I love how Hades’ theme usurps the “ominous harbinger of death” stereotype our pop culture stick him under, when he’s more like death’s overworked, reluctant manager.
@sophiesantosE
@sophiesantosE Жыл бұрын
The depiction of him in the game Hades is spot on for me in that regard. Like... He was never supposed to be the literal "devil" pop culture made him into. He is just a dude chilling in the Underworld. The worst he has done is binding Persephone to the Underworld by giving her a pomegranate or whatever, I think. Everything else happened because other gods messed up.
@Zephirite.
@Zephirite. Жыл бұрын
@@sophiesantosE yeah. And didn’t Persephone choose to eat the pomegranate because she liked Hades?
@sophiesantosE

@@Zephirite. i think most retelling say that she didn't do it willingly. But Hades usually twisted her words on that afterwards, because she did take the seeds on her own. Some retellings say, Persephone knew what those seeds would do and took them purposefully. But that might be a translation error of sorts, because it might have gotten mixed up with Persephone willingly following Hades to the Underworld. Whatever the case actually would have been, Hades treated Persephone with true respect and love, which makes him stand out from most gods.

Honestly I think it'd be funny if, with Hades having this sorta theme, Persephone still had ominous harbinger vibes. She was called Dread Persephone and was associated with the Cthonic stuff long before Hades was around historically, after all, her being brought down there by Hades is more of a retcon.

I imagine Hades argument would've been something along the lines of: "In the end I'll reunite him with everyone he loves, so if his love is true what's the rush?", it does match the vibe of the song.

To me, Hades always seemed like a kind person, at least compared to most gods. Ofc he is not perfect, made his own mistakes and such (I don't really remember many stories about him, but I do sort of remember that he took Persephone to the Underworld and most of the time does not want her to leave his side), but he is not a bad guy. He is probably just usually viewed as a bad and dark person, because he rules over a part of the Underworld which can seem menacing and creepy, even though death is part of life for mortal beings.

@@SatomiAnzuko_chan haha, thank you 🥰 i looked into Hades a bit more. Turns out the only real "bad thing" he has ever done was binding Persephone to the Underworld by giving her pomegranate seeds or something like that. He did "just take her" to the Underworld, but that wasn't his own decision but much rather was it Zeus who told him to do so. I forgot why though. Apart from that, he didn't do much. Hades is also apparently somewhat of a young deity, way younger than Persephone and Demeter. The Underworld was originally Poseidon's domain. No idea why and how Hades came into the picture. Oh and fun fact: Persephone's "nicknames", Kore e.g., apparently all more or less meant something like "girl", "maiden" or "mistress". She was hardly ever called Persephone, which might be caused by some type of great respect and even fear she evoked in people.

I really love how gentle Hades' song is. Especially compared to Zeus' or Poseidon's style (I totally loved the darkness of Get in the water, but it is an insane comparison). So Poseidon and Zeus are the enemies in this musical, and yet their elder brother sounds like the most sympathetic force in the world. I would think he’d be angry at Odysseus for not sending him more souls, but technically, he did…just not the right ones. Something tells me Hades vouches for him.

I know that she's not an Olympian, but it would be interesting to see Eris go head to head against Athena. I imagine her taunting Athena about not only losing the golden apple, but participating in the whole "fairest of them all" thing at all to the tune of.... idk ....aggressively discordant jazz maybe?
@tfly999
@tfly999 14 күн бұрын
Digging deeper, Eris probably pokes not just at Athena's vanity but also the reasons she might give for wanting the apple: "Oh, I'm wisdom, mankind should choose wisdom over anything else"... well hon, either they don't choose wisdom or they just don't choose you. Which is worse? Does it hurt that you really are so alone?
@greyscaleanon7551
@greyscaleanon7551 11 күн бұрын
@@tfly999 Personally, my theory is that Athena's otherwise-uncharacteristic interest in being "the fairest of them all" has to do with her role as the goddess of crafts. Because of that, aesthetic beauty is technically under her domain...just not in the way that you'd usually consider a person you're attracted to beautiful, but more in the way that you'd admire fine craftsmanship.

I hope that if an instrumental album ever happens, after all is said and done with Epic, that his cut part of God Games makes it in as a cut bonus track.

The Hades song reminds me of soft lullabies and similar things. It feels SO familiar, like I’ve experienced it many times before; reaching the end of a grand and satisfying adventure, quietly comforting and mesmerising, that point before you start to fall asleep and dream, reuniting with a lost one, it’s just so solacing and sombrely triumphant. It’s indescribable really. Magnificent. I adore it. Covet it like humanity yearns for the stars. I want to carve it into my heart and tattoo it onto my bones, want to pluck the sound waves from the air and tuck them away in my chest, want to feel it as I blow on dandelions and sea foam, want it to be my baby’s first experience of music and sound. How breathtakingly gorgeous and tranquil.

You know, if you ever wanted to write a musical about Hades and Persephone, you’d already have a great head start. That was really beautiful!

Can you do a live stream where you and the other voice actors just vibe with us to some of the music?

Artemis’ sounds a bit like the Zelda spirit tracks over world track, but I adore these so much. ESPECIALLY Hades good Lord I need a game with that music. I’m guessing based on how much of his song you actually added to the video you wanted to add him too 😔
