Les Claypool, the bassist and singer, is an absolute madman and a COMPLETE BEAST on bass. Primus is super off kilter and their music is just wild and lots of fun. Don’t expect a lot of their songs to make a ton of logical sense, just kick back and enjoy the ride. They are all top notch musicians.

When i was like 18 i met les claypool. I was working at a golf course, and he was leaving the hitting range because it started to rain. I happened to have my frettless bass with me because I was going out of town after work. He waited in the rain for me to get my bass so he could autograph it, and he jammed on it for a bit.

Primus ("prime - us") is the weirdest trio that u ever experience... One of the few bands where the bass is the lead instrument. Les Claypool (bass & vocals) is phenomenal; no one can play bass like the guy... He composed & played the opening theme of 'South Park'. Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim 'Herb' Alexander (drums) are the other guys... Tim is still in Primus, but he was replaced a few times. "Wynona's big brown beaver" could refer to a woman's bush (or her BF/ lesbian lover) ... Primus is a satirical band, and they made this song in a country western style and the band wore rubber foam costumes to depict themselves as cowboys, made back in 1995. Check out some mor Primus (but keep an open mind - they are really wacky sonically) - 'American life'... 'To defy the laws of tradition'... 'Jerry was a race car driver'... 'Shake hands with beef'... The combination of Les Claypool bass, Larry LaLonde guitar and Tim Herb Alexander drums are phenomenal. Les Claypool has a live performance including guitarist Buckethead and keyboard player Bernie Worrell Parliament Funkadelic and Talking Head RIP. Worth a listen

Fun fact: Les Claypool auditioned to be in Metallica after they lost their bassist in a tour bus crash. He didn't get in. Best thing that ever happened to him. I love Metallica but they definitely never would've let Les be as weird as he needs to be. Also, check out the cover of Rush's "Anthem" Les did with some folk during the 2020 lockdown. Total banger!
