Thanks so much for posting your farming/cattle farm videos !! I can relate to your cow handling , used to have cows myself. I am actually a small farmer from the same Elm Creek Manitoba area ( just south of town). Enjoy seeing the kid's 4-H project steers at the July 1 practice day in town , prior to the big show at Carman fair. Back in the day , had a young Charlais cross heifer that store milk from other cows. Neighbor , Ernie ( A highly skilled cattleman ) installed a bull ring in her nose , theory is , she has to push the ring up with her tongue , ,can't grasped the udder teat. Actually works ,problem solved.

We tried a plastic nose ring, somehow she was able to rip it off. We also tried a steel one. Maybe a bull ring would do it. Glad you enjoy the videos,

Yeah we sometimes use a plastic ring on cattle that try and suckle from cows , they are always successful in prevention , good mixture of calves , looks like shorthorn n Hereford crosses , we find calves very rarely suffer from pneumonia when it's cold outside , certainly better than cold wet winds

Ha waiting for the trucks is nothing new..i don't wait anymore..they will wait for me from now on..too many times i have sat around all day waiting on them and a no show..i dont miss calving in February..moved ours to end of March to get away from the frigid temps and frozen ears..and yes cows are stupid ha

We have a hydrant in the barn and a pale we fill up from it

Hey just wondering how big was that one you pulled.. had one like that last year it was 129lbs biggest calf I have ever had.

Only 114lbs, looking at her history she normally has 80 lb calves. The biggest calf we have ever had was 152lbs. I wish I would of been doing videos for that birth. The cow was awesome, she just stood in the middle of the pen while I just helped with chain. Negative... calf wasn't the brightest.
