Here's some reasons why I think we're feeling a bit poopy atm.
Sorry for all the swears. Do a shot every time I say sh*t. I'm aware there's so many other potential contributing factors, but here's a start....

You’re absolutely on the money - in my early teens we’d have to wait for an album to come out in the shops, one of us would usually save up for it & we’d all hang out together to listen to it. Having everything so instantly accessible really does take away the joy X

I do feel like everyone’s heads are too full of content these days, you’re so right. I’m always taking about my “brain shelf” because I constantly feel like there’s too much going on in my head with social media, life, trying to always be productive, being constantly contactable by everyone, wanting to seem consistently sociable etc and then I get overwhelmed and my husband is like “are there too many things on your brain shelf right now?” 😅

Thank you so much for making this video! I deleted social media about 2 years ago now. I would get jealous watching friends go out together to restaurants or events that I knew deep down I did not want to attend - it was just the fact that I wasn't there. After deleting it, I haven't looked back. I have conversations with friends and meet up for dinner and drinks and am genuinely interested at their news because I don't know what's going on in their lives from social media. I also found that people having too much access to my life gave me anxiety about "oversharing" or "did I say too much?". All in all - THANK YOU! Thank you for all of your content Helen, and being so down to earth and genuine

hello, any tips on quitting social media? love instagram and the pages I follow, and Facebook for messaging and market place plus a few groups I follow - feel like if I quit it completely I will miss out on businesses advertising bits/events. How do you keep up-to-date with things?

Social media has made us the most connected and disconnected at the same time. It's wild, and sad tbh. We have so much access to other people all over the world yet people care so little about each other.

Anytime I do a scroll on my phone now I make a conscious effort to catch myself when I start doing it for too long and I literally tell myself in my head ‘ok I don’t need anymore now’ and I just come off it. Worked absolute wonders for me for focus, productivity and mood. Such a simple thing to do but we forget so often to do it! But just come off your phone. Just catch yourself when you start feeling glued to that screen. Xx

Deleting Instagram was the best thing I've done for myself in recent years. I also noticed it's totally changed my behavior, I now enjoy experiences differently, and I maybe take one or two photos but then put my phone away and focus on only what I'm doing and not thinking about what can be uploaded to socials. I also realised I stopped giving fucks about both what people are doing and also what other people think about what I'm doing. I keep Facebook because I use it to actually get hold of some people/my outdoor swimming group, but that's it and it's so freeing. Watching some creators on KZfaq is the only other social media I consume because it's easier to vet channels. Thanks for being one of the ONLY relatable content creators on here who lives a normal life which is actually relatable to normal people

I agree with this 100%...removing instagram does wonders for your mental health. Not worrying about what others think about you/how you look and not having to check it for validation is really refreshing.

This video is great, and I resonated with everything you just said. It explains a lot as to why I’ve been feeling a certain way about certain things. The instant gratification 100% agree. It’s one of the many reasons why I like how Disney+ release an episode on a weekly basis. My partner complains about it, but I like to watch one episode a week, process it in get excited for the next one and really take it in which is something people don’t do anymore as we like to binge which I never had the attention span to do anyway. Also, I remember when you were younger going out for something simple like lunch or to go and feed the ducks was exciting. As an adult, I find it harder and harder to find outings and things to do with my partner that actually excite me. Is that because we stretched at Rome so much that to do something exciting it costs lots and lots and lots of money and you need to plan way for in the future. All the fact that everything is really expensive and you spend a little bit extra money on something and then realise it wasn’t worth the extra money and you get sad about it. All this kind of stuff, but this video was really enlightening. 💙

So much resonates with me. I have made efforts to limit short form content as I realise it has actually reduced my ability to concentrate which is awful. I have also made sure I leave my workplace during breaks and lunch to get some fresh air and away from the negative comments about work/changes/life etc as that impacts me hugely. Finally the being grateful for all I have (which I am) doesn't mean we can't feel low or fed up with things going on in our lives. Love your take on things

Hey Helen, it's been already 9 years since I have been following you and it's freaking amazing to see your constant improvement through all this years and somehow growing together with you and your channel. I like the fact that you always stay true to yourself. That's also the reason, I would say, why I've never stopped watching your videos and yeaah I have to give a comment particularly on this one, because the topic itself is very good and helpful. By the way, I def. share your opinions. Keep up the good work girl ❤ greetings and love from rainy Germany 👋

Thank you very much for this video at just the right time. When you explained how you felt in the last video, I was very surprised that someone described it so similarly. I've been watching your videos for so many years and I find the person you show there simply incredible. It seems honest and unfiltered. While I was listening, I thought of a video of yours. You were sitting in the car and crying. I've never forgotten that video because it felt like one of the most real videos I've ever seen on KZfaq. I'm grateful for that because it's good to not just see fake people online and it deserves a huge amount of respect. Thank you. ❤

Love this video ❤ i can resonate a lot with what you’ve just said… I always worry and assume what people are thinking of me in either social situations, work situations, but it’s all in my head, no one’s actually said anything to me to suggest it… it’s funny how our brains work sometimes… To help with my mental health I’ve recently taken up crochet as a new hobby and actually treating it like therapy (without the talking part 😆) but I’ve got to the point where I’ve been hyper focusing on this and have put my digital design business on the back burner (which actually started off as a hobby, but now pays me the same as my full time job!) I’ve bought so much yarn over the last few months, but I feel this is giving me a little of dopamine when I buy it 🤗 My husband gave up Facebook a year or so ago because it was just rubbish, but I can’t seem to do this because I use it for my hobbies and business 🙈 there’s no escape for me! 😆 This time of year alot of people go through seasonal associated depression (SAD) which you touched on when you mentioned this time of year being cold and gloomy…

Don't forget excess consumption and consumerism. I'm tired of feeling like I have to have a new outfit or a new piece or purse or this or that constantly. As an American, wages are not increasing, and shrinkflation is a thing. I just can't deal anymore. How is everyone buying new clothes all the time, make up, hair done, nails did, going out, memberships etc etc

My mother being the biggest one of them 😂. It's like, enough is enough, let me fucking live and be happy in my existence!!! lol I laugh but it is really bad how people can be like that. Thinking about it, all good things come to those who wait- right? Well social media doesn’t make you wait therefore it’s not a good thing. I’ve had to limit the amount of time I spend on social media. I find it very overwhelming and I can’t even bare to watch the news- it’s so depressing! Also the people who post how productive they are may get lots of shit done and that’s great for them, I applaud them but I guarantee they’re not thriving in another area of their life because nobody- nobody can keep all their plates spinning 100% of the time xx

One of the most amazing things about SM is the fact that it brought me to you, Helen 😌✨ one of the ways I try to manage it is to pick my platforms more continuously. I haven’t been on insta or used Snapchat for over 8 years, and I’m fine “missing out”. I much prefer KZfaq. Highly recommend just leaving the platforms you don’t enjoy spending your time on, trust and believe … you won’t fucking miss it 😉

“People with the confidence of someone who hasn’t been punched in the face before” THAT’S IT. That’s what I haven’t been able to put into words about it! I only go on Facebook now because my PT has the group on there to post information and updates for us, and I avoid the home feed. Facebook has turned into Times Square honestly; ads, ads, sponsored posts and delusional people with nothing better to do or with *awful* opinions shouting over each other on who’s the most correct. It’s horrendous, and I don’t like that videos auto play because sometimes I get ones I really don’t want to see that make me feel uncomfortable. The comparison trap is the worst. Especially on Instagram with gorgeous houses and people faking simpler lives too. I’ve seen videos of people using hotel rooms and saying ‘don’t be fooled, some people will tell you this is their home’ and that really did make me realise we just don’t know what’s going on on the other side of the camera, we just accept it so often. There’s some wonderful things online I’ve found and people I’ve found, but honestly so many comments sections just give me a bitter taste and ruin good things sometimes.

I watch KZfaq and find myself comparing still.. I watch things that make me feel not good enough and I have to reign myself in and change what I consume - watching you gives me life, gives me hope!!! Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to look like you and be you… but I adore you so I enjoy watching you, so you don’t affect my mental health you elevate it! Hope that makes sense. Love you melon xxxxx❤ 🍉

I think the downside of the mental health therapy trends on social media is it encourages a very hyperinidividual perspective. Get your rest can be self isolating. Protect your peace can become zero engagement with social and political pieces. The world is so hard and on fire right now because we are more and more viewed as a commodity versus human beings. My diagnoses are around how functional I am for society. True support and healing comes in community. I don't think we're sick, I think the world systems are.

I have to see her tomorrow and tbh I don't know what to say if she asks why I've deleted her. Any advice would be great lol. I think what is important is that we are allowed to feel like shit. But don't let it consume us. Have our moods but then pick ourselves up and get into a better mind frame. ❤xx
