After changing the oil on my wife's Rav4 I realized the coolant reservoir was empty, so I proceeded to investigate and make the fix

use the original clamps, it is superior than those clamps

Didn’t have a the pliers that went with them so went with the other style so they were easier to close, but yes they aren’t “automotive” clamps and probably not quite as good

Yeah..the original clamps they tighten over time as are spring loaded.

Great point, didn’t show it but important to start it and let the thermostat open and make sure reservoir is topped off and air out of system

It is strongly recommended that you use the original spring clamp. The screw buckle is not elastic and will loosen due to vibration.

Don’t use worm gear clamps for hoses. They do not expand and contract with heat cycles. Use the spring loaded ones that were removed.

I had this EXACT same issue on my Rav4, but in my case, I was changing the battery and it bumped into that part. It was so bridle it broke and started to leak all over the place. You can tell someone has worked on that specific issue if you see those metal screwdriver clamps. Nice tutorial !!

3 gal of that pink Coolant, from the Lexus “Dealer”, cost me over $130.00. Where did you go??

Coolant at Toyota dealership! And I just got 1 gallon so probably would’ve been close to $100 for 3

Great job! Only ONE comment. Those worm clamps are NOT good for plastic fittings. U should use tension clamps over u HAD at first. 👍🇺🇸

Thanks Rice, yup monitoring the worm ones for failures and will replace with tension ones when they have issues

Only problem is you used worm clamps which will cause another leak. Always use the factory pinch clamps. They're constantly putting pressure on hose where as the worm clamps are set where ever you stop tightening.

If your spring clamps wernt broken I advise you to put them back on . Those twist ones are absolutely junk and will leak

Totally wrong procedure 1. Use original clamps 2. Clean the entire radiator system with distilled water 3. After pouring the coolant, run the engine do dispose any bubbles trapped. 4. Bleed the entire radiator system properly

Those clamps are no good , Toyota sells the clamps , you need the that the car came with , because with heat the clamps move , again those clamps are no good

Hate how every mechanic shop I go to never has OEM clamps. Or for the love of god they lose the ones my radiator came with. Pricks.
