Why no one is making modern versions of these Rockman products is beyond me. I have an XP100 which I absolutely love. To have a modern, all analog floorboard version of the XPR/XP100 would be out of this world! Name your price! Anyone else?

Awesome sound. I have a Boss dimension C Waza on my pedalboard and I must say I like this rack unit for the same reason in that it doesn’t go into that “Sea sick” mode, the modulation even in extreme settings is musical and smooth. Thumbs up

The best sounding chorus ever made! Right up there with the big dogs like the CE-2 and the Dimension. I own a Rockman headphone amp so I have that beautiful chorus. I used to own a whole module rig. I sold it, years later I missed the sound and got the headphone amp and I'll never sell it!

I had the Sustainer, EQ, Chorus and Delay. Such a great tone, and I regret to this day ever letting them go. I suspect the Chorus/Delay you're using has some issues, although I could be wrong - I never used that particular module. Anyway, that Rockman chorus is just one of the best ever. What I always find odd about Rockman gear is that people automatically shoot for that nasal midrangey Boston tone, but with the EQ you could really push into a much more diverse array of tones.

You should've gotten out the Strat with the Michael Landau pickups for this! Funny enough, I'm tone chasing some of his sounds for stuff I'm working on right now. I just read an interview with him talking about his rigs from the past. He said he even used the Rockman for a bit..."it was my low point in my tone" lol. I LOVE the rockman sound though. I know I'm always touting Amplitube, but as a long time Rockman user, the "Boston" model they have (modeled after Joe Satch's personal Rockman X100) does this sound justice. Of course you don't have the extra options like this since it's based on the X100...but "that" sound is there. Then throw on their Fulltone TERC and slap on some delays and reverb...it's glorious sounding!

It’s March 2024 as I watch and comment. I wasn’t aware that the Chorus/Delay module also included a drive circuit in addition to the chorus and delay sections. Meanwhile, I had to nudge myself to focus on the module and not your first guitar. It’s been years since I last saw a Strat with V-Lace Sensors.

i just sold off my original ROCKMAN SOLOIST. Bought it around 1987. To this day my tone is heavily chorus, reverb and Delay laden. I tend to use the chorus like a Pitch shift, I turn the rate to almost zero, the AA3 (as you know) has really good (however scant) effects. No band just Livingroom Rockstar and currently use the Atomic AmpliFire 3 button with some average computer speakers and Its Glorious.

In my opinion, the Rockman sound, while undeniably iconic, is, was, and always shall be, cheesy. But it was fresh back in the early 80s, we'd never heard THAT before, and who doesn't like fresh cheese? But its basic principles can all be improved on with better equipment and settings today. With a more friendly EQ curve, better chorus, flanger, and delay settings with modern gear, you can get a tone that completely outclasses the original Rockman gear while preserving the spirit of it. Start by reconfiguring the EQ so it isn't so insanely midrangey.
