I lived in Chattanooga 39 of 41 years, raised my children to adulthood, then left in 1999 for health reasons to move to Nashville, Tn. Pollen was brutal! Downtown was dying in late 70's thru 80's...then a turnaround was made. Chattanooga today is still a Great Place to raise children! 😊😎🤔#Awaken
@deepbluesouth3 жыл бұрын
If you're rich and white, sure, anywhere in America is a great place to raise kids. It's getting just as bad around here as it was by the early 1980's.... pollution, crime, poverty, corruption, bad roads, bad schools, and now in 2020, one of the highest rates of COVID-19 infection on the face of the earth, since most locals believe the pandemic to be some sort of liberal/commie plot to stop people from attending church. The sewers leak into the storm drains and downtown smells like raw sewage most of the year. When the Ironman competition or Redne-er Riverbend comes to town, they have to drop urinal cakes into the storm drains to keep the smell down, it's like a medieval city in summertime most of the year.

I live in Chattanooga. Originally, I grew up in Chicago. I've lived in Atlanta, Miami and Honolulu and have visited numerous other cities. People ask me "where do you like it best?" And my answer is always "Chattanooga". It has an incredible balance of nature, warmth, sensibility, and love. Great people, easy climate, low property taxes, and plenty of things to do for individuals or families - many of them for free. Bring your kayak, bring your bike, bring your appetite. All of the amenities of a big city and none of the headaches of a large city. C'mon down y'all.

No city like it. Beautiful and modern downtown with numerous upscale hotels. Enough parks, trails, and forested areas to keep you going for years. An amazing arts district over by the bluff. Five museums. Progressive businesses. Great schools. Friendly service minded law enforcement. Lookout mountain. Civil war history. So, so many things. It's a midsize city with small town charm, and the friendliest people on the planet. I lived and worked in Atlanta for seven years and regretted it. The day I came back to Chattanooga I breathed a sigh of relief. Yes, it has become an artsy city full of craft breweries and bicycle shops and Co-ops, but that just adds to the charm. You have to see it to believe it.
@deepbluesouth3 жыл бұрын
You have to be delusional or on dope to believe any of this. The police are crooked, violent jerks; the pollution rivals most cities with three to five times the population, most affordable local hobbies are drinking, driving, and doing both at once. History...? Yeah, if you believe the "lost cause" narrative and genuinely wish that the confederacy won the war. I've never seen so many alcoholics, drug addicts, and homeless people in a city of this size. Wages are 50-75% below the national average [especially for people of color], and poverty rates are extreme. Basically, all of the major problems of a large city, with none of the social or economic benefits. It's a huge tri-state ghetto.

@@micaylalaid1617 There are some good people here. But my advice about avoiding the bads. The bads will be finding any reason to be in your face trying to be a "friend". They'll be trying to talk you to death as you are moving in. Never be their friend. They just trying to see what you got and get a feel to see if they can use you for anything. If your renting, make landlords show you what you gonna be working with and to be honest. Many will lie to tell you what you want to hear and give you the image of something untrue. A majority of landlords especially on the lower income side are scumbags who'd expect you to pay rent in conditions not fit even for rats so becareful of those types if you are renting. Aside from that, it's the usual. The good places costs an arm and a leg, and the cheap ones are likely crime ridden or near places where crime is happening. Also one of the places that hosted a lot of the crime is getting demolished soon, 1 of those projects already been. (both projects don't like each other) so those gangsters and dealers are gonna be thrown all over the place unless they got some plan they haven't announced yet. Just becareful there. It's liveable, but nothing special. And oh before I forget, the teachers may be all smiles, but don't trust them either. They'll insult your child in a second even if your child didn't do anything. Especially if your unfortunate enough to have a child zoned to the east lake side of things.

I mean, they were bent and crooked and scratched, but he stole them... if I had everything back that's been stolen from me around here, they'd wanna steal that too. Don't move to Chattanooga so much crime and it's already crowded roads.. Nashville TN or Asheville NC much better options ..

@@deepbluesouth Lol. Cost of living is a lot higher in both Nashville and Asheville, also Nashville traffic is wayyyyyy worse.

@KenKen-ui4ny3 жыл бұрын
@@nathancoflin9295 Both Chattanooga and Nashville are growing cities, yes the cost of living is higher in Nashville, but it's still nowhere near as expensive as cities up in some of the northern states, part of the reason why people are moving south to both, same with the traffic, Nashville may have more intense traffic then Chattanooga, but it's not that way worse compared to Atlanta, and definitely NYC or LA, which are the two leading cities in bad traffic of America.

Chattanooga has had an unfair advantage for more than 150 years. Ever since Yosemite Sam showed up at Engel Stadium in Southern Fried Rabbit, he's been able to keep the Yankees at bay by announcing that the first Yankee that had the audacity to come out of the dugout would get his head blasted off. Maybe, we can all become Yosemite Sam's if the Yankee elites try to take over in 2020. I am ready to do my share of head-blasting. I'll be fortifying on South Crest, after our group rips out that awful Yankee historical marker of the mistake known as Illinois.

Chattanooga used to be a great city. Now it is becoming overcrowded and filled with Yankees and Immigrants. My family has been here since the 1840s and I can say that while there is alot that makes me proud, there is more that makes me wring my hands. I wish Volkswagen would never have come here.

Mr. Dynamite Gaming, what do you base your accusation on? That is such a pejorative term for you to use so freely with no basis in fact. With all due respect Mr. Gaming, what was it in my statement that you saw, that fits with the Webster's definition of "racist"? It seems like these days that "racist" is the go-to word to try and disparage someone you don't agree with or shut down the free flow of ideas. I think people would just as soon be called a "murderer" rather than be called a racist. Anyway, I digress- I look forward to hearing from you Mr. Dynamite Gaming.
