That is 100% correct. I’ve met many of both groups and hippies are always just complete demons on the inside, and the metal heads I’ve met just have a very hard exterior. Chain wallets and black clothing, yet they’re always very sweet.

I used to work with a guy who one day came into my office asking if I was eating meat! He was very upset that I'd gone down the street and got a burger and was eating it at my desk. He said, "When you die, you'll have a pound of undigested meat in your intestines!" to which I replied, "When you die, you'll be just as dead never knowing what a good burger tastes like" and he wasn't happy about that.. He was a very fit guy, ran marathons, rode his bike to work, etc. Last I heard, he died of a heart attack running on his treadmill at home. Never knowing what a good burger tasted like...

It's also about sufficient resources and efficient productivity in order to feed millions of people. There's not a lot of meat on small pets to offset the cost of raising and processing them for sale. Whereas Cows, one segment alone, provides more meat than 4-5 smaller animals. Once the U.S. became efficient in Cow herding and processing, beef and then pork, were then able to sustain the population to the point of eradicating starvation. Thus, for Americans, it became less Culturally appropriate to eat small animals/rodents, as it was no longer a necessity for survival, unless living in an extremely rural region with no access to meat markets. Also, as the Nation boomed in industrial and technological advancements, household income and leisure time grew to a point where having pets became common place. And thus started Americas affinity for pets, and thus concern for the ethical treatment of animals started to grow.

All animals are fair game, its just realizing the circle of life. Just don't go taking animals that are pets and eating them, but if they are raised as lifestock then they are part of the food source. Other animals decide whether an animal is edible based on whether they can kill them or find them fresh, we have the absolute luxury to choose from all animals. Having that luxury has confused some people, poor vegans (unless it's just a diet/religious choice not a personal unfounded moral choice which is the type of vegan above.) There isn't a difference aside from our feelings which is different for everyone, so you have to look at the reality that anything is fair game.

Why is it ok to eat a cow but not a cat? Because it's not efficient. Cats eat the same things we eat. So, raising a cat depletes our own food supply, while not getting much meat in return. Meanwhile, cows, goats, chickens, sheep, etc, they all eat plants we can't digest and convert it into tons of meat that we can. Cultural and biological evolution is a fascinating thing because our ancestors through generations of trial and error found the most efficient ways to obtain nutrients and now look at us. Edit: man, I love this community. I can say this stuff and instead of getting insulted and yelled at, I spark an actual thoughtful debate on the efficiencies and cultural evolution of domesticated food vs domesticated pets.

If it was a matter of efficiency, we'd eat ze bugs. Dogs were used for hunting, guarding, shepherding, cats killed vermin in homes and foodstocks. We don't eat cats and dogs because through domestication and proximity they became closer to furbabies and further away from steak.

She's actually right, there's evidence to suggest that plants even have a nervous system of sorts and can feel "pain" (the smell of freshly cut grass, for example, is actually a trauma response that has been compared to a human scream). Besides which, humans are omnivores, which contrary to what some vegans argue doesn't mean "can CHOOSE to eat meat OR plants", it means "should eat a balanced diet of BOTH meat and plants for optimal health". It is possible to live a moderately healthy life as a vegan, but you have to take all kinds of supplements which are artificial and thus by definition not as good for you as getting the vitamins fresh from the food source. Veganism is neither more moral nor healthier than eating a balanced diet from ethical sources.

most people who eat meat more than green vegetables lack in nutrients and specific vitamins. Best diet is a balanced one between meat and vegetables. Both ends on the extremes are wrong

@@sp4rklsz This is not fully true at all. Many vegetables that are "healthy" like kale and spinach the body has a hard time breaking down and processing to get the actual nutrients needed. Now ROOT vegetables and fruits? That is a different story. They are way more nutrient dense and are designed to be more easily eaten. because despite popular belief, the full plants do not want to be eaten and are designed to not be. Fruits which grow ON plants are designed to be eaten because that is how the plants reproduce. And root veggies are so nutrient loaded that the plants grow FROM them (which are NOT eaten for good reason).

My grandma would give up a pig and in return take back most of the meat from a neighbor that didn't mind slaughtering it in exchange for a share of it. Maybe even added in some eggs and collard greens to the deal idk.

My cousin was vegan, and I, along with many of my other family members, didn't even know it until she told us she stopped being vegan. She ate her food in peace, and everytime we had a family dinner together, she would never say even a peep. She was one of the chill ones.

I personally don't really get the core issue, I view us humans, as animals, they don't seem to have issues with a wolf eating a sheep or whatever, why is it an issue when humans eat other animals? I know we have the "option" to a degree, but still, other animals are great sources for certain things we humans need, and where does their line in the sand go? Is fish an issue? Deer I shoot myself? Whenever I have had "discussion" with them IRL, that really fast ended up in shouting from them and calling me literally nazi, I really never have gotten the answer. And I am sorry, but I enjoy eating a lot of different food types, the few vegans I know are the saddest people on earth, that seems to look at everything like doom is upon them any minute.

Sounds like you need to open your mind too and meet more people lol. For many vegans it’s about the treatment of the animals before slaughter, especially at industrialized meat farms. It’s absolutely disgusting, horrific and psychotic, and I think any person with a grain of empathy would feel it’s wrong on some level. Ofc there are more extreme vegans but I think majority just advocate for ethical treatment of animals. There’s also data backing up health benefits from eliminating meat Also before anyone comes at me im not even vegan. I’m considering the shift tho because Ive seen some horrid shit (ie dog meat trade) and just can’t in good conscience financially contribute to an industry that has no respect for other species and treats them like trash

I know several vegans who are super chill people. They didn't advertise it to the whole world, and generally kept to themselves that they were vegan to begin with. It's the "vegans" who try to force everyone else into being vegan that are the problem. I have zero issues cooking for my vegan friends. But I will NEVER, listen or cook for someone who acts like this. My vegan friends hate this kind of behaviour.
