@@Divici02623The point is that the Surge is supposed to be quiet and smooth. That’s why HVAC installation people swear by it, especially residential. Working in a confined attic is where the noise level is crucial.

@@Divici02623 The newer impact drivers are lighter than the older ones, for sure, especially the compact models. However, I weighed my Dewalt combo, and the drill only weighs about 1/2 pound more than the impact driver. I have found myself using the drill more to drive fasteners lately.

The surge isn't quiet at all if you're working on certain materials. The vibration of the impact travelling through a thin metal is still incredibly loud.

I love my Surge- it's smooth and quiet and very gentle on small fasteners. Of course, I'm an automotive technician and don't do carpentry or woodworking. For me, good control and the ability to not over-torque small screws and fasteners is paramount. The power levels are perfect for my needs.

I’ll take performance over noise any day. Tools make noise, wear hearing protection if you’re that worried about it. A lot of job sites are loud enough to need hearing protection anyway.

The surge drives fasteners gently for things like finish carpentry, especially on the 1 setting. the little bit of quietness is just an added bonus.

Alot of the electrictians i work with like both the m12 and m18 surge because its more gentle driving fastners i guess. Not over impressed by it but it has a cult following. Like you show (and ive done) the modern drills drive like butter.

The Surge is an impact driver. Showing it do drill stuff as evidence it isn't a good impact driver is just stupid. The Surge at speed 1 or 2 for actual impact driver stuff is very quiet. I love my m12 surge, it's compact, light, smooth and fast. Drills are for the big stuf not impacts, bud om the smaller stuff I prefer my surge, you can work really delicate with it, still its fast and I can sneak up into corners where my m18 fuel can't reach because it's to big. The drill also is heavy and the surge is light. Call me weak bud real man realize one day or never in some cases, that they will prefer something light over something overpowered for the job.
