Life in a remote anchorage has a very particular rhythm. One where the predictable problems of normal life completely disappear and where very different problems can consume you if your not careful. And after living in a marina for the past 8 months we’ve finally cast the lines and are about to say goodbye to Malta and set sail for the massive cruising grounds of Greece and Turkey.
But before we head out for distant shores we are taking a few weeks to acclimate ourselves to our new life out in nature as well as to come up with solutions to the particular challenges of living outside of civilization.

Yeah their site doesn't work.... something about my zip code (we call them post codes) not being valid 🤣 Given the nature of your channel it might be better to promote products that all your viewers can use, but I'm glad they're paying you to promote a product that so much of your audience will never be able to use 👍

Great video as always, loved spending time with you in Malta. Time and time again we find that our fellow sailors are the kindest most interesting people & that is certainly true of you guys. How lucky we all are to live this life. Have a great trip through the Ionian and Aegean and looking forward to the next anchorage we share together.

Flopper stopper works even better when set deeper. 10 feet or so, or more. More water column to push up. And if possible get a second one to deploy over the rail on the other side.

We found shutting off Starlink when we were off the boat and when we were in bed made a huge difference in power consumption. It is surprising how much it tips us over to using much more power!

Really pleased for you both that all the upgrades and renovations you completed in order to become truly "off grid" are paying off. A well researched and prepared plan of execution is so worth it in the end! As a consumer today the internet (especially YT) has made it so easy to get real world immediate feedback on a product. Its still possible to go wrong but its certainly less risky! 😊

Good morning….of all the sailing channels I watch on a regular basis I must say…what I sense in how you two relate to each other…warms my heart to see the obvious love and respect you all have for each other is special indeed! I love the way you keep things ‘real’! Thank you for making yourselves vulnerable and sharing your misgivings as you face the future as new parents. Having your ‘first’ child means life will never be the same and to hear you talking about your family and responsibilities it’s very obvious you are very grounded and committed in who you are and how you want raise your family. I’m 76 yrs old and love adventure but to do what you’re doing means I experience it vicariously through watching and enjoying your videos! Thank you for sharing your adventures and your family with us!

Many thanks, you guys. Great video. Can't help laughing at the idea of a washing machine aboard a small sailboat.I know it is common these days, but I used to tow my clothes on a line behind the boat for about an hour, and then give them a little fresh water rinse. Worked like a charm. Don't run your engine "at idle" for charging your batteries. You will coke up the cylinder head and valves. Run it up to at least 1500 rpm. This is why gensets are used instead. You probably should think about getting one if you are going to use the same comforts aboard your boat as you would with an apartment. Keep in mind you do not have endless cycles with your batteries. I know we are all different but I found reading books, even by candle light, much more relaxing than watching Netflix movies. I think that is a good example of the kind of "life style" change living aboard is about. It is great being able to get regular and accurate weather info, but get away from the internet as much as you can. You will feel different. Maybe even think about writing a book, or making crafts. If you live life aboard the same as you would in a condo, then you can miss the poetry of it. I know we are all different but something called you to the sea, make sure you don't miss what ever that was because you are still too "plugged in" to the real world. That said you absolutely must keep making videos for all of us! haha.

When you said lifestyle and growing up for your daughter, yes you are so right the quality time she spends with you in a environment of safety and love of parents, it does not matter where and how, you are very responsible people you know what you do and also you are not exposed to the craziness of a crowded place you enjoy a lot of peace and quality time in a natural environment with all the wonders of the world to learn from and grow up by living, our son grew up in a very remote area in the Canadian wilderness far from people, and is now a young man we can not be more happy how he turned out in to a wonderful human being, keep on going,I will watch you and enjoy it

Pro Tip: Last trip to Hawaii I was shown a trick by a dive master on how to put on swim fins while in the water instead of trying to look like a fool wadling towards the water backwards or forwards with them on. Simply roll the back of the fins down all the way, once in the water your feet will slip right in easy...just reach down and flip the back up & you are done! Great video as always...such a beautiful location.

Whether it was the sailboats diesel, or the kicker on the dink, my kids always slept when I started an engine. Glad Isa appears to do same. When they were littles I secured a pool noodle around the edge of their infant car seat, in case of accidental baby drop btwn mothership and dinghy. Never had to rely on it, but it tested well. Y’all may already do this but ‘anchor riding sail’ attached from backstay to mast/boom base helped reduce motion when it was caused by winds swinging back-n-forth @ anchor

Your small diesel is quite the workhorse, as in most cruising sailboats. The high output alternator is key. Makes gobs of electricity while the engine is barely above idle speed, and…..hot showers!

Especially enjoyed this episode. A nice combination of different takes/subjects. Concerning obtaining net-zero or positive energy status, I assume you have looked at more powerful solar panels & possible wind-generated electricity. How about water generated electricity from tides and/or waves? And the other side is more efficient machines for the stuff you do need, I guess. About seeking the optimum environment to raise kids, it always seems to me that there are pluses & minuses to almost everything you do, and that they often balance out. As long as you have the basic necessities, safety, & love, Isabella should be set. Cheers. bf
