Great insight. I'm glad that you mentioned that you're not the "artsy" type. I don't see myself as an "artsy" type and I was letting that cloud my judgement. I like the balance of meetings with team members and clients as well as time for independent technical work. It seems like an interesting day. I'm currently considering pursuing a career in UX and this video was incredibly helpful in providing a picture of what that could look like. Thanks for the insight.

Tqsm for the informative content! 😍😍 I'm a diploma computer science (multimedia) student and just started my internship as UI/UX Designer few days ago! Haven't got any real task from my sv yet so I keep asking myself if I did the right choice... thanks to this vid I finally understand there's different phases and I probably join during the last phase and that's why I haven't got any task yet hahaha 😂😂😂 Btw a lil bit abt my background and why I choose to take a UI/UX intern position... Since I was a kid, I've been interested in illustrating/animating and dreaming to become an animator.. However, during my university hunting- my parents didn't allow me to pursue animation cuz it's too "unstable" and "harder to find a job".. I ended up taking diploma in CS cuz I pretty enjoyed the subject during my high school.. Fast forward and I could say I had so much fun studying CS(Multimedia)!! It's like I finally can combine both of my passion (illustrating/animating + coding) in one place! However, just for a note.. I'm not really artsy or a coding master... so UI/UX seems like somewhere I belong to..

@alternateVSNS

@@audreyo6001 hi Audrey ! you found my comment ! here is a little life update : life took a turn after the first year : in here (France) you have to spend a few months as an intern for your studying year to be recognised. I got accepted in a pretty well-known shoe company, however the internship did not go as planned : they were missing a graphic designer, rather than a web designer. I learned about very quickly, but there was no time for me to find another internship, unfortunately. so I ended up Photoshopping a lot of their products. it was essentially menial tasks or tedious, repetitive actions. It wasn’t all so bad though, after 6 months, I received two free pairs of shoes, and a very valuable lesson : I am not and will probably never be a graphic designer (not as my main activity anyways) I’ve learned useful skills though ! What about now ? well, after this mostly unsuccessful internship, I was burnt out from the pressure of work + studies + student loan. A friend who works for the national radio told me there could be a job for me, not in web but in events. Here I am, 8 months later, managing concerts and crowds, making sure everything unfolds in the best way. From UX designer to event manager in just a few months :) I really love the job I’m doing now, even though it is pretty tiring physically. And who knows, maybe I’ll pick up UX/UI again someday ? Thank you for asking though, it felt good to reflect on this wild part of my life !

Yes, absolutely, with the current situation in the world there are loads of remote roles available too. If you feel more comfortable operating in a different language, there could be work available online, lots of UX roles can be performed remotely, for global companies not just limited to English. Sticking with English though, you don't need to be fluent in the language, but being able to communicate with users and working within a team will be important to this role. Perhaps you could try reaching out to people on social platforms and arranging short interviews to practice UX focused terminologies and phrases?

You have an awesome professional career opportunity going on there for yourself. I live in Salt Lake City, USA and been trying to get my state or it's department of workforce services to sponsor me for a certification for several years, but no money or route to pay for something like a data science certification course with employment programs not assisting me in making something happen in my favor. I just discovered UX design by random chance surfing the net and find it a fascinating new tech topic of designing user interfaces of devices and systems where Windows and point and click are going to be history probably within 5 years. I just searched Craigslist jobs in my area to find one listing for UX designer. It is freelance and requires 3-5 years+ of experience designing UI / UX / interactive for consumer web or mobile applications (preferably eCommerce or gaming). I'm in my 40's now and have both associates and bachelors degrees, but find myself so grossly underemployed and unemployable realizing the past several years I need to study a certification and network into a job from that experience. However after all my many explorations and attempts out there over the years, I can't ever break into a specialized industry to apply myself, successfully sell my work, and thrive. How do you really break into something tech and knowledge oriented offering a decent career opportunity to go on? My area does have a developing tech economy and like Berlin, housing prices are surging and the area is truly urbanizing, but none of the companies nor the government want to give me a chance for they only ignore me while some are doing really awesome all around me locally in everyday visual sight. Is it quite a different kind of job market over in Europe and Germany for those who have sponsorship or are EU citizen? How do you go some place to get in the door and succeed in my own country, the USA? I just want to apply myself in a knowledge based industry like UX design or data science and thrive in order enjoy life in the moment having a decent little place to live, bills paid, savings in the bank, and a nice little car to drive.

Is this the same thing as Web Design? It seems like UX designers mainly design websites. Or is it more similar to Graphic Design?
@careerfoundry
@careerfoundry 3 жыл бұрын
Hey great question, they are similar and there is a lot of overlap, however UX designers would be looking at the experience of people using the website / product / service, whereas web designers would be looking more at the visual styling, content structures and layouts of that site. For UX designers, they would be looking at how a user would interact with the site, and how easy and accessible it is for the user to undertake the task, of find the information, that they are looking for.
