It is heartbreaking to see someone with a level of developmental disability try to hard in an honest way to make friends and know exactly what she’s doing wrong but she’s so excited and happy to have a friend and spend time with him. This honestly breaks my heart because this same thing almost happened to my mentally challenged uncle. He suffered brain damage at 8 years old that has pretty much left him mentally at that age, and he doesn't seem to understand the concept that kids and adults are not the same. He just wanted to be friends with everyone and once when my older brother was supposed to be watching him, he fell asleep and my uncle had wondered outside and through the neighborhood. And keep in mind this is a man who isn't mentally stable, so when he left the house he didn't realize he needed more than boxer shorts on. And like her, he had no intent to harm the kids he ended up talking to, nor did he have any sexual motive. He was just confused and he was extremely lonely because back then his mom (our grandma) wouldnt let him leave the house at all. We only found him because several officers were sent to the house he was at. When we got there it broke my heart because my uncle was just sobbing in the back of the car because nobody explained to him what was wrong. They just called him sick and a pervert (he doesn't know what that means) and all he knew was now people were angry at him and they tied his hands up and put him in an unfamiliar car. After a while charges were dropped but seeing that reminds me why I take care to socialize him properly now that grandma is dead and he's allowed to see the sun

Even as a neurodivergent adult, this honestly breaks my heart - I've known adults who've had developmental issues or who are also neurodivergent who can't really handle being around adults, but kids? It's the only group they feel at home with, because kids have big hearts + big imaginations. It hurts to know that there ARE definitely people like Crazy Eyes irl who really don't have that space, and may feel trapped in their bubble like myself to the friends/family they *have* vs the people they want to be around or feel happiest with. Not having that network is a struggle, regardless of if you're neurotypical or not. 🥺💔 All she watched was a friend, and in the end she made a mistake & they both got hurt out of fear... @c.w.simpsonproductions1230 Жыл бұрын
Seeing this, it makes sense why her sister wont see her. It's likely down to a combination of factors: She already had a complicated relationship with "Crazy Eyes" from their childhood, their parents doted on her more, she was constantly overworked taking care of her, and the first time she took some time off, her sister unwittingly kidnapped a child which led to his death. I suspect there was quite a media circus, and likely lawsuits from the boy's grieving family. In tragedies like this, everyone around the killer gets blasted as well, friends, family, associates. She was likely blasted on the news and online, and that type of abuse leaves scars. All of those various factors: the guilt of the boy's death, being blamed by some for it, her name being dragged through the mud, the trial, her parents continuing to support Susan, had to take their toll. It makes sense that she'd want to cut off her sister completely. In her mind, Crazy Eyes likely symbolizes all the misery and suffering in her life.

Shows like this I appreciate. I loved OITNB and was so sad it ended. I appreciate shows when they shine light into a lot of every day things that happens especially when it involves mental illnesses. Not a lot of people out there are aware of it bc not a lot of info has been put out there. Too many things have been overlooked by society.

her story makes me so sad. she was failed by the people who were responsible for her. thats why people turn out like this. they have autism or some other disorder and need certain help because of it, and when they dont get that help this is what happens. she should get actual genuine psychological help, therapy, meds, whatever. she did still kidnap and through negligence, kill a kid. but shes not a monster.

To the people asking why she is in jail and not a mental asylum, I believe it’s because a child died. If it was just the kidnapping, they would understand that it’s not jail that she needs, but when a child dies because she technically kidnapped him, it’s a whole other situation. It’s usually a done deal when you are responsible for a child’s death.

Why is it that most people in these comments only care about Suzanne but don't seem to have any empthy for her sister or the boy that died b/c of Suzanne's actions??
@Isaacthedondada8 жыл бұрын
+Donna Brooks no... Her sister could have hired a care giver. And people don't sympathize for the little boy as much because he isn't a maim character. They are more in tune with Su. When they watch the show they see Su, so their comments will be about her. Btw when you take in a mentally unstable person, you have to find a way to cope. If her sister knew she would want to be separate from her, they have homes for that. It could have been avoided, no one is saying her sister had to give up life for her.
@curlyq12918 жыл бұрын
+Donna Brooks yeah I see what you are saying but people do feel bad for the little boy because it was an accident that could've been avoided. If Grace had someone watch her or sent her to stay with another relative or something none of this would have happened. I also agree that it shouldn't of been just Graces responsibility to look after Susan. It is sad that Grace took a chance and it didn't end will...

If you look back at the childhood aspect, the sister grew up in the family that always pushed Susan too much. The sister was under the impression "she'll be fine" because that's what she was taught since she was young. It all comes back to the parents not accepting their kid had a mental condition or accepting and never doing anything about it.

This video clip is such a powerful example of real life mental health challenges that occur in our society. In this situation, Suzanne is not at fault for her actions because her mental health diagnosis precludes her ability to think logically and intelligibly. In her case, she absolutely should have 24/7 access to a steward of care. Her sister, being her legal guardian, is at fault by nature for not ensuring Suzanne's safety and wellfare, thereby also protecting others from these kinds of incidents. Ideally, Suzanne should never have gone to jail to begin with--she should have been admitted to an inpatient psychiatric facility and her sister should have gone to prison for involuntary manslaughter of a minor. This scenario breaks my heart because this truly does represent the world we are living in, where people who need specialized help are ignored and are routinely thrown to the wolves in prison where they are not able to function or cope with their stress, which can easily lead to severe increases in depressive and suicidal thoughts, outbursts of verbal and/or physical aggression and anger, and generally, just further makes them out to be villains when it is simply all due to them being grossly neglected. It is beyond shameful the way our system demonizes mental health patients.

I haven’t seen all of this show, but I haven’t had a jaw drop like this in years. This is so sad. It was innocent, but how could a kid ever understand an adult who acts like that? I’m surprised she didn’t get insanity on this. Her sister should’ve provided a carer/nanny for her while she was gone. She should not have left her alone while being so far away. She should’ve done it gradually. Like staying in a hotel for one night, and then come home and shit like that. Think I agree with some of the commenters here that the sister also should have to pay up in at least a civil suit to those parents. SAME! I remember a conversation I had at the lunch table in kindergarten and one of my classmates said “Teachers live at the school! They eat here and sleep here!” Then another one of us argued that they didn’t. I was on the side that they did live in the school! My theory was there was a secret upstairs with living quarters.

Okay here’s the thing: Suzanne was obviously mentally unwell from a young age, maybe autistic or just neurodivergent, but she needed counseling and she wasn’t trying to be creepy or weird but she’s just not used to being alone. It’s actually heartbreaking to see how alone she’s always been.

I don't know what to say about her backstory. Yes, Suzanne was going over the edge, but she didn't know that. She never had any malicious intent about keeping Dylan at her house, she just wanted a friend. Her caregivers should have had her stay with a relative or in a nursing home for a few days. Her caregivers should've thought about her and others wellbeing before just leaving her all alone.

+Diane Archen I think that people in her sister's position know damned well that something bad could happen; they just convince themselves that the odds are against it.

Uzo Aduba does such an amazing job. She's terrifying and completely sympathetic at the same time. She's probably going to win the Emmy next year for these scenes.

I get why her sister needed a break but she should have arranged for their parents or someone else to check on her. It’s just a tragic situation all around, it didn’t need to happen.

That kid wasn’t in the wrong for calling 911; he truly didn’t know where he was and panicked. If anything, I blame Suzanne’s parents for their overprotective nature and not getting Suzanne ready for the real world or the help she needs. She needed a lot of mental help, preparation for life and friends her own age.

It's actually not Suzanne's parents fault either. All the preparation for the real world and how to deal with people still would not help who she is. She is who she is. Who is to say that she didn't get all the behavioral therapy money can buy and was surrounded by great individuals who taught her valuable skills. Some things are just the way they are despite the efforts of people that work endlessly to make it not so.

Is so sad. Hard to watch because we all know she would never hurt anyone but the family rightfully deserves justice. She is obviously not able to function effectively on her own and her sister as her guardian had a legal duty to care for her. Why is her sister never charged for leaving her alone for days?
