Go to the vet and ask for the best tick collar they sell! My dogs went on a two week adventure (lost) in the woods. The collars I got literally made the ticks fall off my dogs!!! I had dead ticks littering my floors for two or three days. I paid around $20 each for the collars. Also, I have my dog on Simperica Trio. Seems to work well.

I just switch my dogs to Symperica 😮 I thought they were trying to get me to buy a more expensive med but it’s actually cheaper than triflexis and seems like others are actually on it for ticks 😂

There is this yellow spray bottle you can get it at Walmart in the camping section with the mosquito spray section ... but its made by Sawyer, the active ingredient is premetherin and its for ticks .... it is amazing stuff!!! We love in the middle of the woods and we rarely get ticks when we use this stuff! We 1st learned about it from the vet!!!! ... For our dogs, we also use Nexgard and it works well, it kills the tics when they bite them!! We rarely have tics and this says somethings cause our house is surrounded by heavy trees and woods!!!

Always trust your dogs. The first man was probably sketchy. Crazy how he didn’t bark at certain people and those petting him. I use Seresto collars for fleas and ticks for my 3 dogs.

isopropyl alcohol, Q-tips and tweezers. When they first attach they are sometimes difficult to locate, especially on long hair breeds. An unfortunate by product of outdoor play... Ty for sharing !

I went hiking/backpack/hammock camping in Minnesota once in the fall. When the trail crossed a road, we stopped to take a rest and I literally saw hundreds of ticks coming out of the grass onto the asphalt to try and get on us. I was like, nope... and we got up and kept moving. Ticks get real bad in Minnesota in the fall.

😳😲 I was literally going to finish my hammock video ~I’m up in Minnesota and I had to stop halfway because I needed more rope and I never went back and I was going on to finish it just the other day but passed on it~~ I am so glad now~ I’m gogoing too it in the spring though.

Are there no opossums there? I know they love to eat those things. Ticks get bad here in the south but I can not imagine dealing with that many. Ive only seen a few during the summer. Wonder why its so bad there?

P.S. I feel your pain regarding ticks! I had a big 'ol dog for years and years, lots of which were spent in West Virginia. The ticks there were HUGE and AWFUL!! It was my introduction to the tick world and it was one hell of a doozy way to learn! UGH!

I agree with people in the midwest are so friendly! My parents grew up in South Dakota. When we went to visit family & friends people made us feel so welcome. Blue is irresistible who wouldn't be loving on him.

My beagle is always getting into something! She is super fast, and clever when it comes to finding foods that she should not consume. I keep hydrogen peroxide (a capful based on her weight to induce vomiting), and activated charcoal (to absorb any remaining toxins) capsules on hand.

I hope you get the tick thing sorted. Going home might be more relaxing. Maybe try to act less stressed when you find ticks on Blue (if possible) because he can take on your stress and also be wondering why all this stress and fuss is focused on him.

I know this is an older video but I just started following you a few months ago (so playing catch up) and Blue licking your face like crazy on top of you while getting ready for bed cracked me up! Yup, he has no respect for your personal space! I love it! You handle it well and love your relationship with him! As it should be! Bless you both and will pray for him and you! I had to deal with ticks with my dogs in AZ. I used tick collars and a powder. That really helped. But they’d still get on the dogs sometimes, and I’d have to do what you are doing.

Pennyroyal oil in a spray bottle of water helps repel bugs. Fall seems worst time for fleas and ticks, before hard frost. My little one gets some chocolate once in a while, never seems to bother him.

We were up by Sleeping Bear Dunes the week before last and ticks were everywhere. Picked a couple off of Thor, thankfully while they were still crawling on top of his fur and we were on the paved trail! Thankfully though it seems like we are getting some colder weather in so maybe a hard freeze is coming soon.

So we had the same issue when we moved to the Midwest. I got fed up and shaved my dogs. The fur grew back by winter. And the doggie sweaters that I had to get were adorable!

You should get a pill from the vet the dog can chew, I get one for Hershey think it's a 6 month pill for fleas and ticks it works he's 3 years old now and not had a problem he's a 12lb Chihuahua. He's like a son 🤣

It’s dark chocolate that’s the real issue. Regular milk chocolate not so much. He may have the runs and be hyped from the sugar load so he will probably be good to go. They’re a mess. Lol

I make a spray with witch hazel and geranium oil and I live in NY and hike ALOT. Minnesota and Wisconsin are the absolute worst states in the midwest for ticks from what I read. They are bad in New England as well and the vet tells me that the ticks are becoming immune to many of the preventatives. I also use Advantix once a month as well.

Hi Maria, yes Minnesota is pretty but we are blessed to have a entire country that is beautiful. It was strange to see Blue bark at that man but dogs can sense things we can't, trust Blue. Those ticks are all dead on Blue (except the ones crawling) so you Next guard is working? This tick season has been the worst as you're seeing. The best thing I learned that lowers the ticks in the wild is possums. It's like candy for them, so if the possum population is low, the ticks explode. Wishing you safe travels and take care Maria.

We use the seresto collar for our Australian Shepard Brooke. We live in a heavily wooded area and she manages to avoid the ticks.we use tick twisters to remove the ticks. The twist out so easily

Hoping that your headed home. You have got to do a deep clean on your vehicle. Ticks and bugs can live in vehicles. I detail vehicles and believe me when I say that we find ticks and many insects "living" in vehicles. Mostly farm vehicles. But seeing Blu have ticks like that does freak you out. Poor baby. Hope you get it taken care of. Good luck and safe travels.

There's another guy in the video where his dog is with him as well during the winters he has this tent that he attaches to the back of his car just to have some space for him and the dog because it's too cold to go walking around. He keeps it on top of the car. Just a thought. I hate ticks. I'd kind of freaked out thinking they were everywhere in the house for days when my dog had one. Best wishes

Besides all good advice, mix white vinegar 50/50 with neutral shampoo (clear) and bath Buddie several times a week. Also, use vinegar on car 100%.

We’re originally from Michigan, and have found spraying our furkids with Wondercide before heading out eliminated almost all ticks (they’re on preventative too). We found the peppermint one worked best for us. (Also helps keep away spiders, so we spray it inside the RV too 😂)

try using a spray or product with permethrin. it's basically the go to treatment for cattle but also used in a lot of dog products. it's synthetic but the same function as the compound from the chrysanthemum flower. after getting lyme i spray all over my clothes in the spring-fall.

Very cool , my cat died of old age .. but the fleas helped in that process to put her down. It was ugly and the fleas were very bad this year… Am I the only one noticing this? I enjoy your adventures… from Iowa in the rural areas and like your adventure and can relate with you… keep on girl.. :)

Maria, when you take a tick off blue. smother the tick using vasoline. Smear a glob on the tick and wait a minute.the tick will pull his head out, then pic him up with Kleenix. If you just pul him out ,he can leave the head in and it could get infected. Im sorry you are having this problem. Blue is so good

You can also spray his paws with natural mint spray. Try and keep them off. They sell it at WalMart.

I would have freaked and shaved Blu if I stayed. But your dad was right to say go home- need to be in freezing temps. Maybe use the Hot Shot Fogger that kills fleas, ticks in your car.

I've found ticks smaller than the average size. Teenie-tiny, harder to spot, harder to feel. I've seen one run fast thru the coat of my dog to elude capture! They're stealthy! I'm in the Sacramento valley and started finding these 'dwarf' ticks around '18. And I've found ticks on my dog year round...

Permethrin, mix with water in a sprayer and spray down ur car. It’s safe when dry. I would use a damp washcloth on my dog with mix. Never any issues. I researched what farmers with livestock would use an their pets and tick prevention is how I got the solutions I used. Good luck. :)

Maria! I could not recommend the tick removers where you twist the tick out of the skin! That way you always get the whole tick out and don´t risk the head or legs being left behind like you could with tweezers. Works great on both dogs and humans ❤

Just did a hike in a dense trail before watching this. Seeing these ticks, its making me paranoid about having ticks myself. Haha. I hope you can get the car treated as well. Its possible there is a infestation in the car.

Pleeeaase be very careful...especially since you are out there just you and Blue...remember...dogs are pretty good judges of character...and go with your gut...try not to make it known you are solo...be sure you stay in touch with family or friends as far as where you are.

I have never seen ticks like they have been the last 10 years. I was raised in the country in the that 60’s-70’s. My kids were born early to mid 80’s and I never saw a tick on me or them. My Fad might get one if he went rabbit hinting in a swamp.

Take him to a groomer and have him treated for ticks/fleas. Also, check if there's any OTC's other than the spray that you can use.

Ticks normally hang out in tall grass. I rode my bicycle down the road one day and had to stop in the grass to let a rescue squad pass, and when I stopped in the grass, I was bombarded with ticks. When I got home my legs up to my knees were covered. You couldn't see my skin at all.. so yeah.. I understand your fear of ticks.

I hike and camp with my dog in MN a lot. There are a ton of ticks, i spray my legs and boots and my entire dog before all hikes, does the trick for me.

@@Shelty6 i use all sawyer products. It sounds strange but i used the clothing and gear spray on dog, their website says its okay and lasts 30 days. Then got the other spray from them for my personal use

My sister bought a bunch of Halloween candy and she had to run errands. When she got back both her dogs had gotten into the Halloween candy and ate about four or five bags of candy. She was freaking out but hey were just passed out from the sugar high on the floor lol. She called the vet and they said just to keep an eye on them and they were fine.

I’m from Germany so I don’t know what type of tick preventatives you have in the US but I use this stuff I get from the vet called Bravecto we give it to our dogs every three months and they never get any ticks. We live next to the forest and are in the forest every day and they never get any ticks it costs like 30 bucks but for three months it’s absolutely safe

Gotta have a good freeze. To get rid of them a late freeze and a early one if you dont have a late freeze ticks are a bear has to be after several warm days to help get rid of them

I live in Maine, and unfortunately have realized that ticks do survive the winter months...they simply bury themselves in the leaves. I also think that the preventive only kills the female ticks...can anyone else verify that?
