Thanks for the lovely video, it’s wonderful to learn more about how the locks work, and I agree with your “what’s the rush” perspective. On a side note, Annamarie I LOVE how you styled your hair! 💕💕💕 I have similar curls to yours and am growing them back out after several years of VERY short hair and you’ve given me a much needed boost to carry on through the awkward phase. 🤗

Not to be a nitpicker, but while watching the older vlogs of you on the Ewart I noticed that your boarding planks and boat hook were painted to match her color. Very ship shape! On the Lazy Daze, it looks like two boat accessories that you don't care about. You need to put them on your painting To Do List and make them a part of your boat. By the way, I love you two and your Vlogs and have been watching them from day one. Keep up the back and forth banter and the good work. I love it, John

I had trouble sleeping and a video by y'all is a lovely way to pass the time! I was a dairy farmer and did a lot of field work. I learned that hurrying was a great way for equipment to get damaged and people get injured or killed. I also love picking up some differences in dialects. Cill was one I didn't realize until I saw a shot of it painted on the lock as I'd only ever seen sill. Tick over was another as I'm accustom to idle for such motor speed. Understanding that one I find the usage here even more odd since we do use turn over to mean starting an engine. My first experience of this, and beginning of a bit of fascination with dialects, came when I was in Montreal nearly ten years ago. I was recovering from surgery and a bit bored so I watched when the local news came on the television in the common room of the recovery residence. There was a report on some proposed legislation and said that it was tabled. It went on to cover ensuring debate and I was confused for a moment until I realized that where I'm from "tabled" is used in the same context for the opposite meaning (technically temporary set aside from active consideration but in practice anything tabled usually is never considered again.)

A few good points on safety girls! one thing which moorer did on our marina did, was use the boat as a bridge in a lock, he misplaced his footing stepping onto the roof, slipped in between the N/B & lock side with the grand result of a leg in plaster & still hobbling around a couple of years after (short cut = very long cut). Please can you add this comment on your next Vlog thank you.

Nice to see the off-shift crew members getting some rest (amongst their toys, of course) :) Looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey down to the basin, and hopefully there're some more "Through the Hedge" episodes coming up (what, hinting, no, not at all, me?) as that means you get some fun adventures in! Stay safe and as always, thanks so much for sharing your videos with us. Maybe if my country ever gets its collective ass in gear about taking C-19 seriously, we'll be allowed back out into the civilized world. We've sent in our passports for renewal in hopes of using them this winter or early next spring. *Fingers crossed* Right now there's a 6-8 week delay on them so since we can't legally go anywhere (no one in their right mind will allow US citizens into their country right now, for good reason), we figured it was a great time to renew them. Maybe sometime in the not terribly distant future my wife and I can pick up some prints in person at one of your future fairs/public events!

I've never been on a narrowboat, though I have once spent a day on a barge here on the wider Irish canals. However, I grew up near a canal, and now live even nearer to it. I walk the canal a lot, and have often helped boats through locks by giving a hand with gates. All the locks around here have double gates, so having a person on each side of the canal makes things easier.

We have been careful and lucky to avoid going in the canal so far. For the most part, as they are man made canals are not super deep- an average height person would be able to stand up. However Marinas are much deeper and falling in there you are likely to go under.
