Yes, they do still play their older songs. Though this one has faded out a bit and has onlu been played live once since 2018. Their first CD (MAID IN JAPAN) was more pop-punk and they had not found their sound yet. Their next release was a single with 3 songs of different styles. One of them was Thrill. The next CD (A New Beginning) has the basic rock sound. It includes a re-release of Thrill, as well as Real Existance, Don't Let Me Down (This song), and Freezer. Pincess NittPicc, you need to hear Freezer, even though it does not have a video. Their most played song live is Freedom from their 3rd CD (Brand New MAID) 2nd is Real Existance (mentioned above, 2nd CD) 3rd is Alone (3rd CD) the first song they wrote all by themselves They still play all of these, but they shift songs around all the time. "Alone" is the first song they were allowed to write, arrange and put on an album. Terrific song. From then on they , pretty much, wrote their own songs.

I remember when this song was brought up during a Japanese interview show. Saiki , who notoriously hates trying to speak English, had no idea what the song was about. Miku softly explained it to her and Saiki looked shocked, which is funny, because Saiki is known for being hard to shock.

At least in Memorable, they didn't make Miku run... Just throw her in the middle of the desert and let her walk home. Anyway, you can tell when the lyrics are written by Miku cause the stuff that she writes tends to be incredibly profound. She's a genius lyricist.

This album was loaded with great songs......you have to hear Freezer off this album.....one of their best older songs (along w/Real Existence) It doesn't get much air play because there's no video but its on their site. It is a total jam !!!! And you will love Saki's and Miku's harmonies

This song had music and lyrics written by Akihito Tokunaga (a guy). With the English lyrics it really feels like something male record company executives thought would be good for their career because of the sexy lyrics. They have rarely played this live in the past few years, I think the last time was the Feb 2021 online okuji. The song Alone was the first song they wrote that they were allowed to record by the management company.

Even in their early days, they had control over which songs to perform. Miku has said as much. Kanami is still good friends with the songwriters and still credits them for helping with her writing style. They are full grown women and knew what they were performing.

I found Band Maid the same way as a lot of Madiacs did several years ago with the MV THRILL. The reason I became a fan was simple, They played real aggressive hard rock to perfection. It was a while before I realized that they weren't writing the songs themselves. It wasn't their fault but they wanted to succeed so they went along with management. And it paid off. Today they are fully in charge of their futures.

Misa was playing a 4-string Fender bass at this time. There are two stickers on it. One is Jimi Hendrix and the other has a woman in a long dress that somewhat resembles her with a caption that says Sweet Potato Pie, Eugene Oregon.

I'm Japanese, and no disrespect to the BAND-MAID, but this song sounds a lot like Halestorm's Love Bites. Of course, Halestorm's song was released first. It may just be a coincidence, but I feel inspired. In case you are wondering, the power metal band LOVE BITES is named after this song because the vocalist, Asami, is a big fan of Halestorm. I can't remember who, but it was a guy. lol The first song Kanami wrote for the band, that they were allowed to go with, was "Alone". And it's awesome, but so different, because of it being so early on. They submitted other songs, but Alone was the first they were allowed to actually run with. They aren't ashamed of this song though, because they have played it at concerts in recent years. And this is my second favorite song to blare loudly as I drive too fast in my car. So there is some hyperbole involved in the early songs and how the band were treated, yes the songs and lyrics were written by other writers but they were also able to arrange the songs as they wanted, in other words this was not dictated to them. And there were some damn good songs provided as well especially when they moved to Crown Stones for Brand New Maid which is a petty stong release and of couse contains Alone the first song with Music and Lyrics by them. Also in interview, Miku has said they were quite satisfied when their first label (Platinum Passport) moved them to (Crown Stones) a PP subsidiary, they believed that PP was trying to move them towards sex symbol/idol group status

They played "Forward", which comes from their very first album, at both the Yokohama Arena concert last year and at the Christmas acoustic concert a couple of years ago.

Yes the first 20 or so songs were written for them. But they were good to very good songs. 5/6 of them are still regularly played at concerts. In fact Non Fiction Days, Real Existence, and Freedom are up there in frequency of played songs. To me they are the original templates of the Band Maid style.

The Yokohama concert has a few older songs. I miss them doing MORATORIUM. BLOOMING is a great vocals song for MIKU and SAIKI. FREEZER (on Spotify) actually has a vocal back and forth in the right and left channels.

By the way, the background of the music video is a playfully exaggerated version of Japan, which is quite funny. That made me think of a veteran Japanese band called “Ningen isu.” A cheap Japanese image similar to this song may be used in the music video. The songs are traditional heavy metal, and although they are completely different from BAND-MAID, they are an interesting band.

This is one of the 3 (at least) songs I found that fateful first night (late Spring/early Summer 2017) finding Band Maid. I wasn't looking for them, had never even heard of them. I saw a KZfaq suggestion (thank you KZfaq!!!) for a song called Thrill by a band called Band Maid. Took a chance, Click. Play. BOOM! 30 seconds in, I'm hooked. I played it again. and a 3rd time. Went searching for more Band Maid and found Real Existence and this song. It's like hitting 3 home runs in your first game in the Major League! They have continued to impress with whatever style they write and/or play in. I love the old stuff and I love the new stuff. Yes Thrill did save them but the record company wanted to release a different song which was much more pop. The girls especially Miku fought for Thrill to be released and to make the music video for it. If Miku didn’t fight for it ther would probably be no Bandmaid 😮 Yes Don’t let me down was not written by Bandmaid it was written by a writing team and producers. Saki voice has changed since her polyp surgery. Early Bandmaid songs you can tell Saki was pushing her voice too hard and wasn’t really trained properly but now……..wow ❤

The lyrics were QUITE the kurfuffle when the song came out and also their first all English song. We also discovered Miku has the super power of running in heels all over Tokyo. 😂 EDIT: As for playing older songs, it’s sporadic. The only song from the first album they play occasionally is FORWARD. From there we get Thrill and Real existence from New Beginning and Freedom and Alone from BNM. From there forward they did almost all the writing so you get much more variety.

They have actually addressed the Saiki & Miku singing lead together in interviews... the "twin vocals" style as they call it is less & less prevalent in their music with Miku's increasing rhythm guitar skills, because she has to focus much more on her playing now. Back in the beginnings of the band she barely played anything & the guitar was effectively just a "prop", so she could give much more attention to vocals. They have more recently done a song in the twin vocal style as homage to the old days called "Youth".

They definitely did not write these lyrics 😂 this was at the time when they got everything written for them for sure (honestly kind of turns me off about this song imagining someone else giving them these lyrics, even if they okayed it). They do play older songs at their concerts, though unsurprisingly not as often. There’s a couple songs off of Brand New Maid that get played often (Freedom and Alone) and then every once in awhile they’ll pull a few older songs out which is a nice surprise, but yeah they overwhelmingly play songs they wrote, which makes a lot of sense! But one of my absolute things about their performances is they don’t just play the same songs at every concert, they mix it up quite a bit.

New Beginning is a great album. So many good tracks. You should definitely check out more from it.

Yes, a guy wrote the lyrics, and I'm not sure what he was thinking, Po! 💦 Seen them live over a dozen times and it seems like Saiki creates the setlist based on a theme, i.e., after the "pandemic," they had to reestablish "World Domination," so it leaned more to the later albums. The 10th Anniversary Spin-off returned to the older stuff, which I think was better than the Yokoari final that I attended. So, in conclusion, I always give a note to self, "Never miss a Band Maid show, every, Po!" 🦍🍌

No, they didn't write these lyrics ... but Miku said that she and Saiki do tell each other dirty jokes before going on stage, as a way of calming their stage nerves. They are normal young women, not prudes shocked by sexuality. Kanami is said to be quite naive, and has to have some jokes and stories explained to her.

Musically, I love this song, even though it's primitive by BAND-MAID standards. But those lyrics... yeah. They make this a guilty pleasure. Songwriting credit: Akito Tokunaga FREEZER, from the same album, is another great song where KOBATO and SAIKI share the vocals. THE NON-FICTION DAYS, and BEFORE YESTERDAY, both from Brand-New MAID (2016), are two very different songs that are among my favorites.

Their early songs -- despite the difference in genre and style -- still have the Band-Maid energy and musicianship. You can see the promise shining through the pop songs written for them.

Yes, they sure bring out some of the older songs in their shows... one of the songs I was shocked to hear live (in DC) was "Carry On Living", it was SOOO GOOOD live, loved it. Thanks for the reaction.

They last played this live in a 2021 covid livestream later turned into a DVD. Real Existence is still played occasionally. Freedom is the only early song that is a live staple. They just have so many great songs now that these older songs are becoming rare at live gigs.

I am staring hard at the other suspect though, especially since she wrote about "Ten minutes of limp gymnastics" in one of Band-Maid's newer songs. I am always amazed at two things in this video. First, how Miku can run in her heels, as it's know she is a little clumsy and accident prone and two, That no one even notices a cute maid running by and through them. They didn't write this, but it's still a fun song!

At this time, Miku was not writing lyrics and could barely play the guitar, so her main role was as a second vocalist. They do play older songs at their concerts, they played Thrill when I saw them in Seattle, although songs from their first album, Maid in Japan, are quite rare. Freezer is a great example of twin vocals off this album. Beauty and the Beast, also on this album, is a rare example of Miku singing lead with Saiki as backup.

Depending on which set of lyrics you read, the last line of the 2nd verse "Your body is mine tonight". Saiki actually sang on the recording, "your balls are mine tonight"..... Just got a little spicier 😂

It was only after a few listens of this song that I realised they were singing in english, mainly because the music app has the lyrics for the album. Usually they are written in Japanese but this was entirely in English. I must confess, I probably blushed too... 😅

Excellent reaction.👍 Most likely you have already been told this before, but you should remember that during the first two albums that Band-Maid recorded for Gump Records, "Maid In Japan" and "New Beginning" the girls were not allowed to use their original material, which they remember as a very frustrating period in their careers. It wasn't until they changed labels to Crown Stones that the girls were allowed to start using original compositions, that were included on the mini album "Brand New Maid." "Alone", extracted from Brand New Maid, became a milestone, being the first song composed by the girls that had its own PV/MV... the choice couldn't have been better and the video itself is great. . DO NOT CONFUSE with an alternative version of the "Alone" video that began to spread on KZfaq approximately a couple of months ago.😉

The Ladies aka Kanami, were submitting songs to the label, but were constantly getting rejected. Kanami at first was dispirited about it, but after getting encouragement from Saiki she continued writing and submitting songs. Kanami has said, that the rejections forced her to become a better writer, and to learn more about HOW to write. It wasn't until their 3rd release, "Brand New Maid" that one of their songs, "Alone" was accepted. And that opened the floodgates. For their next album would be a full length album of 13 songs, of which 9 of them were written and arranged by the Ladies of Band-Maid.

OMG.....I can never unread that!! So I've listened to Don't Let Me Down on the New Beginning album and just thought it sounded cool and kind of a rock'n song. But never looked up the lyrics....oh lord, it's kind of hilarious!! I always pictured this song as the Miku running travelogue video, I'm fairly certain that Saiki had no idea what the english lyrics meant and have read that in the early days did not particularly like singing in english. Also at this point they were not writing their own songs yet and most of the songs were chosen by the producers for them to choose from so they did choose to do this song from the pool and New Beginning was the band members consider their first album as they didn't particularly like Maid In Japan (although has expressed some love for that album) and only on rare occasions play Forward and Before Dawn from that album.

Maybe because this was a single, but it's funny how everyone talks about the lyrics on this song but it's all a bunch of innuendo compared to "I Can't Live Without You, " which is blatantly sexual and enough to make an 80s hair band blush.

They're fond of some old songs that they didn't write, as others have mentioned. They will rotate a few in and out of the set and a couple, like "Freedom" (for which Miku actually wrote the lyrics) are still live staples. But they're focused on their own songs. The vast majority of their set will come from Just Bring It, World Domination, Conqueror, Unseen World, Unleash, and various singles. You will almost never see anything from Maid in Japan. "Forward" has appeared a couple of times recently; clearly for sentimental reasons. From what they've said, they didn't feel that material really delivered on the band concept/vision. "Thrill" was the first song presented to them that all five of them really liked and it helped cement their current direction. But even that song isn't played very often anymore; they've moved way beyond it.
