Hi Michael I hope this comment is not too direct, we love your chickens and we are really sorry to hear about the incident of the 9 chickens, we have 3 hens where we are foxes are very bad for the hens so we put up high fences and netted roof, we have to tuck them in before sunset (at the moment around 7pm). The food containers need to be hang high up to prevent rats ( rat is too cleaver so isn't really help but it's better than nothing our neighbors said.) We hope the birds are going to be safe from the predictors.

Need to get the feeder off the ground, it will attract mice and rats and they will crawl into the feeder. Feeder should be hung from a beam by wire just low enough for chickens to get to it. Mice can also jump, so consider not filling the feeder, you'll need to clean the feeder often.

The ducks would benefit from a larger pool to swim in and develop their swimming. In the winter, you'll want a heat lamp in that chicken coop for the chickens and maybe even the ducks. Do you provide the chickens with some oyster shell to build up their shells? I didn't see any out for them. The grey ones are absolutely gorgeous! Are they maybe Lavender Orpington? I used to work at a garden centre that had rescue chickens - we had a wide variety of chickens including a couple Lavender Orpingtons. I had a lot of fun naming them. We had Fritz the Frizzle, Foghorn Leghorn, Attila the Hen... Chicken names are a tonne of fun. Fritz used to chase Attila around the garden centre - it was very entertaining, watching them run circles around the customers.

You may want to build a roof structure for the feeder. So.ething with a good overhang. As temperatures drop the dew will settle on the feed turning it damp as will rain or snow. Putting it under cover will keep it drier and require less cleaning or clogs.

I suggest a lean-to or extended roof off the coop to protect the feed from the weather. Or even a " Food house" to keep feed safe. I raise meat chickens 30 000 of them every 8 weeks. Feed quality is important. Also you can chop vegtables up in little peices and they will eat that too. Google a nipple type waterer as an alternative too. Its cleaner then bowls and similar units.

Someone lied to you. Those are NOT Indian Runners. Runner ducks stand, walk and run with their whole body vertical. Your ducks look like Peking ducks. Your chickens need a wooden box 2-3 inches deep and 2 feet square. In the box you will need to put diatomaceous earth for them to take dust baths. Chickens get mites and the diatomaceous earth will keep mites off them. The mites get under the chickens skin and cause infections. Your turkeys normally need a tall building, they like to roost in high places, like trees. Be sure and trim the turkey a chicken wings so they don't fly out of the pen. Think about making your fence taller. Birds need about 10-14 hours of daylight, a good protein diet and be at least 6 months old before they will lay eggs.
@Billkwando

I hope that the psychotic dog doesn't come for the chickens again. When your cockerel gets bigger, maybe he will protect them. My dad told me horror stories of male chickens that were quite aggressive. Also, seeing the little bit of the review video was really nice. I go back and look at some of the earlier ones, especially to remind myself where you are with the cottage. It's amazing how far it's come.

Yes, the chickens will lose some feathers and slow down on the egg laying until after the winter equinox when the days start to get longer. Some people use lights on timers during the winter to keep them laying, but I think they need the break as that's their natural pattern. I hope there's room inside the hen house for the new feeder when it rains. Awesome purchases!!!

I suggest that you keep the feed in the coop under cover at all times too. That way if you are late letting them out it doesn’t matter because they have access to food and water

The metal feeder will still make the feed spoil if it gets wet, as the feed will soak up the water. If I were you, I’d put it in the coop and just throw them a bit of feed when you let them out.

Oh Gosh Michael we just had a similar thing happen with our chickens just 3 days ago. 6/8 didn't make whatever attacked them in broad daylight. The other 2 escaped. We thought it got 7 of them and only found the 1 missing but we found the second chicken the next day. So grateful she was alive still. It was devastating to loose them all, they are definitely like our pets.

Maybe a taller fence around the chickens so the dog would not be able to get in again.I would be worried about your dogs and little Ernest with that dog next door. I hope they got a fine for what their dog did and I hope they paid for the loss of your chickens. I would be so upset with your neighbors not controlling their dog,so sad for the chickens you lost.

Oh dear. "What means theese dog"....a few more non sequiturs like that, please. I am definitely agreeing with everyone else - that fence needs raising and strengthening. Chickens have dust baths to get rid of the bird mites - it's also a good idea to sprinkle powered lime on their perches and in the nesting boxes. There are probably some good hints on Google re chook care. Your birds look healthy
