Yup, this is a controversial episode I know! I paid for this iPod my self too, I am genuinely excited to have a real 256GB iPod. Even if you don't think it's an ipod ha! The vid got way too long so heres some extra info: Apple says battery life for music is 40 hours, which puts it on par with the last of the classics. But I don't anywhere near that long but thats because I find myself doing more stuff on this. I love playing one finger puzzle games on this so there goes battery. Puzzle games and Frank Zappa on a handheld offline device is my kinda heaven. iOS also has the slow charge stuff where it guesses your charging habits to charge the device slower to protect the battery and make it last longer. Thats ballin. Also dark mode on my iPod! USB C is real cool but Lightning is not a bad 2nd place. Especially since Apple makes Lightning to USB C cables so if you have heaps of USB C chargers (or a macbook...) you don't need dongles. I wish Apple would just call it the "iPod". It makes no sense to call it the Touch anymore since this is the only iPod left. Wireless charging is a total must on a future one, but keep the small dingus screen and "welcome home" button. No really, I never want to type words with a clickwheel again. It's funny, then annoying, then frustrating all in the span of 5 minutes. The tiny 4" screen makes a nice 1 handed music dootler to me. It aint cheap, no way. But man it's so crazy thin and light. The glass and alloy is super nice, all my mates who held it went "why did you get an iPod tou.... oh wow thats so light". Folks say to just use Airplane mode on my phone, but then I can miss work offers or important updates so that doesn't work for me. Eggs.

@TheDawnofVanlife11 ай бұрын
The iphone was AT&T exclusive in the states for awhile so I think originally the ipod touch was a great way to have the iphone experience disconnected from a phone plan. It was also a way to give kids/young teens an iphone-like device without actually going all inbon the cellphone (now tablets/ipads are more a thing). It was quite awhile into the cellphone era that ‘getting first cellphone’ became a milestone event.

I remember when the iPhone came out, I was bummed it was too expensive for me at the time. Then the touch came out... and I basically then had most of the same tech for a fraction of the price. It sounds dumb, but being a creature of habit, I still never have owned an iPhone - just a touch. If I lose my shitty Android, I don't care. If I use all the battery up on my touch on a trip, I can still use my phone.. I have a lot of backward-ass logic, and I'm sticking with it.

the ipod touch is amazing for even more than you said here, "its the iphone without the phone" part was perfectly describing it, i think most people choose the classic over the touch for that reason however, the charm, nostalgia (and of course the PRICE) makes people want to go to the classic and save the games and streaming services for their phone instead.

Pour one out for the nugget with the touch screen, boys. Apple announced it's getting discontinued today, leaving a bittersweet taste in the mouths of many who were hoping for one more refresh!

That moment when you have to explain people that yes, not relying on the Internet 24/7 is good, bezels are good to hold stuff, small size is good to hold in hands, headphone jacks are useful, an actual physical buttons are useful too... (by the way this newer iPod sounds great because they actually added a good DAC inside it, the Wolfson Media chips that manufacturers use when they care about sound quality, also present on.... the PSP!) It's sort of weird and sad how the industry went and how the consumers just accept this... Damn, I feel old with this. But proud of being so. Cheers to being old!
@IngwiePhoenix4 жыл бұрын
Hold on a sec. The PSP had a Wolfson DAC?! O.O Dude, this randomly blew my mind into orbit! I totally agree with you. I don't get people who moan about foreheads and chins - i grew up with them and they are super useful. Ever tried holding an all-screen phone with one hand while eating ice-cream with another and deciding you need your phone in landscape? Your hand will _love_ it! xD On those older stuff? Just pick on the bezel - done! But hey, we gotta teach the young ones what the oldies used to do, ey? ^-^
@ChlorideCull4 жыл бұрын
That explains why I thought the PSP had good audio back in the day. A bit clumsy to use as an audio player though.
@RiveTheRat4 жыл бұрын
Wait, does the new iTouch use a Wolfson DAC now?
@brunoglopes4 жыл бұрын
Ingwie Phoenix that’s an oddly specific scenario. What’s even more odd is that I went through it just today lol. Didn’t have a problem flipping my iPhone X, though. I don’t think the bezels make that big a difference.
@Kalvinjj4 жыл бұрын
@@RiveTheRat Hang on, that one might be the Cirrus Logic ones... Now I'm in doubt... (EDIT: To add to confusion, Cirrus Logic seems to produce some of the Wolfson DACs... so... something is happening that sounds good) Either way they finally added good stuff on them after the iPhones got popular, I remember back in the Classic days the frequency response never managed a flat line bellow ~60Hz, but later on that stopped being an issue

What is it about Apple that you hate? I don’t get why people trash on stuff for no reason. When people say it’s overpriced garbage, I don’t see any other devices from the mid 2000s that are still usable. If you just prefer Android fair enough. I prefer much prefer windows but use a Mac because I was sick of having to maintain or upgrade a PC

I remember my first iPod touch I got back in 2011. It was the perfect device for middle schoolers who didn't have an iPhone/smartphone and had to carry around both an iPod Touch and a regular cell phone. Crazy how things have changed in the years for this to essentially be "classic" now, I wonder how long until these start being collectors items.

Bruh why would you want an old android instead of a new one
@LaskyLabs3 жыл бұрын
@@illford6921 because they can do just as much as the new ones. Like the Galaxy S7 and the Edge are still popular to this day, still just as functional and useful to this day. Pixel 2, not that old, but if you ask me, probably the best one other than the 3a. Here's hoping the 5 isn't as disappointing as the 4. Basically all OnePlus phones are still great to this day. The 5t will officially get Android 10, and the 6 and 6t are still the bomb. The 7, 7t, and their pro versions are all awesome and will continue to be for years to come. The 8 and the 8 pro were a disappointment if you ask me... But most anyone can only get incremental upgrades right now with the slower rate tech is moving at.

@@_-_--_ I totally forgot about those guys. The nexus 6 guys are just as annoying as the note 4, and s3 guys. Although, they're a sort of dying breed... I don't hear much from them anymore, but it is a great phone, I can't deny that. They're all great phones, but man the people who continue to use them are so annoying. I get that you're happy where you are, but it's not that hard to find a great upgrade these days. The Note 9 is still $300 I think, and that was the perfect phone of that year, minus the price at the time. The pixel 4a and 3a are still smooth, and plenty fast, and cheap. Sometimes you just have to move on.

I had bought a new 7th gen a little ways before I came across this channel (I think about 2 years ago, as the Apple Care is actually in its last few months), and it was nice watching this some time later. Having a dedicated device that remains with you and can out live your phones is a good feeling really... my phones come and go, but my iPod is still around. Good for all my music, some movies on the go, and all while allowing my phone to be reserved for things I need a phone for without consuming more power. That, and like he said, it's nice to not get interrupted while using it. I genuinely wished we got at least one more modern model during the last anniversary... one with the new hard edge design language that was brought back with the iPhone 12.

I can only use the full 160gb if I install Rockbox on there because it has the 6th gen mobo instead of the 6.5 gen mobo. I also had headphone jack issues and I was too cheap to buy a new headphone port and realized it was contact issues so I had a strange 3.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that worked after I wrapped the end of it in tin foil that has now become a permanent protruding 3.5mm jack from the iPod. It runs my headphones better than anything I've used apart from my scarlet solo in a number of years. iPod Classics were G.O.A.T apart from super high end and need a 1tb+ re-release
