Nah, my brain gets ahead of me sometimes when I'm stressed and start saying one thing, think better of it and then stumble. She started saying adopted baby, maybe thought it would be taken the wrong way and should just say baby, but she'd already started and had to carry on so it came out stuttered and stilted. I can relate xD I wouldn't read anything into it beyond that really.

I can’t get over in her second “apology” her statement of “….while she was at the hospital *pause* …with her …… Adopted Baby.” The “adopted” clarification was so unnecessary in that sentence. It shows that she still has a stigma towards mothers of adopted kids vs mothers of biological kids. It’s gross.

unpopular opinion: i'd rather have a scripted, well thought out apology rather than a non-scripted, rambling, all-over-the-place one. it shows that they've taken time to actually sit down, think about their mistake and that they actually care enough about the person they're apologizing to. the issue is when it's still bad after it's scripted (which unfortunately happens a lot lmao)

yeah tbh i never understood the hatred for a "scripted apology". not that it applies to this situation but if someone has written an apology to read out, that means they took the time to sit down and really reflect on the situation. ofc with a lot of celebrities and wealthy people someone else is writing it but just speaking generally, i think a scripted apology straight from the source is actually the most appropriate course of action

Satin is actually a method of weaving that creates a shiny and flowy fabric. It’s not the material of a fabric. You can actually have silk satin, so silk woven in a specific way. But most often cheap satin is indeed polyester, like most cheap fabric in general.

"Im sorry she didnt feel supported" not "im sorry for not supporting her" this paired with the fact that she sounds almost disgusted whenever she says the word "adopted" AND that she used to translate for international adoption agencies makes her a hypocrite at best. At worst, I flat out wouldnt be surprised is she was lying about her aunt and the textile mill. However, I dont want to trust any of these other companies either. Most of their maternal policies are absolutely the same if not worse and theyre taking the opportunity to get cheap PR. A 2000 dollar donation is infinitely cheaper than a proper maternal policy

My moms work cannot be done at home. When my dad died suddenly, her job called her and said “don’t worry about work, work will be here when you’re ready to come back, take a month off and be with family.” There was no hesitation, it was the day after he fell. he passed a few days later. Her work really stepped up and helped us. They showed us more love and support than some of our friends we’d known for years had. It didn’t end there though, they still show that support and love all the time. We’re really lucky to have them.

I truly despise when people, and especially employers, don't think an employee should have paternal leave unless they're pushing a baby out of their body. EVERY parent deserves paternity leave regardless of how they are becoming a parent, they are looking after a child! I think EVERY state need firm laws put in place (I know some do, but not all) because most of the states that have the strictest bans have the worst options for parental leave.

In the US maternity laws are really weak (I don’t know all the ins and i wouldn’t be surprised if this type of scenario is often overlooked ) when my grandma was pregnant my mom told me she (my grandma) would always have to quit her job because maternity leave just wasn’t a thing. This was in the 80s. My mom also told me that you used to need a script to get plan B, so the lax rules don’t surprise me that much. It definitely sucks and again the company is in the wrong but I think the bigger issue is definitely women’s rights in the US in general

i hate that some people still feel this way about adoption, adoption is beautiful! as someone who has seen someone they love go through infertility, i saw the look on her face when she got to hold her baby, and she said, that it felt like everything that had been taken from her was given back to her in that one moment. ive seen how my family member is with her baby, and she does better than some biological moms ive seen. i also know that adoption costs are around 25000, so they werent asking that much in their gofundme. 22 weeks is 15 weeks earlier than the safest time to deliver a baby early which is 37 weeks. basically everything is either small or not developed fully, not to mention the chances of the baby getting sick from the mom having to go out. there really should be maternity plans for moms who adopt at every company.

Omg, can that woman stop saying ‘adopted baby’ that is HER baby! She legit choked over the word ‘adopted’ like it was some kind of dirty word that she was afraid to say. That baby is Marissa’s child! Stop trying to draw a line between parents, making it like one type is better because they happened to have a working uterus. My family is a mixed family, and my adopted siblings are my siblings, blood relation or not.

Maybe I'm naive/gullible, also it is not my place to accept or reject the apology since I was not one of the parties affected (not her customer, nor am I the mother). But can someone (kindly please) let me know what was wrong with the second apology? I feel like the owner stated what she did wrong, acknowledged the pain and damage it inflicted on the mother, said how she would make things better moving forward, and was fully transparent about her motives? Is it because folks believe it's insincere and motivated purely by the backlash? And because her policies were horrible in the first place? I guess I am trying to figure out what the ideal apology from the owner would look like, or how people would have wanted her to resolve the issue?

Well one thing that people aren't happy about and didn't sit well with me was how when saying the employee had to stay in the NICU instead of just saying "her baby" because at that point the baby is hers biological or not and instead specified "adopted baby." Though perhaps she didn't intend, it can be taken as her trying to distance the employee from the baby and come across as she doesn't see the baby as the employee's. Also the way she praises her, saying she loves her, and says how good of an employee she was kind of doesn't sit right with me because...if she was such a good employee WHY didn't you try to work with her? Comes across disingenuous to me. Now I'm not the one to accept this apology, but if I was in the employee's position, I'd probably not accept it. Like I'm glad she admitted she was selfish, but again, as the employee I'd be asking for more specifics as to why since now you're suddenly praising and love bombing me. In the end though, no matter how good an apology is, it will mean nothing if the person doesn't do the work to change. I hope this doesn't come off too heated lol. That's not my intention. I'm not always the best with tone and when I try to be direct I come off harsh. Edit: Additionally, I think people picked up on her being panicked since she seems out of breath which could be a sign she's just trying to save face even if she technically hit the right points.

@@koolkat9464 you didn’t come off as heated at all! Thank you for sharing your perspective, that makes a lot of sense. Her words say one thing (like the I love you and you are great to work with) but her actions directly put that into question. And her avoidant language around the baby sounds sus as well.

I would definitely agree, ultimately I hope the apology is genuine and I also kind of hope sincerity makes it to the mother. Despite how we feel as customers and an audience the position and the pay offer would seriously help that family so I think it’s a wonderful idea. Regardless it is awful and I hope this sets a standard for all businesses not just baby centred businesses. Note; outside of this situation I often wonder what the goal of certain criticisms are. Is it “punishment” or genuine change and accountability. I will definitely be keeping an eye on the business and whether they publicly update policy’s to protect employees and how this plays as an overall study on group mentality’s.

If the CEO has personal experience with adoption, it could make sense why people are sensing disgust from her when talking about adoption. She might have let her biases and feelings toward that corrupt system and let it affect her employee. That doesn't make it okay, but it would explain it. I personally couldn't see any of the body language indicating disgust, but it is harder over tech versus IRL, so I'm sure some people can be better at noticing that even over video. Or it could be the viewers' own biases. We might never know.

Why is an apology being scripted a bad thing? Not everyone is a great orator and many of us need that to express their thoughts in the most concise and precise way. It doesn't mean it's not genuine.

She can't understand that people just don't trust her now no matter how sincere she tries to be. She made a REALLY terrible choice. Not that nobody can ever be redeemed but she just nearly destroyed a whole family with a fragile newborn. I wouldn't ever make that decision. Who other than a POS would EVER do that to someone? I could never!! She shouldn't have ever ever ever done that. Everyone appreciates that she has apologized, because that was deserved after what she did. But it doesn't ERASE the really awful decision made. That's what people are hung up on. That's not a NORMAL decision to make. It's really extraordinarily cruel. And that's off-putting.

all of this could be fixed if the US had some maternity laws. As of now american companies don't have to give you anything at all. I have worked with ladies that had to use pto, sick pay and fmla to get the time off an money during the time the baby was born. SO WRONG! There at least should be things in place for when health issues occur, paying the bills is enough of a worry, but without a job?!?!

I wonder if her male employees are allowed to take time off if they become fathers and there is no mother due to the mother passing away during childbirth, or something similar? Will they refuse to let them have time off because they didn't give birth? Or, if the guy is part of a gay couple who have a surrogate, and have a newborn? Yeah, I'm not buying her apology for a second. Marissa is that baby's mother. No matter the circumstances of HOW she became a mother, she IS the baby's mother! My son has been in foster care since he was 6 months old. He calls her Mum, and calls me Mum. I don't have a problem with that, because I may have given birth to him, but she's the one who did all the hard work! The only time she is referred to as his "foster mum" is when people ask why he is calling me Mum. ( People they know them but not me). That's when she tells them, and then we both let them know that we are BOTH his mum, and we are to be treated equally. Being a parent isn't just biological - parents come in different ways, shapes and forms. And the CEO of a company that tries to claim "Family above all else" needs to realize this!

The CEO was for sure in the wrong and the first apology may have been insincere, but I don’t think scripting apologies makes an apology insincere (not saying that was said in this video, but it is often seen in a negative light). I for one am not great at communicating my feelings quickly or clearly, so writing them out helps me process and share them in the way I intend Edit: I don’t script all my conversations btw lol, but what I mean is I’d probably apologize off of some sort of writing as well if I was ever in a public apology position

Just like you only get one chance to make a good impression, in businesses, you will only get one chance when a situation arises to walk the talk. Sorry Kyte, you failed. There really is no second chances when you build your business on specific principles then not follow through on them when opportunity comes about. And yes, opportunity, because you were handed a gold ticket to show how you were better than the rest.
