In this video we will go through what constitutes as Plyometrics and what does not. The pioneer of Plyometrics was Russian professor Yuri Verkhoshansky, which he refereed to as ''the shock method''. Today, in popular heath magazines and throughout the web, you will find flashy banners such as ''Try this 60 minute killer Plyometric workout'' and they will approach the proclaimed ''explosive-power workout'' in the same manner as an aerobic conditioning workout, and this goes against everything plyometrics stands for.

It’s about ...mental focus ..absolute focus ......not effort

Mental effort and pure force in every rep while working out is the most important element of training. What's helped me explode my vertical jump is striving to make a 90 degree angle between my legs and the ground, and then instantaneously jumping up and forward.

If you stand up straight, there's a 90 degree angle between your legs and the ground... Lol

thank you for this excellent video. there’s so much garbage exercise videos on youtube. honestly, I struggle to even get a couple of inches off the ground. I have no explosive energy, sadly. but I am interested in the challenge of it. I am 50 and lift heavy weights. i wonder if it’s possible to improve without injury.

Thank you!!!! Intention x Impulse = PLYOMETRICS……. I have had so many arguments with coaches about this. I have also said Plyometrics sits on spectrum….. MAx Effort requires MAX CNS recovery- and high speed running and sprinting is also plyometrics. Stretch shortening cycle is a bit longer like you pointed out but it is still plyometric…. How we capture energy from the ground and instantaneously use it for movement. Great video champ

How would you incorporate plyometrics in a s&c program for bjj athletes? How many exercises per workout is recommended?
@Smithster80

Probably 2-3 each for upper body and lower body. Do ones that involve different planes. Progress or regress them as necessary. Keep time per set under 10 seconds I’d say.

Is it beneficial for wrestlers to complete plyometrics in season? Or only off-season?

One can perform plyometrics during the in season as well, but the focus will be more geared towards maintenance; so lower volume and number of sessions.

so it does not matter what type of plyometric excersise u do, its about 100% effort right?
