This massive tea market is focused on puerh and contains hundreds of tea shops selling both pressed tea, loose tea, and teaware.
If you are in Kunming this place is worth checking out. You can take a taxi to "Jinshi Chaye Shichang / 金实茶叶市场". It is situated at the north end of Kunming where Beijing Road meets the 2nd Ring Road. It is definitely worth the visit: goo.gl/maps/Pr5kvXEPWsN2
We are in Yunnan China for another month and have many more videos we're planning to release. We appreciate you watching them and commenting. Thank you!
You can check out our tea and teaware here: www.crimsonlotustea.com/

I wish that there were more tea shops in the USA, the were remotely as cool as these markets. In my state, shops keep closing, so really online is the only place to get high quality tea.

Tea is so interesting because it's one of those small things that I enjoy even though I don't like tea. I just like the peacefulness that comes with it, if that makes sense? It's just calming to see tea made.

I'm not entirely certain how earthquake friendly the upper additions are, but it is an impressive place. That's good to know re: 1080p. I'm guessing the encoding hadn't finished on the server side. 1080p is usually done last.

I've been to Yunnan before and unfortunately didn't visit this amazing place for tea. Thanks for the tour. I'll definitely have to go next time I'm in the area, whenever that is!

Eeeey! I was just rewatching this, just to see what the tea market looked like in 2017 (I was there early November 2019). So when you stopped by HLH's shop I was thinking to myself "wait a second... isn't that the parking lot right in front of HLH?", and it was! Haha! I have to say that HLH is such a cool guy I really loved spending time at his shop. I think for me, he is not too pushy, I felt that a lot of places were quite pushy in terms of getting you to try stuff (obviously they want to be friendly and sell stuff). Maybe that was just the case of me not speaking Chinese though. I remember a shop where I was asking for Kun Lu Shan material, they got some samples for me, but they wouldn't really tell me the price before I would agree to try it. And so I felt uncomfortable when they told me it was 35k Yuan/kg, like I would never ask to try that because I know I could never afford to buy that from the get-go. It was an awesome experience though, and I really need to go back to Yunnan at some point in the future! Next time I will bring a Chinese guide though haha!

Yeah there are a lot of hard sellers in there. I hate parking in that parking lot. It's too tight and hard to move around. We park down the street and walk over now.

@@CrimsonLotusTea Yeah that makes sense, I was living at a hotel at Beijing Road, so I could walk there in 20 minutes or so, or take the metro luckily. I would imagine that parking is a pain like no other there.

These videos are great! This was really exciting cause I'm currently studying in Kunming and have made multiple trips to this market, but I did not realize the tea market was on both sides of the road. It seems I will have a lot more exploring to do across the street! Thanks for the videos!

Hey that's awesome. You should come over for tea some time. Email me: crimsonlotustea@gmail.com . Yeah the market on the other side is pretty cool. It has a definite 'cultural' focus. More or less that means the buildings look Chinese. There's actually a lot to see there as well.

Few years late to this video - but this was super cool. The sheer amount of shops is overwhelming! I think it could be cool to while away an afternoon, but I'd probably spend way too much money. How hard is it to find the real good tea there? I know that sometimes there are a lot of "fakes" in the puerh world - cakes pretending to be something else. Is that sort of thing not tolerated at a market such as this, or is quite common there?
@timgordon3716
@timgordon3716 7 жыл бұрын
Another great video thanks. So, are all of those shops retail focused or is it more about wholesaling teas? I found it really interesting what you were saying about the shops not having to really differentiate themselves. Quite a bit different from the NA business model where differentiation can be key..
@CrimsonLotusTea
@CrimsonLotusTea 7 жыл бұрын
You see this kind of business model all over China. You will have a special mini neighborhood exclusively for say kitchen faucets. I'm not kidding, there is a kitchen faucet market with about 100 shops near our home here. I think it is an extension of the traditional village model where like minded workers would gather together to practice their craft. The shops in this market will sell retail but are mostly focused on wholesale. Many store their tea in the same space. Some markets have living space above.

You have no idea how infinitely jealous I am of anyone living near that market. My God, I'd have no idea where to even start. What are the prices generally like? A lot of variation I would imagine. Good to see the Irish feature in Yunnan heh, anyone there from Ireland?
@CrimsonLotusTea
@CrimsonLotusTea 7 жыл бұрын
Prices are low and high. Average tea is cheap and high end tea is expensive. There are hidden gems, but you've to hunt. There are at probably half a dozen Irish bars in Kunming. They're actually pretty decent. I think they were all started by Irish expats. The Irish are spectacular at exporting their culture. On St. Patrick's Day I had my choice of parties to attend. On Cinco De Mayo... nada. 4th of Ju-what?

When I eventually go to Yunnan I will definitely be visiting, hope I can find some extremely cheap tea I adore, though isn't that the dream for all of us? Yeah, us Irish have a nack for the ol' culture business alright! Hopefully any Irish expats there can get me some tips and secrets hehe

You've reduced the number of "Ah"s in this video compared to older one's I've watched. That's cool since it was a bit annoying when you didn't speak as fluently as you do now. Overall, I like your videos. They give some real insight in the tea business which I enjoy :)

I like to treat these videos as a conversation. I want to have a discussion with the viewer. Additionally there is a level of cultural sensitivity. I ask for permission to film in the tea shops. Most people ask me not to. So I respect that. I filmed in the shops where people gave me permission. Filming myself talking requires no permission. I apologize that our videos disappoint you. I hope you can understand. Thank you for watching!
