I always wanted a SOG pentagon fixed blade when I was younger. The small one with the rounded over pommel. Yep, for those that remember it, it means I'm old 😅 But in all the knives I've acquired over the years, I own one SOG. A terminus in cryo damascus that I got on sale for 60 bucks. Love the cross lock but the T6 pivot is the reason I never got the pentagon folder. Great video brother 👍

You should get a SOG FLK STOUT. It's the only SOG I have and I absolutely love it! Framelock Cryo D2 steel. I always wanted a Gerber Mark II and finally aquired several so I know what you mean about the SOG Pentagon... Beautiful knives. 😀

The funny thing is that hole in the back is so the knife could accept the hideous fold over clip style that SOG uses on the terminus xr and some other models. They literally put the slit in the butt and put the screw holes and then used a different clip then never redesigned that area🤯🤦♂️

Cryo is mainly supposed to convert retained austenite to martensite, so the blade does not microchip upon contact. Increased hardness is but a (beneficial) side effect.

man I'm not even gonna hide it I just love the damn XR lock. It's one of the cheapest ways into a crossbar lock and I love the feel on the SOG Got my hands on a Benchmade osborn too recently and that feels A LOT more refined but the SOG just has that clacky flicky feel, kinda cheap but reminds me of old mechanical interaction with old school gear and is just really nice to me. Hence my preference for the SOG lock

"how funny of me to say those things" - you crack me up dude. agreed 100% about your thoughts on the TAC. i love SOG, hate to say it but i am a complete fan boy for them. my EDC knife is the TAC auto (tanto) and i love that. would like the lanyard hole out of the way so the clip can be pushed further to the edge.' Terminus XR XL... that would be perfect

After getting the Tac XR, I have to admit I'm thoroughly impressed. Definitely well built and has a good weight to it, as well a really ergonomic handle which makes using it a dream.

What MC says about the lock stick is super true. Easiest way I've found to get it to go away is using oil for a while. It slowly smooths out and isn't too bad with the oil. Haven't had it last more than a week.

The ergos on the Tac are fantastic. Knife is function over form and is underrated here. Usability for EDC and, ahem, -close your eyes MC-, tactical applications are both covered by this design.

SOG pushes this knife as a choice of 3 way deployment. flipper, thumb stud or axis release. if you use the axis release. it will partially deploy. I bought mine on sale from SOG for $67

Interesting review - and I checked, those extra holes in the handle don't seem to have screws in any version that I have seen - weird! I have an ancient SOGwinder lockback as my only SOG, a girlfriend gave it to me long ago. I have always wanted a SEAL XR, but only if they would swap the GRN handles out for Micarta. It would be a great hard use knife, being S35VN and .19 blade stock, with 3.9" blade length. It's definitely full-on tactical in style, but kind of a classic in that vein. However, the GRN handle scales have always screamed "cheap" at me, so I won't get the current model - never seen aftermarket ones anywhere. They released it with OD green FRN recently, missed their chance to really step things up by upgrading the material. SOG is an interesting company, and with some minor changes to their product line could really become a bigger player, IMHO.

The higher screw hole is there in case you want to position the pocket clip to higher position for a deeper carry option. The Tac XR is designed primarily as tactical knife and the pocket clip is in the position so that you have an extra bit of handle to grab the knife in an emergency situation. The handle to blade ratio is set so that you have more control of the knife. There is purpose for the rhings you find confusing about the knife, you just have to know what you've got in your hand.

I have one but I think the back spacer is dulling the knife in a certain spot in the belly and I cant keep it sharp because the blade is resting on the back spacer.

That back of the handle has a slot that looks like it could be accessorized using the missing screw. Not sure though just a thought.

Where can I get a T6 pivot replacement screw? Jus noticed mine is snapped off on one side. It still functions but its a little wobbly. And I have to keep checking if it's still there. Lol

I just noticed when you said something about the t6 pivot screws. The Trident is also t6 and has them on both sides also. I haven't had to fool with it so haven't noticed. Yeah that's way too small

Yeah, I’m not a fan of this SOG aesthetically or functionally. I’m glad it’s not terrible, but I’ll never own this, which you confirmed. Thank you. By the way, those holes are intentional, which I can find no purpose for in my quick search. I agree the big hole is probably a lanyard hole and the 2nd hole may be for the scale being used in another model with another purpose because it is a common part. This is my best guess.

You CAN use just your thumb, but I don't recommend it.

T6…I’m in the space of going from knife enthusiast to maker after watching 1 billion MC videos. Naturally I looked for t8 and larger when gathering supplies. They are Friggin hard to find; maybe because I’m a rookie. I instantly understood why making your own hard wear is a big deal. I think there are so many t6 situations because of supply.

SOG is smart for putting the proper drive size fasteners in the knife to protect it from people overtorquing the fasteners.

Sog is bit hit or miss . Like my copper stout flk . Seems they are getting better but not sure bout this one , bit older design maybe why ?

I bought this in the hope it would be a fidget knife, but I do not recommend it without gloves... The lock, flipper and thumbstud are all too sharp (at least for my fingers) for it to be a comfortable knife. It works fine, cuts all day, and is sturdy, but definitely not a knife for fidgeting.

Hey, I just watched your video! Great info, since I'm not a knife guy. I just wanted a solid every day knife. My hands are huge and this knife is perfect for me..however, when I got it ,much to my dismay it had CHINA blasted on the blade. I got it right from SOG. I was wondering what the heck is this?? None of the pictures have this.

I am mostly impressed with the SOG xr locks, been through a few terminuses and had this sogtac and a vision, the seal, the kiku. The sogtac was an interesting one to me because it had great action. But I didn't like the aesthetic. Blade seemed short for the handle. Didn't like the blade shape, the tip being swept so far back. And hated the t6 pivot. Ended up selling it for cheap but overall, not a terrible knife and sog has regular sales where the price gets knocked down to 65.

Favorite part is probably that nice *ting*! I prefer a bulky feel in hand, but that handle does look a bit too much so, and sorta dwarfs the blade (unlike Ritter, whose blade matches that bulk). Agreed about the studs OR flipper vs both. Overall, it looks like a good blackout with a nice utility/tactical feel, nice jimping, a different blade might fit the feel better, but as is it just doesn't call to me. Thanks for the overview!

I have the auto tanto version of this knife. I really don’t care for it. I want to like it, but it is so wobbly on lock up.

The xr lock is pretty awesome it kinda sucks the knife in on closing. I have the terminus xr I think with cryo d2, it came pretty sharp and cuts well. The detent is c+ maybe a b, I can fail it but it doesn’t happen when using it. And they are around 50$ right now so not too bad. They have upgraded modes with carbon fiber liners and other upgrades.

i owned the terminus, it is so fidgety, i fidgeted that thing for a week since purchasing it and then the omeha spring gave way, in just a week... im so disappointed

That ting usually means they screwed the pooch on the heat treatment. That is one of my favorite lock mechanisms though

Not defending any company for unwanted billboarding on their blades and Sog is definitely guilty...but we all know that some of the people talking crap about this knife are running around happy as can be with their brand new HIC-CUP, large as life down the side of the blade. 🤣🤷♂️
