Thank you- I recently returned to my gym pickle ball club after 8 months living/playing in a very competitive PB area of the country and discovered that the 3.5's here are really just banging the ball at each other (talking mixed doubles). This really helped me make the adjustment! PS: subscribed when I saw you on Pickleball Summit 2022. Great presentation!

Thank you for the valuable tips. Making solid contact to keep the ball low especially at the feet is the high percentage shot. It's true it's harder when both teams are at NVZ. In that case middle can be the better target so anticipating hard shot is key but a challenge to implement.

I love to play against bangers. In fact I taunt them..lol! I use physics to beat them. The easiest points from 'flying out' points BUT against a higher rank player it will be different approach. You are right bangers love pop up floats, this gives their partner the follow up put away shot. ( Shake n bake).

Thanks for the Banger video. One problem I am trying to overcome with bangers on serve and hard returns are low hard shots with spin that stay down and skid. I’ve tried staying low and moving in to catch after 1st contact and backing up to give more time. Keeping eye on ball to paddle etc. Some of these guys seem to generate power and effortlessly. Kinetic chain,I know, but it’s hard for me to see it coming, although I know it is. I am a the place where I can hit a deep high loopy return. Survival! Any ideas?

The #1 weapon against bangers that you need to work on is reset...reset...reset. Have a partner stand in the transition zone and nail balls at you and work on blocking them back down into the kitchen. Also get an idea at what height on your body to let balls go. Usually if a banger hits a ball hard up to my shoulders it's going to go out. If I'm in the transition zone then it's my waist. The best part is the more you frustrate a banger the harder they try to hit and the more mistakes they will make.

Before play starts, knowing I'm going up against a banger or bangers, I will ask my partner to watch where ball lands behind each other because I will 'let it fly' 60% against bangers. I will tell them when the player hitting that drive is around transition zone, chances are that hard drive will 75% be OUT, so keep an eye.

The problem is NOT drives from the baseline, which you are showing. The problem is shootouts at the kitchen line. HOW to tame bullets from the kitchen? Cannot force a dinking battle because the Shootout at the OK Corral can't be stopped!

It may be different where you play, but where I am I rarely encounter bangers. There are a lot of drivers, maybe 20 drivers for every banger. And tactics to play against drivers is very different from bangers. Maybe you're lumping drivers and bangers into one category?

I'm a B/C at racquetball and an A/B at ping-pong. The strongest part of my game is backhand grip "blocking/dink/return" so bangers hate me. Go practice on a ping-pong table to get the quick, flat-aspect racket speed you need.

@@heavenlypickler To my understanding as you begin to play people with more skill just banging it will not work. They will be very good at blocking, so you will need to mix it up and learn the third shot drop. Until then, bang all you want. It's not your fault the other player is not good enough yet to handle it.

I played a little collegiate tennis many years ago, mainly doubles, and have played a lot of ping pong, so I think I come across like you do to the opponents. I was recently referred to as a banger, which really isn't my play style, in my opinion. If they make it to the kitchen line I generally hit third shot drops, but if they're back I do hit drives to keep them back. I don't think that makes me a true banger. So what did I do when I was called out? Not too much differently, other than using that knowledge to make more unpredictable shots. I hit more offensive lobs and drop shots when opponents were not at the kitchen line. Misdirection was a bit easier with that knowledge, as they were more often expecting hard volleys and drives. Maybe I should have mentioned I play Texas Hold 'em, too, hahah!

If the “banger” is a tennis player this won’t help much. Tennis players drill half volleys every day. The REAL solution to deal with pace, is not to try to exclusively play junk ball. Being a junk baller will be effective at lower levels just like tennis. But you need to be able to handle pace and re-direct it back. If you’re taking a shot with a lot of pace that’s a lot less energy you have to put I to your shot. It is vital to learn how to hit over the ball with topspin to do this if you are really looking to advance. Dinking is going to go away, sorry

Facts. Yessss someone else noticed. If you block d1 tennis players or even good hs player from tennis, those blocks he did are coming back faster. Especially popping the ball that high up on the block. The only way to stop good tennis players is play doubles and don’t hit to them lol. Or use dink game and make sure ball bounces in kitchen while being low
