Believe it or not, the founder's shores book market is one of the biggest draws in the city. A lot of the books were made with the paper from the city's original paper mill that was the pride of Verde Beach back in the beginning. The book store actually connects under the street allowing shoppers to view all the collectors grade inventory in both buildings without having to go outside. There is even an ultra rare book vault.

Loving the redevelopment! One tiny, TINY thing I would suggest: At the 33:26-ish mark you show off the new wall-to-wall along the waterfront area, and I couldn't help but think that it could use a couple of cut-throughs, probably in line with the streets heading down to the water. It would break up the street wall a little and allow pedestrian access without going all the way around. Always happy to see Verde Beach!

Here in California we've got a bunch of mixed use & historic residential right up to some of the beach & many of them have those exact sort of cut throughs. Usually they're little alleys that are meant as residential/service ways that end in dead in at the beach but spend most of their traffic ends up being pedestrians & cyclists.

P&P is a really cool and fun DLC, but it further emphasizes a current problem with the game that I don't think many are talking about: We need more dlc parity (such as making Universities work with P&P). As a side note, the Seaside Resort CCP came with a small fire station (which kind of looks like a church), a small police station, and (an asset I think you could use a lot in VB, as well as other cities) a small library. They are in their own separate CCP tab in the menus.
@NCXDesigns
@NCXDesigns Жыл бұрын
The issue is, they programmed the game to use districts to do the Campus/Park Life/ P&P / WtW buildings. Which leads to the bigger problem, you can't have mixed district styles. I'm wondering if this is a glimpse into what may be in store for CS2. Better AI and a better way to mark what you want to spawn in areas. I think they should have allowed you to mark them based on your zoning marking and then select what you want in those grid blocks (kinda like a policy/building theme selector). I also think we are starting to see the limits of what the game can do nearly 8 years after release, so hopefully CS2 is coming sooner than later.

I've seen that the service points are very picky they like a lot of extra vehicles. Check the garbage truck usage at your service points, it may need to be increased to collect all the trash. It doesn't matter if you have overall capacity, it's specific to the ped districts

Hi Phil - just thanking you once again for putting out yet another fantastic episode and as always you have done a great job with both the district and the landscaping. however, whilst the pedestrian path added that links the sunset district to the farmers market looks great - it does go right in front of the Hospital - more specifically the emergency entrance - which given the size of the hospital would be very VERY busy - thus whilst the ambulances can drive on the pedestrian paths as you know, it would be very dangerous especially with the large amount of vehicles driving on the path, thus I personally think it would be best if you put the path in front of the hospital ER entrance back to a road (or something along those lines) so that ambulances and other vehicles can drive on the road both quickly and safely (but still keep the pedestrian paths on the other roads as they do look great) - idk just a suggestion and something that I would consider. Great video still as always and can't wait for the next video 👍👍👍

What the campus dlc needs is a facilities building for power, water, or waste management. What major campus doesn't have that?!?! Love the rework of the university because it's now got two main avenues that intersect at the heart of the campus. Also, the alignment of the buildings now makes the whole place look like a well-planned location - which college campuses are. I agree that a campus shouldn't need to have local roads through it. Unless it's a campus that's had to grow in the midst of a city (like UM Baltimore or MSU in Denver) campuses are tangent to, but not integrated into the local traffic grid.

Something I'd love to be able to do in Cities Skylines is to add new district themes to a district, but have an option to only allow it to change if the building upgrades, that way you can get a natural evolution of an area, and make some buildings historical if you want to keep them. Especially some themes I feel become overwhelming if you blanket zone them, like the new Content Creator Pack theme. Awesome houses, but only in moderation.

This plazas and promenades pack reminds me a lot of the vacation I took this summer to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. 5th Avenue there is a completely pedestrian street for almost the length of the city, and there are all types of shops and restaurants there and in the areas immediately surrounding 5th. There were also a few streets that were not necessarily pedestrian only, but were very pedestrian oriented due to the proximity to the beach, and the pedestrian roads with the trees in the middle always bring Ave CTM to my mind, where we stayed!

A lot of the problem is the use of specialised zones for theming. If you want wall-to-wall residential or green-residential or whatever, you need to tag the district... and that forces anything that's not wall-to-wall residential to be destroyed, hence these fiddly-little micro-districts that CPP and others use. Done through a theme manager, it'd be much cleaner... you just create the district originally under one theme, then change the theme over time, using historic status to protect older buildings you want to keep.

1 you forgot to upgrade the path behind your hospital (unless that is intentional) 2 you could pedestrianize (some of) the sideroads of your transit corridor if you want to cut down on stops. most of them are quite short so it would probably look natural. you'd lose some connectivity across your transit corridor but that can be solved by leaving only a single regular (with the rest bein pedestran roads) road between two stops to prevent the bus pathfinding unintended route while preserving some vehicle connectivity across. it could take some trial and error to get the correct effect but it's worth it.

For those of you interested in why this happens "8:28" . The game has 2 categories of roads, normal and pathways. Pathways do not have zoning while standard roads do. In campus and all dlc that have the purple zoning it allows ploppable objects to have their service points moved to the primary building of that zone. For campus the administrative building would be the primary. With the new pedestrian roads and pedestrian zones this feature is toggled to correct the problem for buildings that don't have a primary "27:51" Deliver everything. In short, with every campus, a building on a pedestrian road will have it's services still cared for by the administrative building. Which you can see does have a normal road connection "2:03". So watch for garbage to come through and see the other buildings tied to the campus become happy. (Double check that the garbage truck that does show up has the capacity to collect for all the building(s). If not you may need a waste transfer facility closer that can accommodate that area.)

Aw, you only preserved two of the bookstores. Part of the fun of that whole scenario was that there was a book store on three corners of the intersection, not just that one was across the road from another. As for what vehicles are allowed, I'd wager that the vacuum trucks fall under the "emergency vehicle" umbrella of what's allowed on the pedestrian roads, whereas delivery and garbage trucks are programmed to explicitly not go on the roads and only function with service points. Part of the issue then is what buildings properly interact with pedestrian roads and service points, as it seems that's not universal. Hopefully they'll add updates to makes the various DLCs and such play nicer with each other so their aren't as many niche quirks that you have to work around. For the bus route though, did you try removing all the stop points from that area and then re-adding them to see if it still does that weird detour road shift? It looked like there was a jump cut in there so I'm not sure if that was a part of the fix attempts. For your pedestrian area garbage issues, that may be a service point issue, not a landfill issue. The service points determine how many garbage trucks (as well as delivery trucks) you have servicing the area, especially if you have "deliver everything". Yes, you placed the "large service point", but have you actually checked it to see the trucks in use and capacity?

I love the redevelopment, in particular the pedestrian street along the waterline. I think the bus only road is not working, is slowing down buses. It has a top speed of 20, it might work better as a regular street.

About the little islands in the river. Ever thought about connecting them with pedestrian paths put some amenities on them. Turn it into park or nature reserve call it Stepstones or something

Some of the residential buildings CPP chose to preserve looks like some family restaurant that you would still see in high-density areas so it does make sense to keep them, though it's not functioning as a restaurant.

Keep the madison Area. It is named after the Founder "Phil" who founded verde Beach in 2020. As every one knows he lives in Madison in the great state of wisconsin. So it is a great name i guess :)

Saving a few one tile homes and have them next or near skyscrapers would be interesting. it would be like how New York has the occasional old Gilded Age manor here and there in the city back in the day.

Hi Phil, been watching since Ep 1 but never been up to date enough to comment! Seems like it definitely worth checking if there is a Waste Transfer Facility near this new district. Obviously a few episodes ago you moved a lot of the rubbish recycling into a services facility that wasn't in the main city so perhaps it's just too far for the rubbish lorries to travel currently? Also, was there a post office in this new district? With the new use of pedestrian roads it'd be likely there'd be a Post Office within walking distance for pedestrians not wanting to use cars. Finally, a clarification: the new office, residential, and commercial buildings constructed along the shoreline would not have any regular road access. I don't know how that affects NPC behaviour since they'd only be able to walk/cycle to their jobs? Maybe having a tourist/arcade specialisation would make sense along the quay wall as would be common in many cities globally? Thanks for all your effort and the huge amount of work you put into community suggestions and feedback, it really makes it feel like a combined effort

I might be wrong but I believe campus’s deal with trash the same way pedestrian areas do except it is done through the main building - the first one you place. I believe this building needs to be on a road I have definitely seen (in the past week or so) a campus main building in my city have the “trash is piling up” notification and I do not own the Plaza’s DLC.

Great build this week. Small piece of feedback would be that the neighborhood would benefit from a few tree lines streets instead of all grass lined. Plenty of new road options to try.

I never knew of a Panda enclosure. All captive Pandas, in real life, must be rented from China for 1 million dollars a year. That's a big investment for a zoo/city. it would be cool if they incorporated that high expense into the game. It truly is a status symbol for your zoo.

I think the rebuild in the area looks and fits better now. I agree mid-rises were missing and sorely needed. It feels funny because you're doing it all at once but it is something you're simulating that has actually developed over the years since the city began. As for the trash problem at the University, isn't there a policy in the district you have to enact with pedestrian roads to make all buildings in the area use the service points for garbage and goods? I believe you pointed on it in this episode at 27:55 but didn't activate it, called Delivery Everything. Try that at the University. It is probably why garbage trucks don't use those roads.

I think it would be very neat to see how City Planner would make a Commercial Park zone. Often, here in the midwest, we see parks along the rivers, including in the office zones. I have seen quite a few interesting designs of these office parks, and I wonder what that would look like within city skylines.

Nice changes. I'm not a fan of the new plaza hack. But the some of the assets are super cool. Schools, metro stations, utilities, and the train stations are worth the pack for me. But I won't use the service point areas unless I build an entertainment district. The game will pull service vehicles from all over the map unless you use Transfer Controller to assign them districts.

I think it would be fun to have a "Planning & Zoning meeting" with us here on KZfaq. Basically you can propose a new area (doesn't have to be Verde Beach) and we can all chime in on opinion BEFORE the build. You can have "board members" from your Discord and we can be "citizens" from the city. Basically you can set it up where you can make a video describing a few plans you have for the city, release that video, and we can then submit feedback in a video format and then you can do a mock P&Z meeting where you go over the plans and then edit in videos where people gave feedback. Then you can have a vote via the board to approve or disapprove the plan etc. I think it would be fun to see. I go to all our P&Z and city council meetings in my small town. Would be cool to see at least one via KZfaq land. :)

You should have the two bookstores across from each other a family rivalry gone haywire! Like one sibling wanted to run it one way and the other another way and they both refuse to sell until one of them admits that their way is the best way to run a bookstore.
