Basically - get all the lugs as tight as you can with fingers - then do small turns on opposite lugs around the drum. Snare reso head a little tighter than the top and toms however you want.

I’m honestly inspired by your story and humbleness man. Long time watcher recent subscriber I have 1 question. Being on tour now and dealing with meet and greets and things of that nature do you tune your own drums still or is that delegated to one the sound engineers? Just curious as to how involved you get for your actually drum sound. Of course I understand in the middle of a show (God forbid) you bust a rack Tom head I’m sure you have an extra Tom on standby or some way they could quickly get it swapped on so you can carry on. Thanks for your time and keep on what you are doing!

Don’t suppose you could explain how you used the midi app on your iPad. Did you set it up to play tracks stored on the iPad or was it something else? Looking to use the same thing for my band.

I just have molded in-ears that goes into a wireless pack. No subs or external monitoring by me unfortunately. Although I’d love to be able to feel the bass a little more!

How do you get the sound effects to be incorporated into the song during live performance. Do you have a bank of samples preloaded into your pad or is it a timed track so you do not have to deal with it. Thinking of the intense effects behind the hard core jam in scars or bow down.

Awesome set up man! I had one question about your snare. I too use a 14x8 big boy, and I can't seem to get a decent crack out of it when I'm playing bigger venues. What size/count of wires do you use? Feel like that could possibly make a difference for me. Thanks for the tips!

I have a wider set of wires on it right now (I forget the exact count) and that has been working really well! Then I’m not afraid to tune up the top head because I know it’s going to have body just from the depth alone. But also my shell is super thin copper. So that of course could make a difference

How do you deal with your base drum sliding away while playing? I have a big problem with this and I plan on building a wooden thing with 2 feet on each side of the base drum with a stick that goes across to the other side in order to stop it without hurting the drum too much. Thank you.

Hey there, personally I don’t have this issue on the drum rig that I use. However there are products that help with this such as K brakes. Maybe check those out and see if it will help!

I see you're using also the new Tama beaters. Don't you have problems with the felt coming off? After 6 months of playing, there's not much left of the felt. It's a shame because they do sound awesome.

Hey man, I run 1 high Tom and 1 low Tom. I can never se to get a decent tuning. Do I have any tips on tuning or maybe on what skins to buy?

Depends on the amount of lugs, 5 lug Tom's are horrible to tune cause they never stay in tune, but if you get them just right they sound pretty good, I personally use Evans eq2 clear pinstripes for batter and Evans black hydraulic for a reso just to get more warmth and punch out of my Tom's, and I use an emad2 with built in dampening ring holder on my kick batter and a eq3 reso from Evans.

Evans also makes a cromatic tuner that makes sure all your pugs are the same tension, and Tama makes a weight and tension guided tuner to also do that same thing, a bit of a cheat but I like them and they help with beginner drummers, I've been playing for 12 years now tho haha

I know you are a "if it aint broke, dont fix it" kinda guy. I know a lot of hard rock players use the audix d2 or audix d4 on toms. They have a nice natural eq for those boomy toms.

Haha you know me well! When it comes to mics in a live setting, none of them are mine. They are all the front of house guys mics, so I just play whatever he puts on the kit!

It’s not bad especially if you know eventually you’d like to learn to play double pedal. My recommendation would be to start off just playing the single and then once you feel like you have a solid foundation, then you could add the left foot pedal.

So, are you saying that I Prevail plays to a track on every song?? Does it bother you that it’s not really live?? I mean it is, but you’re playing to a track. Seems like being fully live would be more rewarding. Why do you play to tracks anyway??

They parts that are tracked are generally just little electronic synth parts here and there. It’s very common across most live music acts to have these little parts tracked rather than adding another person on stage for simple pads and sample parts.

Drum Beats Online oh, because in the video it appeared that you said there were loops that played between songs and when you were ready for the next song you started the song track. I completely understand if it’s just minor things that the song needs, much cheaper than an additional band member. However, that was not what I took away from the video. Also, with bands being caught not really playing, ie a band like Bon Jovi, you should really clarify that I Prevail is live and not tracked music. I for one won’t spend hard earned money to watch a band that’s not live. Thanks for letting me vent Gabe!! You’re awesome!!
