I used to think the same way. I have used a Floyd rose for over 11 years. After many frustrations, I didn't pick up my FL for years. IT seemed as though when it worked, it was great and if it didn't it was trash. After about 5 years of research, I discovered: 1. When replacing the strings, you have to take the whammy bar off. 2. When replacing the strings, replace one string at a time starting with low E string) 3. Never take off all of the strings. (The bridge will fall into your guitar and it's a nightmare) 4. After all of the strings are replaced, tune all strings. (****Remove the locking nuts at the top prior to tuning*****) 5. Stretch each string upwards about an inch above the fretboard. 6. Re-tune 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until it is tuned even after you stretch the strings. 8. Put on locking nuts. (Tight, but not too tight.) 9. Fine tune is your absolute last step. If you've done this correctly, you will only have to use fine tuners very slightly. 10. Your guitar should be in tune for at least a few weeks. (Just minor fine-tuning.) ******Tips: If you use any strings above size 9, you may have some issues and would have to adjust the springs in the back****** ******Tips: If you want to adjust the size of your strings at any time, the springs in the back have to be adjusted******** ******Tips: If you want to increase your string size, you must add another spring in the back to compensate for the new weight of the heavier strings.**** I hope this helps. The Floyd Rose and Edge 3 are very similar. There is a slight difference, but these instructions work the same as the edge 3. I am not an expert or a sponsor for Floyd Rose, but this just worked for me. I haven't had any problems since out of any of my Floyd Rose guitar. They are amazing to me!

Nah, there are ways around all of that. You can push the bar down, and loosen all of the string lock screws if you put a block behind the bridge to keep it from dropping back. That is just one method.

I don’t do these and I don’t have that issue xD. I take a cap from my wax containers, place it under the bridge and it’s in the perfect place. Cut all strings, replace all strings, ball end at the tuners, cut strings and bam perfect windings everything’s exactly where it should be.

Fyi floyd Rose bridges use spring tension to keep your guitar tuned. That spring tension is key to tuning your guitar the way you want it tuned.
@BernardoB

I do know that, you should check and adjust the tension even when you change the brand of the strings you use.. Even if the gauge is the same, that totally messes with my head too lol

Hi Corey, I think it will mainly depend on setup if the parts are of good quality. I only have experience with 6 point tremolo systems but allegedly 2 point will be better for tuning stability. It is just a matter of doing a bit of research, any good strat I have tried without a Floyd has kept tuning mostly fine, same for PRS's :)

I felt the exact same way before I bought my player strat HSS w/ floyd rose. After learning everything there is to know about setting up and maintaining a floyd rose on youtube and forums I can now say that I love it. I only bought the guitar because it was super on sale but now I'm so glad I have it. The tuning stability is so great when using the tremolo, even though I can get a standard tremolo to stay in tune really well also it's just not on the same level as the floyd. It's not for everybody of course but I really enjoy mine.

When u don’t understand how to work on them you will hate them but when you learn how to work on them and some little tricks to make them work great then you will like them much better. Some people don’t know you can set them up and/or buy a guitar that only dives so u can’t pull up on them and many people would like this style much better specially if u rest the palm of ur hand on the bridge and have a heavy hand the bridge won’t get pushed down making the strings sharp and u can make the springs tight as u want and it won’t change the tuning so u can drop tune without adjusting the springs u only adjust them to make the trem easier to use it’s basically like having a fender trem that most people just tighten the springs so the trem isn’t floating but it will stay in tune much better then a fender. Again if u have a full floating Floyd you will like it if you learn how to work on them, some times u need to play around with different springs, using less or more springs, putting the springs in different positions, trying out different strings, every guitar is different u can put the same Floyd in 2 different guitars but the springs and strings will work very different. IMO everyone should have one guitar with a Floyd it’s just another tool in the tool box and it can be inspiring you might be burned out musically but then u pull out a guitar with a Floyd and feel like playing.
@BernardoB

My question to your whole comment is: Why would you need/want a Floyd if you don't want it to go up? The flutter is the coolest, most unique effect if can produce IMO. If I'd get a guitar with a Floyd Rose it would be 90% because of it, I now have a strat with a vintage trem and honestly I am loving it besides the occasional tuning issue it causes, wish I could do the up effect with it hehe

Not all Floyd Roses are created equal ;) Dude, that guitar has a cheap shit quality bridge :) its not a real Floyd Rose. Of course it cannot stay in tune. You need to experience a REAL Floyd Rose like the Made In Germany Originals or Japanese Gotohs. You dont see professionals like Dimebag, EVH or Steve Vai with crap beginner guitar bridges. OFR and Gotohs are a whole different world. I have played entire shows with extreme bar abuse with no tuning issues. Same with the top-end Ibanez Edge (NOT Edge III), they are extremely good too. Steve Vai wouldn't go around playing with a Edge Lo-TRS III bridge. Many people base their crappy experiences with Floyd Roses on CHEAP GUITARS with CHEAP VERSIONS OF THIS BRIDGE. Once you try the real Germany ones, they stay in tune really well. And they have MUCH BETTER arm holders too, they dont flop around!
