I've raised tons of roosters and none have ever attacked me. My current 2 beg for food follow me around and love to be petted. I'm sorry you guys have had such a hard time with yours. I found it helps to handle roosters from when their young and continue to do so even as they are adults. Having more hens help. Pulling talons can help with them hurting you. They could just be stressed as well.

We have had five roosters, two, of which, were out for blood and one of them did some damage to my leg. We raised all from chicks. They are not worth butchering. We killed the two worst behaved and gave one away. I found that two boys to 30 girls was a good ratio.

You can train your roosters To be respectful. I learnt the trick from other KZfaq homesteaders on here. Catch up the rooster and then with one hand put pressure on him to sit on the ground and using your thumb and first finger on the other hand put pressure on him to lay down his head. Then wait until he calms down before release. Repeat this daily for a few days up to a week and he will look at you very differently. The only damage being to his pride. I tried this on a friend's rooster that he was giving up on and has had no trouble since.

I've used this tactic too, and going into my flock the Rooster, his name is Manson he's a silver wyndotte, either gives me a wide berth.. or comes up to me if I've got food. 0 problems since doing the 'showing dominance' thing.

I’ve done this as well with my roosters and it works. Every time I hold them, I do this and they are quite respectful. But each family member has to do it with each rooster.

I have a rooster who is a royal little nugget. He tried to attack me once. Fortunately he didn't hurt me. I have handled him ever since I had him has a cockrell. After that I went on KZfaq to search out deal with a rooster. I found this guy and he pinned the rooster on the ground including his head for 15 seconds. The bird was not harmed, just put in a submissive position. He also said anyone bothered by the bird has to do that. I did that and Doolittle my rooster he still charges, but he stops about 3 feet from me. A squirt bottle also helps too. Most importantly you got to do what you feel is best for your family. Which by the way you children are growing so fast. I love watching your channel. You and Becky are doing an awesome job!

Just watched your show and your Rooster the Silver Phoenix is what I have. Lucky for me only one and he is a mean one too. He has already attacked me off guard in the eye. Had to go to ER and lucky for me they did a CT scan. They found I had a brain tumor. People asked me if I have killed him yet? To that I say, "How do you kill something that just saved your life?" I hate him butt..... and life on my mini farm would be better without him. How did he get mixed in with a bunch of Easter egger's If he is a Silver Phoenix? The end of this story is the brain tumor is out and I'm recovering at home. I'm not myself yet but getting better with each day. I'm waiting for plastic surgery on my eye area and to align the eye ball with the other eye because he has caused me to have double vision. I was sitting down on my van steps and that rooster saw me when my head pooped from around the corner and sucker attacked me right off the step. Please be careful of your children with your Rooster. Thanks for sharing

The best thing to do with a mean rooster is to flip them upside down. I have a rooster named will. He was a very mean bird. Whenever I would let the ladies out, he’d chase me and give me bruises from him attacking me with his spurs. My Aunt came over and taught me a good way to calm a rooster down. Simply grab the rooster by the feet, hang them upside down until their wings are open and they stop flapping. Hold them for awhile. This will show that your the boss. After doing this for a few days, they should no longer chase you.

Roosters have no fear .. they fight to the death . If you hit them or swat at them...this to them means you want to fight . The only success I've had with aggressive birds is to grab them and hold them down with your hand on they're back . When they calm down and have submitted...let them go . This is the way they establish a pecking order. I have had birds that I thought for sure were gonna meet they're end . But after doing this a couple times thy "catch a grip" !! Lmao 🤣

If you notice, the daughter slaps at and hits the rooster with her bucket. Personally, I feel it's poor training to allow a child to abuse an animal like that. But that is just my opinion, of course, it appears they have gotten whatever animal would look good on camera or they'd be able to breed and sell. Again, that's just my opinion after occasionally viewing over the years. But, what do I know, eh?

Some breeds are more aggressive than others but I have found that handling them often when small helps especially if you can intervene when they are being picked on. One of my kindest roosters was one that was picked on a lot when small and I would go out and scoop him up and hold him for a while just so he could rest. That rooster never once showed aggression to me his whole life, he also always made eye contact with me when I spoke to him. I have no doubt that was due to all the times I rescued him from being bullied.

I have found roos that grow up together tend to be friendlier towards each other. Otherwise it tends to be a bit more strained. I had my brahma roo and his son, and they couldn't stand each other, even though PB was 6 years old and wasn't doing much breeding anymore. But, on the other hand, I have my black jersey roo (Toecutter 6yrs) and his half Sussex son(TJ 3yrs) that always roost together and share a harem without any issues. I tend to keep my batchlors like you are, in their own groups without hens. Sometimes they end up meat birds, others are waiting for their hens to grow up to breeding age. I mostly have large breeds though, with a few old bantam. I try and keep my bantams separate from my standard and giants. I have actually had a couple accidents of giants stepping on bantams and hurting them. Though I recently received a young whitehackle roo that was being a trouble maker at a friend's place and put him in with 2 brahma girls. When he tried getting aggressive with Cleo, she would spin around and sit on him lol. He stopped being a jerk.

We had a mean arse rooster when I was a kid. He used to chase my niece around and she absolutely hated him to no end. She was maybe two and he got her good one day and she went running to my dad crying. Well gpa picked her up and loved on her a bit and settled her down and then told her that if he hurt her again to tell him and we’d have fried chicken for dinner. I should add here that my daddy was a butcher and she was a farm girl through and through, so she knew what he meant. I was sitting on the porch and watching her play and that rooster puffed up to head her way and she saw him starting to come at her and she threw her hand up like a boss and yelled at him was some serious authority. He stopped, they stared at each other for a good few minutes and she stomped off and straight into the house. Well I obviously had to follow to see how this was gonna play out. She stomped her mad little self right up to paw paws recliner, woke him up and gave him an earful about that “dumb woosta”. Gpa stood up and took her by the hand and she stomped him right back out, pointed at the roster, stomped her foot, folded her arms and just glared at said rooster. Well, long story short, we did indeed have fried chicken for dinner. I thought for sure she was gonna lose her stuffing when daddy dispatched that “dumb woosta” but she watched the whole process and even helped him pluck it. She was happy to be done with him attacking her every time she turned around, but she does have a definite connection to where our food comes from as well as respect for the animals we eat. Asking her about it later in life if it scares or traumatized her she said no that it hadn’t but it was a learning experience for sure.

Even the smallest would make good chicken stock that you could put up for winter soups.

I live in Washington State, I'm small flock farming and would love an expansion of Cochin roo, a 6 pack of girls for him and a starter pack of Cornish cross.

A top to a guinea pig cage works great to catch chickens. You can slap it down over them and then open the top door to take them out.

Maybe you need ear fly tags. They work great to reduce flys on your cows!

Hope that the farm will function smoother now that you’ve tried to resolve the rooster problem, I recommend maybe putting some more roosters from the rooster coop in a different coop.

Having enough hens also help with rooster aggression. In my experience the more the handle a rooster as they age the more tame they become. Mine actually begs for food and pets. I just got another one. I know you guys don't have time for that though. Sometimes pulling talons out help as well.

There’s a video on spur removal. I was doubtful but it worked. They grow back just like our nails and it wasn’t hard to do.

I have been hatching out a lot of baby chicks and I have a lot of roosters to deal with and I never thought of putting them all in one area together without hens thanks for the idea 😊
