The alpha thing is a myth. But yes, Belgian Malinois need to work and need a lot of training. If they do not have enough outlets for their high stimulation both physical and mental they will become very reactive and destructive. It has nothing to be with being “an alpha” and everything to do with providing structure, leadership, and patience.

I went the opposite route n got a Siberian Husky and man she makes me question why I spend 1700 but I finally got her to listen ish 😂

I’ve been bit by one of these dogs before, it was my family member’s dog and it wasn’t trained properly but the bit was really bad it but my arm twice and wouldn’t let go. I also didn’t do anything to provoke the dog it just ran at me as soon as it saw me and I put my arm out so it wouldn’t get to my face

Not true. Very intelligend breed with a high drive to please. Training is like playing to them. Takes me 15 to 30 minutes to learn my Mali a comand till he does it perfectly. We litarly ran out of comands 😅 so we taught him how to open doors both ways and turn keys. He litarly can open the cardoor😂. ( you knever knew when you are not able to do that anymore and need it. Our fave comand is "Kill" hes charging up to the "victim" then licks his hand 😂. We did teach him "watch" wich makes him bark like a maniack at the target. Because dangerous and my niece is often walking him. Want her to be save and all. He finds my carkeys. Brings me the remote hell he carries everything i tell him to pick up. Dude is an angel. They just need exersise and worktime or anything to do. Ours loves searching things with his nose. He litarly finds everything. Bf build him an entire course in our backyard😂

Actually, they're easier to train than their cousin(G.S.D.). It's part of the reason they've become so popular with all the various services.

One of the malinois i had was really different with the mindset and all. You couldnt really get close to it, but it was also the smallest one in the herd, and the brothers and sisters of that herd weren’t exactly “nice”

Malinouis need a good handler and a job! They have so much energy and drive they have to be handled carefully. After that movie with the Mal in it(as happens alot when certain breeds appear in movies) and a flood of basically fur mommy types and novice dog owners bought Mals. But, as usual the dogs suffer and end up in shelters.Without proper training, excercise and supervision , they become destructive,aggressive and out of control. Please,educate yourself before you get a Mal, American Pit Bull Terrier or any breed with the drive and breeding to become a problem because you are not qualified to properly train these working breeds.

As a pet sitter, I’ve found that most people don’t seem to train their dogs much at all, regardless of breed… Needless to say I’ll be making the switch over to dog training soon as I don’t get paid enough to deal with people’s untrained dogs 😂 At least it’s helped me realize just how good a boy my dog is

That is why the US military uses them as attack dog's, and scent tracker's. Their intelligence is top 5 or 10 of all dog breed's. A famous belgian malinois in the military lost his k9 teeth, from a terrorist hitting it. And they implanted stainless steel teeth. This breed need's a highly experienced owner with good skills at training it, not all breed's can be trained the same way either. And they need extensive exercise to. Their literally meat missiles with teeth, so a terrible owner will get one euthanized.

This is why I chose a Rottie over a Maligator lol… We’re active as hell when we want to be but we also love lazy days on the couch

They are smart..but not the smartest.. that title goes to the German shepherd..I have both breeds and they both have their strong points.. athletic/high drive/eager to work/easy to train/very focused on it's surroundings are the mals strong suits..but.. obsessive compulsive behavior/inappropriate response to situations/unable to be a good all rounder/unable to function as a team with more than one dog/quickly will shut down if any discipline is used/too much barking to be an effective residential protection dog/chewing and mutilating themselves if not constantly stimulated..geez Should I continue? the German shepherd is the king 👑 ..he has none of these defects.

@@mr.heylel666 short service life is the reason many PD's started going with the Mal..the German shepherd can be worked from about 2 to 6 or 7ish..the mal can go to 9 years old and less HEALTH problems..but you get so much more dog with the gsd many are going right back to the gsd because of the reasons I listed in my original comment.

I sent my dog to a board and train program for a week at 3.5 Mo and 5.5 months old. Best thing I ever did. Just today I was able to let her out at a gas station like this to go potty and didn’t have to worry about her running away or not getting back inside. Most people don’t realize the first six months of a puppy’s life they’re like sponges, take them everywhere and show them everything. You’ll be so thankful for that initial investment in training and socializing

This dog is completely out of control. Not clear headed at all. Had to tell her down 4 times. Need to work on her impulse control. Yes, I am a Malinois owner and trainer.

Between 2-8mnths is actually the most necessary & beneficial time for all training. Especially elite working dogs. By 12mnths of age. A dog will be completely trained in all aspects important to their alpha human.. That pup clearly is 100% trained in all commands important to the owner/ handler im guessing...

Hard breed to handle. I have a 6 month old and her energy levels have tripled in the last month. A lot of time and effort into training them compared to other dogs. But they are the smartest damn dogs.

My neighbors had a Belgian rescue and were almost 70. A couple of us neighbors had a pool bet on how long they would have her. After about 4 months their son took her to keep. They need a dam job and dedication

My sister got a Mal recently but she’s at work most the day. So it falls on me to take care of it all day. This dog can play fetch non-stop for 5 hours. I’ve done it. No breaks whatsoever, no slowing down even. It’s insane

it's not so much the excitement, malanois' are just like this. they're extremely energetic 24/7 with or without a motive placed in front of them. they are a very highly intelligent breed with a pure-hearted purpose to please & protect their handlers. belgium malanois' AKA the fur missile. this is just how they are. it's in the blood.

The fact that this dog behaves like this for this man shows that he did his research and puts in the time. It’s not just any pup, they’re one of the most common to be given up to rescues and put down in shelters, right next to the husky for the same reason.
