kevin- your relaxed delivery is like fresh oxygen in this ADHD horrible time of the world today. We listen to you not just for riding advice but life advice...thank-you!!! kEVIn- just a suggestion I believe you mentioned in the past the importance of ear protection while riding you probably have new riders/viewers maybe a short reminder of the importance of hearing protection to avoid possible tinnitus (they don't go over that in new BRC-basic rider course MSF but they Should!!)

You're a blessing! Great advice! I've picked up the Bass recently, you're absolutely right about more frequent practice, is better practice. With the comparison to other people. I feel like the growth of social media has played a nasty part in that, especially in the younger people. People don't often think about the many hours of practice, like you said. Anyways I really have to step up my riding practice, and take a class. Thank you for the free resource!

Good words Kevin. The sin of envy gets a lot of people in trouble. Unfortunately I will not be able to practice until May. These videos help me get through the winter and give me something to look forward to. Motorcycle shows help too when Covid allows.

Great way to put that Kevin. I’m a truck driver long haul over the road. I practice every time I come home when weather permits. It’s really made me a better rider. Thanks for sharing this. I do try to get a advanced training when I can.

I just hit a pole on an exit ramp with my elbow. I’m a closing dishwasher and ride home soaking wet…my bike is my only ride. Well I was freezing and banked towards the exit too slow and had to ride the rest of the way home with 5 fractures in my arm and elbow then I dropped my bike 3 times at home but hey, I set my bones. Just wanted to throw this out there. Watch out for poles.

Great advice! I often pick a particular facet of riding and focus on that when I go riding. One day, I'll focus on perfecting my braking. Each intersection or stop sign is an opportunity to brake as smoothly and perfectly as possible. I'll use both brakes and stop with my front tire exactly on the edge of the painted lines at intersections. Another day, I'll work on shifting gears. When I try, I can shift so smoothly that it's hard to tell the gear changed. I imagine a glass of water sitting on my gas tank and work to be so smooth that it wouldn't spill. Any skill that I need to practice, I'll integrate it into my daily riding. it takes zero extra time - just a little bit of focus.

Totally agree! So many of us and students get caught up in how well another is doing. I make it a point to make strong mention of practicing various skills as they are indeed perishable skills. Great message as always!

Thank you! Some people think they just need to leap to a certain level and then they'll stay there with not further effort. Once they've graduated from the training camp they feel they've arrived, permanently. My experience has been that every season I need to refresh myself, and get back into good practices. I'm still learning, and complacency has almost got me into bad situations many a time.

Great video and makes me want to get out there and practice once the snow clears hear in Michigan. I used to coach little kids in baseball and more recently scholastic mountain biking and I liked to quote Vince Lombardi, "Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect." Not that you have to be perfect each time but you need to practice the correct fundamentals.

It's a simple tool and a great idea. What we say and what we do may differ, this will show if you do what you say. I'll be starting with didn't practice due to I'm freezing Mr. Bigglesworth but once spring hits WI it's game on.

After 5 months of my bike being in the shop "they were that busy" and $2700 dollars later "dropped 2nd gear" The first thing I did after picking up my bike was I went and found a half empty parking lot. I did okay still have a long ways to go and felt like I had lost just a little bit here and there. I really need to improve on my U-Turns and figure 8. But I will get there with practice.

Kevin.... !! Practice your riding skills everytime you ride! you dont have to go off to a parking lot and ride in circles When there is no one behind you on the road: 1. pick out a spot in the road and practice swerving around it 2. change your lane position quickly and tightly 3. practice your panic "estop" at red lights and stop signs several times a day, esp if conditions are different (wet roads for example) 4. when you come up to a stop or an intersection slow down short and creep up to the stop at 1 to 2 mph without putting your feet down 5. when you ride thru a parking lot sit up straight and square and ride thru at 2mph like you are in a parade 6. When you take a sweeping curve pull the bike in tighter in the turn, and let the bike ease back out - use your brakes in a curve to practice the feel 7. My favorite: every once in a while, when the light turns green, take off like a bat outta hell up to the speed limit..... because being able to accelerate out of harms way without spinning out is an important skill too.... You gotta know what your bike can do do this everytime you ride, esp when you first start out on a ride - you will be like a boxer shifting his weight on both feet, ready to dodge a jab all the time when a vehicle encroaches on your path, you calmly go around it or stop, because thats how you ride all the time and BTW: Turn on the CC and watch your video. Everytime you say motorcycle "rider" you are saying "writer".... it gets funny after the 30th "MC writer" in the close caption.... Rye Der not Rite Err (Love you brother :)

Perfect advice for motorcycle riding and life in general. Thanks for the reminder of both. Question: I live in the Chicago area. It's not feasible to get the bike out for months at a time. What would you suggest someone in my boots do when getting on a bike is not possible at least for my snow skill sets? Thanks again for your continued valuable advice?

It is tough in colder climates. When you are driving your car though you can practice and work on Road Strategy. What would you do if anything different if you were on the motorcycle? I have a lot of videos on Road Strategy that can at least keep you in the rider mind set during the winter. www.mcrider.com/roadstrategy

Why not suggest something to practice each week vs a blank calendar. Free calendars are not that hard to come by. Just a little confused by the calendar or training tool, but agree with your point about taking time each week for training. Just seems a little clickbateish, but maybe that was the 👉 . Maybe something you could do for your paying members.
