The moment you said left behind I was like: nope. Wolves care for each other if in same pack and are very loyal, never leaving each other behind.

But didn’t they say they don’t but if it were the other way around then they would be left around? But I could just be hearing stuff too.

Yes, which is precisely why they aren't at the back. At the front they get to set pace for the group, to ensure they never get left behind by the others.

Most of the time yes. There are cases of unrelated members making a pack. Which makes a bit of sense because if the structure was limited to family then subordinating would not happen and the packs that form in captivity would also not be possible.
@iclynnx5 жыл бұрын
This is *wrong!* This is far from how an actual pack works! This is how I see a wolf pack: The "alphas" are the only ones allowed to breed. They are the parents of nearly all the packmembers (on rare occasions, a daughter will birth a litter by an outsider, who didn't manage to steal the female wolf away after breeding - or a loner will be accepted in - or one is a brother or sister to one of the alphas). Sometimes, an adult female or male leaves the pack and tries to form their own pack with another wolf that has left or is looking to leave. They're called dispersal wolves. The parents, the breeding pair, usually lead the pack in hunts, as they are the most experienced. There is no such thing as betas, deltas, and ranks like that, but there are some with what's seen as higher dominance. Often it's cause is personality. Some individuals may intervene when two are arguing (breaking up fights is seen in dogs too). The ones with lower dominance / an aversive personality is what I'd allow to be called "omegas". So, the pack is a family. It's usually like this in the wild packs. And they would rarely leave someone behind too far, if it isn't already dead, or so injured it can't move. Or perhaps exiled, if that's possible. [Edited in 2023]

Wrong, alphas betas subordinates and omegas are all ranks in a real wolf pack but they usually don’t stay on the run much unless the are hunting
@not_the_trifecta9664 жыл бұрын
Icy Fleckz that is wrong as well let's say we have a pack of 8 already, the alpha just died so the next to step up is the senior warrior (the best hunter) he gets a pick of the best female and the first meal but also chooses to share with the young and look after them whiles eating, everyone listens to the alpha. This is the alpha male and female. The mother can be two different wolfs but typically it's the alpha female but can also be the elder female they're job is to protect the young and elderly and to relocate them during a threat. The position below the alphas are the warriors made up of male and female you have two 'leaders' (kind off) that run the warriors, the strongest and an elder, typically the warriors would consist up to 8 wolfs but can go much more. Next it's the mother and then after the young (not the pups) the young care for the pups like the mother and the alpha, they have to listen to the mother. Finally the pups who's only job is to listen to the mother, alpha and young and just be adorable. All members can breed, all members listen to the alphas and the only time alpha has perks is feeding first and choice of female. In a wolf pack there's almost no in fighting (thanks to the alphas, the strongest wolf and the elder warrior) when a wolf chooses to leave it's against the alpha but 99% of the time they don't fight and when a new alpha gets in charge they don't fight (they don't force alphas out unless they're sick or too old and keep fighting to prove they can still run the pack. typically the alpha will stay in charge till it dies or is no longer seen as the alpha). Wolf pups and wolf elders are treated the same, they're given care and are protected during threats by the other wolfs. Finally where the hell did you hear only the alphas breed? Wolf packs can have up to 50 members that's a lot of breeding for two wolfs not to mention feeding and protecting the first Which would be young before the next pups so that's up to 12 pups that 2 wolfs have to feed and protect?

Icy Fleckz oh forgot about one pretty much the scout they're the eyes for the pack and can be any of the members they're job is too look out for danger and food and let the pack know.

With snow like this, I seriously doubt those are the sick and old. Specially if this is their line formation for long distances. You expect the old and sick to wade through snow and set the pace? O think those are in the middle where they can benefit fron having another member make a trail in the snow.

Mate this is incorrect. A wolf pack is a family with parents and children alphas and other ranks don't exist in the wild. The parents are the only in the pack to have pups but sometimes when food is plentiful thare may be multiple parents. If a parent dies the other parent will find a new mate who will be happy to be a foster parent. The older children will help provide and care for the pack and as time goes on thay may leave to start a pack of their own. The pups are well pups staying by a den till they move to a rendezvous site and learn hunt.
