Hi guys, we're very sorry for the incovenience. Im sure thats not a scam, its just miscommunication as the driver misunderstood between Palace and missed the water u ve mentioned. So he stopped u two near the Sultan main Palace. I think probably bcoz of your british accent, and u spoke very fast. ;") American english is very common in our country, and sometimes british accent isnt easy to be understood clearly and freshly ;). Anyway, enjoy your Indonesia trip. And welcome to Jogja! ❤🎉

Using google translate will be a great help. It's okay if the sentences is wrong, since the indonesian will understand it from the important words. It's better than getting miscommunication.

Well, while in Jogja maybe you should try going to Hamzah Batik. They have a short Batik Course there, and on their upper floor, there is a cafe which turns into a fantastic drag queens' show at night.

Indonesia has hundreds of different cultures. What you are experiencing is central Javanese culture. Still some a few hundreds to go. Good luck.

There are many varians for bakpia nowadays with chocolate, cheese, durian, etc. I think you have to try the original one that called bakpia basah. So the texture is different. It's not dry like pastry like what you eat in the video. And the original fill with mung beans. That's the real bakpia.

He didn't understand the water palace.... they called it taman sari, and as typically Indonesian, when they dont understand, they always say yes and nod their head. As foreigners with the yes and nod, you take it as affirmation of understanding😂

You can definitely eat streat fried rice without soy souce, i myself dont like soy sause on my fried rice so i always order 13k fried rice w/out soy sayce

Be carefull with the touristy place like Yogya, just like Bangkok or HCM theres so many scam especially for transport like tuktuk becak/rickshaw etc. Looks like the rickshaw man doesnt even understand Water Palace is. Just say Taman Sari instead of Water Palace. The driver in Yogya most of them dont understand even basic english.

As a local, i'm really shemed by that ricksaw driver. it's their old trick, when people ask to point A they just nod, but they do deliver you to wrong location intentionally to gain more $$$... saying, oh i thought you want to this location... bla bla bla... me and my mom facing this scam not only once. just be careful. kalian para pebecak nakal : MALU WOI
