As someone who speaks Spanish, this part of the movie hit me real deep. Being able to understand her and what she was saying tugged at me so hard, because I put myself in her shoes, but I also put myself in his shoes. I wondered to myself, what would I do in this situation? And my first instinct is to try and help her as much as I can, and bring her with me. And in a scenario like this, where everyone would be fucked: we'd have to stick together. And all take care of each other. Because something like this felt very real and that it could possibly happen: whether it's staged from within or from an external attack. It felt very real, didn't it? A lot of apocalyptic movies pit people against each other. This movie is such a great reminder that we need to show empathy to one another. Even in the worst of scenarios. We need to be united, and not distrustful. If we could all trust and take care of another, not take advantage of each other, and live in peace, the world would be a much better place.

That said, why couldn't it be like that from the very beginning of humanity if we all just love and trust one another? Because greed. That's very ideal, but far from reality. People wouldn't have a problem throwing around empathy if it weren't the very thing that would make them taken advantage of.

Amen 👏👏 Duolingo IS effective. I love the Sean Ryan show, but the dude was doing an advertisement for another language learning company, and dissed language apps calling them mere “games”. Not even sure if he’s tried a language app and as much as I respect him and find him intelligent, was really confused why he said this.. because Duolingo has been winning at teaching me other languages - and FOR FREE!!!

possibly because he would have never heard the end of it from his wife lol!!! From what we are shown, he has a helpful personality, like how he welcomed the home owners when the wife was hesitant. He is helpful but he is also reasonable, nobody would have been able to understand the spanish speaking woman and it would have made everyone panic more.

Because it doesn't change anything and it just sucks ass and there's not really anything he could have done about it. But if he brought it up it would always be a question of wether he could have done something or what other people think he should have done. Maybe he gets back and finds out one of them speaks Spanish and could have helped and now it's too late and it just sucks even worse now. It's in the middle of a crisis and it's not important or really relevant to understanding or helping their situation. It's like telling them you clogged the toilet the other day and couldn't find a plunger so you just ran out and left it for the next person to find.. it's just a shitty situation you can't do anything about now and you just feel bad about it already and don't want to have to try and explain or justify yourself to other people who weren't there. How would it have helped or changed anything for the better??

but also to point out, not all spanish speakers are fluent in english, nor have they ever learned it since being here. from my perspective, i’ve only known english & never had the time to learn spanish bc there’s really no reason for it, at least for me (even tho my family is venezuelan). i feel like her urgency to get back to her house not only came from wanting to be with her family after being stranded, but some of her family members might speak english and that could be helpful if she ever happened to come across someone else who would rather shoot on sight than listen

@@RealBelisariusCawl bro you’re thinking too much that last sentence pretty much states that whatever I say about how I would behave you would say “yeah right until you’re in that situation” all I know is I wouldn’t go out like a coward I’m not scared of death what I am scared of is dying without a purpose. With that being said the movie isn’t about what you said it’s about being able to connect to one another no matter race beliefs or language barriers. Even the deer can’t speak but it lead them to the shelter because that girl was connecting with it. We’re all uncertain rn in this society nukes could go off anytime yet we’re so disconnected if we worked together we could achieve so much more and stop being slaves to the couple of families that truly pull the strings but we’re still a long way off because people like you still don’t get it

I appreciate the message the movie was trying to convey which is we should be kinder and more trusting of one anlrher but unfortunately in reality there are some very bad people out there that will do terrible things if they get the chance, I resented that the movie made out that not trusting strangers was some kind of arsehole behaviour when it’s literally a survival mechanism imbedded in us food thousands of years of learning how to avoid danger. A mother has a right to not trust anybody who comes into their house in the middle of the night and especially when it’s an end of the world scenario we see here. Not saying you can’t still make allies and form bonds but it takes time to trust people and it’s wrong to just say we should be more trusting from the get go, if you want to live you can’t afford to be so naive when we live in a world of too many wolves wearing sheep’s clothing.

Awesome! My mediocre Spanish was right. Well, mostly right. I was fairly sure I had understood her but I wasn’t confident. I actually thought I had heard her say that the 50+ deer had RED EYES the first time she spoke and I had to take it back to listen again, but my second time I heard her right. I guess I’ve gotten better with my Spanish. Either way, I would’ve let her into the car and I’m glad to know I would’ve been right to do so. “¡Vamos, vamos! I think if he would’ve understood her, he would’ve happily helped, but not understanding her and the pressure he was under he simply chose survival.
