Ray Ward was a member of the RAN aboard a ship that you can research yourself. I met him whilst working at Groote Eylandt manganese mine, the photo was a huge mushroom and I mean huge. He took the photo. He told me that the entire crew was on board and were told to turn their backs until they felt the pressure wave pass then look. He took a photo that should be in a museum. ... yes, they are more powerful now but still.....

@@alf3071 Plants consume oxygen as well, but they do generate net oxygen. But it depends on leaf illumination. During nuclear apocalypse sun won't be exactly in abundance. So the plants will actually consume more oxygen than generate.

I worked in HVAC, the outdoor portion of your a/c, otherwise known as the compressor unit, does not pull air from outside, it compresses the freon in your system and pushes it through a "choke-pont" inside the line, converting the liquid freon into vapor, and in the process causing it to cool rapidly. Think of any time a compressed can of anything, when rapidly decompressed cools extremely fast and even freezes. Anyway, this vaporized freon is then moving through the coils of the indoor unit, otherwise known as the air handler, and the blower of the air handler pulls your indoor air through the indoor filter and blows your now cooled indoor air, through the vents. Do with this information, what you will. That's the most basic rundown of what's going on, and how it works the air. In US this might be probably less of an issue for most of the people. Still unaccounted ventilation might prove to be a unforeseen problem. I, for example, have an air vent that is going from my bathroom directly up to the roof. It's good to know these things and act on them, otherwise you risk contamination. That was my point, windows are one thing, but not a whole picture. It's good to have this solved beforehand, or at least be aware of air flow in your particular house. In a panic, you might not be able to think about such things. Of course I hope, this won't be needed. Ever.

Most people will survive and won’t be affected. They also won’t be living in a wasteland. If you have enough food and water, and can survive the first 3-6 months, you can check the land for safety, grow your own food, and get together with other survivors and live on!

As stated in the video, that would depend on the extent of the nuclear attack. A full-scale nuclear exchange between the U.S. and Russia would be much more catastrophic than a terrorist detonating a single nuclear bomb, with the latter situation having a good chance of outside assistance.

tp be honest it never went away. I served on Trident missile capable, nuclear powered submarine USS Florida SSBN-728, from 1999 to 2002 (and then on nuclear powered fast attack submarine USS Asheville SSN-758, 2002-2003). It's not classified that our main mission was "strategic deterrence" because the other side never stopped sending their boats out. Of course, at any given time, I can never confirm nor deny the presence of a nuclear warhead on the boat at that time. Florida has since been converted to SSGN (conventional tomahawk missiles replacing the Trident missile capability). The difference was that when the Soviet Union fell, Russia was not as overtly hostile as the USSR was...but still isn't our friend and neither is China. But yeah we have been on a hair trigger against both the whole time. You can't really have a non-hair trigger if you want the ability to retaliate and stop further attacks. And now we have added possibility of non-state actors (terrorists) as well as India and Pakistan. I never liked it, I wanted a fast attack submarine. It would be best if all the nuclear powers sat down and agreed to disable all nuclear arms in a short amount of time, within one Presidential Administration...but it's hard to see it happening 😞
