Wow! A display like that on a machine that expensive is just bad imo. Personally I had experiences with several HP laptops at various price points. And now after those I just avoid anything from HP. My favourite anecdote is when an Envy x360's hinge broke as I was opening the laptop, cracking the screen in the process. Mind you, the laptop had less than a year. But the reason for the failure was that in a laptop with an all-aluminum body the hinges were screwed (with metal screws) to a hard plastic plate, that broke. And all the other laptops were plagued with issues that made me feel like I was being scammed every time. And don't get me started on printers.

We've had a few HP laptops over the years, the display has always been the weak point... My colleague had an Elitebook, needed to have the screen replaced twice... I had an Envy with a 3K screen, quite nice to look at but just so dim (kinda like me i guess). And now I have an older Firefly model, and the screen has weird issues with ghosting, color saturation being out of whack if the brightness is not at 100%... But otherwise yes, they do feel quite nice and solidly built, it's a shame...

could make sense from a battery life perspective. If you think about it, the screen isn't very large, lighting conditions probably aren't controlled, etc. There's more variables to the experience than resolution and bitrate, but if the bitrate is good enough (and the res is at that size) or if you just don't care it makes a lot of sense if you're a student or at work and need your battery to last as long as possible between charges under a light load.
