They all have impressive abilities. Mitch and Avi (the bass) both instantly make your jaw drop because their voices are beyond what you would expect them to be physically capable of. Most men would struggle to sing countertenor or basso profondo, but these guys just roll out of bed, it seems, and do it. Scott's voice doesn't get as much attention at first, but actually he's my favorite because he's got the power to do just about anything he wants to with his voice. Tenor, bass, smooth, raspy, whatever, and I think he must have a V8 engine in his diaphragm to put that kind of power into his singing. Kirsty usually favors a high, ringing soprano, but she can go low and sultry too. Her voice on this song cuts like a sword. And Kevin's beatboxing is astounding. What kind of physical control he must have, over every single muscle in his face and throat, to pull off that clean, crisp sound. He has a nice singing voice as well, though not a powerhouse voice. He does take a solo now and then. He also plays cello, while beatboxing. Just crazy.

Avi's bass deserves some props too. You can feel it rumble through you and it's the perfect balance to Mitch's high notes!

Definitely react to The Prayer. Mitch is out of this world in that one. You will need two or more towels for that one. Really enjoyed your reaction.💕💕

There are usually 3 or 4 "slaps" that happen to first-time viewers of this video. First, when Avi starts singing his low bass in the first Hallelujah chorus. Second, when Kirstie starts belting the 2nd half of her solo verse. Third, when Mitch starts singing, and just keeps going higher and higher. And fourth, the final note of the song, where Avi again hits an amazing low note during the humming. Mitch-slaps don't stop coming - his performance in The Prayer (from late 2021) still amazes me to this day!

I loved your reaction. You said it, you're just scratching the surface. The best part of PTX is that even when you expect to get blown over, it still amazes you. And yes, Mitch's unique vocals will never stop taking you by surprise. Every one of these artists are worthy of a wildly successful solo career (and they all do have solo work you should check out), but they choose to prioritize Pentatonix, blessing our ears by sticking together.

A good one to watch is the live version of Hallelujah because you can see Scott take over the bass from Avi while Avi sings. They made the transition so smoothly.

Congratulations on recognizing that Mitch isn't even stretching to get to those high notes. Mitch is what they call a natural counter tenor. Unlike a trained counter tenor, he didin't have to train his voice to reach those notes. He sings in that range naturally. Yup, Mitch is a singular talent. If you want to hear Kirstie really sing, I recommend "Say Something." That's where I fell in love with her voice. Also falling in love with your reactions, btw...

My first Mitch slap was way back when they first started as contestants on an acapella show called The Sing Off in 2011. They did a cover of Dog Days Are Over by Florence and The Machine that is phenomenal!

You need to listen to their version of "Bohemian Rapsody." Mitch not only sings, but he does a guitar. Kevin is spectacular as usual. All of them are. It is a visual and auditory treasure.

They even hum amazingly!!!

Mitch Grassi is a Counter-tenor singing 6 octaves higher than most people worldwide. This is a recorded fact.

The arranger is Ben Bram, who has been with them since their Sing Off days. A couple of voice teachers online who have analyzed PTX say that the impressive part of Mitch's performances is how wide and effective his mix is. It sounds like you're already starting to pick their individual voices out of their harmonies. The part where they all go crazy in harmonies at the end is what Pentaholics call the group's "wall of sound." You will hear it in a lot of of their more anthemic pieces. Subscribed for more Pentatonix! This group got me through the pandemic lockdown.

It’s a 15 minute video, that is live with perfect mic balance and 3 of the 4 songs on it are originals the first 2 really highlight Scott, with an unbelievable Mitch slap thrown in, the 3rd song is their Michael Jackson medley where they ALL shine and then it’s rounded off with Water, which Kirstie really shines, she’s the lead and she write the song, it’s phenomenal. Please please watch it, it is still my favorite video out of over 200+ that I’ve seen of Pentatonix, although now that I’ve seen them live…. But truly it’s my favorite video of all time. And then react to The Prayer, another one where they all shine. For me it’s like a spiritual experience.

first time i discovered pentatonix was in the very end of the year as well (2016?) new years eve day i even think it was where i watched a documentary of them before id even heard any music - and i rememeber thinking well they just saved my whole year lmaoo. theyre insanely talented, can never get enough of Avis voice (bass) especially, it takes me places

Hallelujah is certainly their most viewed video. It came out in late 2016. They already had Grammy's in 2015 for "Daft Punk Medley" and 2016 for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy". They are also insane.

Just subscribed because I love your energy!! PTX's "Evolution of" videos always give me a slap (from all members, not just Mitch, although his slap is always the hardest haha). These videos are one-take live performances in a studio setting that never fail to amaze me.
