Nissan's biggest mistake is that they don't seem to advertise the Titan. After all the truck commercials that I have seen, I struggle to remember the last time that I saw a Titan commercial.
@thechiefenginer
@thechiefenginer Жыл бұрын
I honestly don't think that advertising would have done anything. Guys want trucks that have more bells and whistles than their buddies or neighbors....whatever. This truck may lack in the "luxury and tech" department, but the reliability is great. Other brands never settle on something that works for very long. They have to screw it up with something different. GM is a perfect example. I;E: lifter issues, AFM ETC. But at least they have a 75" infotainment screen and 10 "around view" cameras" ......... Also, everyone i talk to says "Your driving a Japanese piece of junk?" Yet, it a very much american disigned and made truck. only Jap part of it is the Jatco transmission. Thats more american that most of the others.

The Titan would have sold better if Nissan had advised it AT ALL. Literally the only marketing material I have EVER seen for the Titan was single page print ads in car magazines, way back when the Titan first came out in 2004. Compare that to the marketing for domestic trucks, where you can’t watch a single football game without seeing at least 5 commercials for the newest F-150/Silverado/Ram.

I just picked up a very well equipped 2023 Platinum Reserve. I like the column shifter, no cylinder deactivation, no auto stop/start, leaf springs and a V8. Plus their 5yr/100K warranty is great. I think one of Nissan's biggest mistakes was not putting the Titan Warrior into production. That would have been a fantastic marketing exercise to generate more interest in their truck brand, and they should have done it when the current gen was introduced back in 2015. The Raptor was the only one of its kind then. But instead, they decided to go with the identity crisis called the XD. Now compare that with the hype the next competitor to the Raptor, the TRX generated. And by the time the refresh came in 2020, it was a foregone conclusion. Maybe they'll take the lessons learned and apply that to the Frontier, of which Nissan seriously needs to bring back the X-terra on the same platform.
@jeffk464
@jeffk464 Жыл бұрын
Yes, on the other hand, I would rather have a Frontier. Not sharing a platform with the Titan means the next gen Frontier will be designed from the ground up to be a mid sized truck. It could be beneficial.

I don't know how much market there is for every manufacturer to come out with a Raptor competitor. Ford's version pretty much owns the market and how many do they sell?
@chiemekaa
@chiemekaa Жыл бұрын
@@jeffk464 I agree. That's why it's more about putting your name out there. Remember how Nissan marketed the GT-R? You can probably count with your fingers how many they've sold this year, but despite going over 15 years in the same generation, it's still relevant because of the effort Nissan put in it with the year-to-year updates. Interestingly, I actually saw the facelifted 2024 GT-R in millennium jade around my neighborhood a couple of days ago.

It’s a hard segment. Truck brand loyalty is like a religion in the US. Nissan never had the heritage of the domestic makers or the ultra die hard reputation Toyota gained. Value minded buyers were the target but that’s only a fraction of the market. The die hard Ford, GM, Ram and Toyota guys were never gonna go this route. Had the Cummins been a traditional inline 6 instead of a goofy v8 they probably woulda stolen more customers from dodge. Big dumb inline 6 tractor engine is the only reason to own a dodge so having a similar engine in a better chassis woulda sold. Had they offered a manual transmission they woulda stollen more customers too since 1/2 tons stopped being produced with the lord’s transmission well over a decade ago.

That sucks. I have a 2022 Pro-4X and it's great. The value is so much better than anything else you can get. I had a 19 F150 (after owning Ford trucks for almost my whole adult life) that had nothing but problems. Oil consumption, cam phasers (same problem they have had since at least 2003), and the transmission was horrible. I shopped around with every brand and could not come anywhere close to the Titan. The technology and options are vastly superior to what you can get anywhere else. I have everything except the sunroof and cooled seats and my truck cost $47,000 brand new on the lot. Push button start, electronic folding mirrors, memory drivers seat, heated seats everywhere except the middle of the back seat, etc. Try to get that in any of the competitors and see what your price comes out as. And the only other mostly bulletproof motor out there is the Tundra (and that's gone now I believe) but the Tundra at anywhere close to the same price didn't even have power passenger seat. The Titan even came with a medical kit and adventure kit and I thought they would be gimmicky but man they are no joke good stuff. I hope to keep this truck for a long, long time. I am 52 so it may not be my last truck but my next one will probably fly. LOL! Oh yeah, and NO auto start/stop with the Titan. Man I hate that nonsense!!! I think Nissan just needed to really do a better job of advertising this but the truck has never been Nissan's premier vehicle. I really wanted a diesel for my long trips and towing the boat and RV but that was gone before I could get one and the used ones (during the beer flu) were outrageously priced.

We have a 2021 Nissan Titan XD and it is an awesome truck. Truck buys are very loyal and the truck market is very challenging to break into. Nissan decision not to have a larger advertising budget doomed the truck. Ram, Ford, GMC, and Chevrolet have TV commercials 24/7. My Xd is way more capable than any other half ton. Those others can say their trucks are more capable but I would not want to tow anything close to what they advertise. Had a 2008 titan for about 3 years. Very nice truck. Good powertrain for towing. Nice sound system for long days of driving. I’ve had all major brands. This was much better than the ram hemi that I had previously. However, with the lack of updates, I’d probably stick with ford and the 3.5 lately. Power like a diesel. As a used truck, I think the titan is a solid choice if it was maintained, though.

It’s sad to see the Titan go, since it’s one of the few modern Nissans I would actually consider buying. Its only real problems were that it wasn’t really significantly better than its competitors, it didn’t stand out & wasn’t advertised, and that truck buyers generally remain very brand loyal.

Well, this model might be going away but, they might be designing a whole new full size truck with new name and badges that can compete with the other big 3. Nissan is great value. But often the advertisements/marketing or lack there of is not on par with the hype others whom put in considerable amounts of $ do. Thus, often folks are not swayed by value, but the glamour other companies hype up for themselves. It is sad on 1 hand. But they are not out of business. Times like right now where prices are rocketing out of control for vehicles, Nissan should be capitalizing on their established value for the $.

Nissan had an absolute gem in the Titan. They failed miserably on two points: First, they made NO effort to advertise or provide aftermarket support for off-roaders (try to find a winch mount for a Titan!!!). Second, they kept a LOUSY entertainment system in the lower-tier trucks with no way to upgrade. Seriously, I bought an SV 4x4 so I could get the cloth seats, and the entertainment system was a JOKE with 2-ohm speakers and a complete lack of volume. The Titan is probably the best-driving full-size truck on the market, looks good, and is incredibly reliable. I bought a '21, and I now feel abandoned by Nissan.

If Nissan actually cared about making a good product, they would: scrap their EV line, heavily invest that money in to a nicer Titan exterior, replace the interior completely since it looks 15 years old, overhaul their V8 and make a turbo v6 option. Also, replacing the P.O.S. key fob. My sister had the same thing on her 2007 sentra.

I'm going to reiterate my sentiments from an earlier post: Nissan should have, or should do what Toyota did not do. Multiple engine choices. I'm hearing they will turbo charge the Armada in place of the V8. Why not do the same with the Titan? I also heard rumors of improvements to the Titan XD with max towing of 15k lbs. The Warrior never came to fruition...there's literally so much they left on the table. Automakers use the same engine in sedans and sports cars as they do in trucks and SUVs. Why not fine tune the Z or GTR engine for the Titan and Titan Warrior. Add bigger breaks to the XD and up the towing capacity as rumored. Why not this lineup: Titan engine choices: 5.6L V8, 3.0L or 3.5L TT V6 Titan XD: 5.6L V8, 5.0L V8 diesel Titan Warrior: 3.8L TT V6 Mind you, the Titan XD diesel transmission was produced by Toyota. Couple that with the possibly the best warranty on the planet and you have a recipe for success. They dropped the ball. Maybe it will come back in the future like the Bronco, Land Cruiser, and Toyota Crown, refreshed. Only time will tell

I see a potential opportunity to buy up old titans and keep them going. Im a technician that works on trucks and equipment. The amount of chevy, ford and dodge trucks coming through the shop compared to Nissan and Toyota blows my mind. Of course there is more of them out there so its to be expected. Regardless Titan's are severely underrated and people hate on them yet don't know anything about them. Part of me wonders if Nissan is slowly dying off in the American market. If they focused on competing in the truck market maybe they wouldn't have to get rid of the Titan. Weird thing is I have never seen any newer titans at the local Nissan dealer because they always sell. It's really a sad thing seeing these trucks come to an end.
