is the General on the court. CC must touch the ball every possession. No one else.

Enjoy your Gever analysis. What I know about BB is a timble-full compared to your swimming pool. I always go back to comparing Fever to Hawkeyes cause that's all I know about CC basketball. This game seems like some Iowa games - Clark not playing well then: boom Clark drops a 3. Then feeds a teaming for 3. Then boom the magic happens. Fever needs players to step up from game to game. In other words, Fever will do well when the leading scorer isn't always Clark.

You can not tell me that Sides doesn’t know that the Fever play better when they push the ball , so why does she insist to slow it down? Why?
@nancyrispoli7010
@nancyrispoli7010 Ай бұрын
Sides has developed (per body language & comments) an intense anger, rage even, toward CC, and now hates the mere presence of her & what she represents... her fast play style & MVP skill-set, a BB IQ higher than her coach's, and a massive fanbase that shines a spotlight on her overwhelmed & incompetent HC, w/ millions witnessing & criticizing her blundering decisions, wounding her narcissistic Ego. That's why we often see coach in-game grabbing & pulling CC's arm, shouting at her, then sabotaging her game... all so as to maintain control, i.e. power, over her own hopeless & powerless situation. The irony is that Side's attempts to control her own favorable "image" & legacy are thwarted by her own emotional triggers of rage & fear to the point of being willing to punish CC on the court & consequently lose games. And there IS no resolution to the increasingly harmful & negative discourse btw coach & player, so long as Sides (even inwardly) takes NO responsibility for her foundational character defects.

Because it will work better for team in long run.. these teams are just bsing around.. once they sit an gameplan they gonna make fever a half court team so she’s trying to prepare them.. same way when she switches lineups it’s to fix the spacing and defense with what she has …. sides is doing a good job for the hand that she is dealt

First right or wrong you do great on analyzing these games. My belief on Clark not doing hot would be Reeve having different players on Clark being close enough to ride Clark's back. Reeve even admitted putting different players on Clark. I also saw where Reese shown a bit more respect for Clark. I did see her speak about the fans telling the other leagues it is what it is and except such. Like what is better a million-dollar gate or half that amount. What is night and day from the Fever playing would be the coach (at times) and players are not playing with Clark outside the box meaning once Clark brings down the ball and passes Clark most never have the ball back. When I am seeing Smith and Mitchell passing the ball to Clark several times in a game this is a huge difference from the beginning. Also, back a few games in a fourth quarter Clark went wild not caring about Sides ideas or the team not playing with her, I believe this set a tone letting Clark be the leader. These pass few wins have been more of a team win than a luck win. Beating Liberty, Mercury twice, and Lynx no matter some players are out this would not have happened earlier in the season.

10:51: Boston played as a natural Center vs. the Lynx and also vs. Phoenix right after Griner was out. But she can't do that all the time, because she's not big enough or strong enough. When confronting giants, it's much better that she plays as a forward.

Yes, Angel Reese shouldn’t be compared to a player like CC. Angel should look at some Tim Duncan Mr. Fundamentals. It just amazes me players don’t use the backboard more. Angel #1 always comes down with the ball instead of learning to shoot simultaneously. Drills in the off season learning to rebound and while in the air shoot it , don’t come down with the ball. Tap drills at every angle!Also backboard shots in the paint is also something she should practice. I believe Sheryl Swoopes noticed those deficiencies saying she wished Angel stayed in College one more year.

I have to say early on in the year i was fully on board with Sides being a terrible coach, but shes actually pretty decent. Like any coach she had a particular style she wanted but to her credit she changed it up on a dime to fit around her superstar and now Indiana is playing Hawkeye/Golden State esque. Yes there is still growing pains, obviously but the promise is really starting to show how good the offense can be. That Lynx defense they torched in the 4th is legit
@timbabcock7645
@timbabcock7645 Ай бұрын
You missed a lot. When Mitchell shoots and misses she’s a ball hog. Cc was 5 for 17 (29%), so what does that make her? The lynx took the pick and roll away. They were playing tight man to man and playing the perimeter tight. So what did Sides do? She ran a 3-guard set and over the ball around the perimeter with crisp passes to take advantage of what the lynx defense was giving them: the paint. Boston and in part, Smith had a big 1st half keeping the Fever in the game. The Lynx had to adjust and clog the paint more in the 2nd half. This left the perimeter more open. CC still missed but Mitchell came up big. As for pushing the pace. You have to have numbers. Running up the court when the defense has already set accomplished nothing. The Lynx got back on defense. To have a fast break you have to have one of three things happening: 1) A defense caught napping. 2) A long rebound. 3) A turnover These all create the possibility of numbers ( 2 on 1’s, 3 on 2’s) You can’t just “push the pace” The numbers have to be there and 5 on 5 ain’t it.

I agree with your analysis. CC is a great player, but she was out of control several times. Bad behind the back passes, trying to get the ball where it wouldn't go. As u said, she was trying to play too fast when it wasn't there. She did recover and have a good 4th. KM, who I'm usually a bit critical of, kept them in the game. CC needs alot of work on her defensive game... but sure she's beat from college schedule, then straight to WNBA. It's exciting to see if this team can make the playoffs!!
