Arguably the best intro of all time in a metal song. It’s plays just as good in reverse for crying out loud. AND, it sets the tone to an album where the world’s greatest metal band were at their peak, and they pushed their abilities as musicians to the limit. It’s my favorite album, and Blackened is just a pure work of art.

I haven’t found any direct confirmation, but I believe this intro was most likely played by James. For this album he didn’t only play the rhythms, he played all the harmonies and even the slower leads (which this qualifies as). Guitar-wise, he played pretty much everything except for the solos.
