The skill trees had special abilities, you can actually see these abilities in the halloween sanctuary event. Reindhardt for example shoots fire from his hammer swings, can redirct ally damage to his shield, become immune while charging, and his fire launch thing leaves behind a path of molten magma, like torbs ult. mei for example had the ability that her ice block if she did while moving became a snowball allowing her to roll through enemies to damage and slow them, and her ice wall would deal damage to nearby enemies and explode for more damage on death. that is why they were so difficult to work with, setting up MULTIPLE options for every single heroes abilities that make them feel new and unique. They coulda done it, but obviously it seemed to just not work, so they butchered it and kinda used some of the leftovers here and there.

Has Eddy done a video playing Deep Rock Galactic before? With mod customization and how good the game is already, he might really enjoy it.

So, to chime in with the skill tree discussion I can't believe that making Existing Skill Upgrades can be too hard. Programming them, perhaps, but making them up doesn't seem too hard. Now I'm not a developer, which is why I say Programming them might be hard. But I am a custom content creator for different things. The reason I say making existing skill upgrades aren't too hard is because this is a PvE Mode. I get there does need to be challenge, but upgrades are designed to lessen the challenge. Think about Roguelike games. They're designed to be easy at the start when you have little to no upgrades and get progressively harder with each stage or time passing. They design simple upgrades for early like attack speed, heal on kill, explosion on kill - then more complex upgrades to finalize builds. The point I'm making is the majority of the skill tree (Maybe about 50-60% depending on the actual amount of them) can be about stat upgrades: Tanks having Barrier Upgrades, DPS having Reload speed or Critical Damage multiplier, Supports having shorter CDs or healing power. Then near the bottom, you specialize your abilities like how it was once showcased (Reinhardt's ult hits in a circle rather than cone, His Firestrike causes an explosion on targets killed, He can charge up to 5 enemies at a time - All as an example for one character) This was a rant, I may reply to some comments, but really this was just my opinion - If you do or don't take it seriously, I don't want a full on rage war spamming me out for the next month.

Yeah no matter the excuse I don't see how making new animations for pre existing characters would be more difficult than making a new one. Instead of making a new ability, or literally just passive skills, it is easier to make new lore for a new big and important character, a character design to please your fans after your most recent scandal, 4 entirely new abilities that also need entirely new animations on the new character who you just created, and also a unique primary weapon that isn't too similar to everybody else. I don't believe that for a second.
